Two Weeks

Hey everyone! Sorry to leave you hanging like that. Especially in light of the fact that the last post is really in no way indicative of how we’re all getting along. Meli is really – and I say this completely objectively – the perfect baby girl. She rarely fusses, nurses like a champ, poops like an elephant (who subsists mainly on grey poupon. By the way, it’s no coincidence that grey poupon has POO in the word!) And most importantly, she sleeps very well. I get a good three hours at a stretch every night between feedings.

She had her first drs appt yesterday and she’s gained back to her birth weight and grown an inch. Of course, she probably had that inch at the hospital – G says they measured her with her legs in the air after she was born.

She’s been to the mall (she’s a Jersey girl – natch!), car shopping and spent much quality time with her adoring cousins. Aunts, uncles, grandparents – they’ve all been through to pay their respects to our little princess and this week Daddy’s home with us! I hope to get back to regular-ish blogging next week when it’s just the two of us (can you spell T-E-R-R-I-F-I-E-D?)

Here’s some proof that we’re doing well!

I’ve even done some knitting! I was right! The Rambling Rows blanket is the PERFECT newborn project. I can pick it up and put it down without any issues and I’ve already finished one square and am halfway through another since her birthday. I’m trying out slings this week so if all goes well, there will be more blogging and more knitting in my very near future.

Thanks again for all your lovely well wishes for our baby girl and our family. They mean so much to us! I’m hoping to have our birth story up soon – it’s so important to me to get it all down and really everything went off without a hitch. While it wasn’t exactly what we planned for – it couldn’t have gone better.

See you soon!!

L, C & M

  31. Gorgeous! I love that little mouth.

  32. What a beauty. She already has a lot of character in her face. Look at those rosy cheeks. So nice you have help in these early weeks. Enjoy the time.

  33. She’s just BEAUTIFUL.

  34. Awww 🙂 Such a sweet baby!

  35. Glad to hear things are going so well! I was terrified, too, but the thing about babies is that while they require immediate gratification of their needs, they don’t have very many of them, so everything gets very simple. As you’ve no doubt discovered already.
The thing that helped me the most was having a seat/crib/swing/bassinet/some kind of baby container in every room, so that I could easily put the baby down for a few seconds when I needed to.

  36. Oh, she’s a beautiful girl! (Makes me want one!)

  37. Well, you clearly have this baby lark down pat! She is absolutely adorable, Cara. Congratulations again, and so so glad to hear you are enjoying your beautiful new family.

  38. I’ve been checking every few hours for more pics-knowing you had absolutely NOTHING else to do but blog! Yes, get the story down! Meli will want to hear the whole thing-every detail-on her birthday, when she is older. My children want me to go through their whole “birthday” every year! She’s a darling!

  39. How beautiful she is! It’s so wonderful that everything has gone well for you!

  40. Bright-eyed girl! So wonderful to see her!

  43. She’s beautiful, Cara! What a treat to see your beautiful photos of Meli.

  44. Hello, baby.

  45. She’s absolutely beautiful (but you already knew that)! I’m glad things are going well.

  46. Good at nursing, pooping & sleeping?! What more could a Mamma ask for? I bet you can hardly pry the baby & camera out of your hands. You’ve got great subjects. Congrats on everything!

  47. She is absolutely precious! You are probably so in love with her. Can’t wait to hear your birth story as I’ve wondered how you are doing and healing!

  48. I was just thinking about you and Meli this afternoon, as I just got Larissa’s Knitalong book in the mail and you’re mentioned a number of times.
That is one beautiful baby but that third picture, of Meli in her purple hoodie, has to be one of my all time favorites. What a wonderful shot.

  49. She is gorgeous! I am de-lurking to wish you congratulations and all the best! I have so enjoyed reading your story… thank you for sharing!

  50. Thanks for the smile! Your Meli is precious!!

  51. aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!

  52. She is just lovely! The zombie feeling lasted 6wks for us – but time has a way of making you forget about it later on. Enjoy every moment – it goes fast.

  53. my god! what a cutie! you must be mesmerized by her eyes. just gorgeous. can’t wait to hear more!

  54. She is so precious. So glad to hear all is well with your family.

  55. It is so great to hear from you and your sweet family. Princess M is just beautiful..Enjoy her!

  56. Lisa Gossett says

What a beautiful baby girl! I’m glad to hear you all are doing fine. My husband was with me for the first 2 months after our daughter was born. I understand being scared, but you will do GREAT!

  57. What a gorgeous little girl!
On the subject of measurement — I maintain we didn’t get an accurate picture of Lucy’s height until she was two months old, because she absolutely refused to stretch her legs out for any reason so help her GOD until then. The docs would lay her out on their little measuring tape gizmo and try to keep her head at the top, then pull her legs out straight…yeah, it didn’t happen.

  58. She’s just perfect, Cara. I remember the first few days alone….it was kind of scary but still so precious. How awesome it must be to finally be able to photograph your little one. She’s beautiful.

  59. Oh goodness, look at how perfect she is! And purple is definitely her color. But of course since she’s royalty it should be. 🙂

  60. PICAdrienne says

Time has a way of escaping. Get used to that, it only gets worse. She is truly beautiful, enjoy every moment. All too soon she will be be 14 and have an attitude that just will not quit. (The attitude does quit, sometimes it just takes a bit longer than with others.)

  61. Beautiful pictures!! What a cutie. Happy to hear all is well with your family! 🙂

  62. What a beautiful child! Her eyes are amazing. And I think she’s already looking up at her dad in that way that only fathers & daughters relate. So beautiful. Congratulations and thanks for the pictures. Oh, and who is L (you signed the post L, C & M)? I thought his name was Georgie!

  63. Michele In Maine says

Cutie patootie! Glad all functions are going in the right direction.

  64. What a cute little peanut! I love the purple hoodie shot!

  65. moby wrap for teh win!
there is nothing better then a moby wrap or ring sling. SRYSLY!!!

  66. So glad to hear everything’s going well–for everyone! She is truly, truly precious. Thanks for offering us a quick glimpse!

  67. Congrats again, Cara! She is truly beautiful.

  68. What a cutie! And so much hair… her womb twin is jealous of all that hair (although Raley likes the red that she’s got, even though there’s not much of it).
She still must be stealing Raley’s poo, as we’re lucky to get one every third day or so.
And I’m glad to hear that she’s taking it easy on her mommy and daddy – we need a break now and then, and there’s nothing like 3 hours of sleep to do it! (Raley has started cooperating in that department too – hooray!)
    Glad you liked the presents!
Our best to the three of you, and we got to get together soon! 🙂

  69. She is magnificent. What a beautiful, perfect, gorgeous girl! That photo of her and her daddy made me choke up. Well done, Cara. She’s amazing.

  70. Those are all great photos, but that third one is my favorite. You guys did good!

  71. She looks like a little doll!
I’m sure you’ll do fine alone with her. There may be rough spots (goodness knows I had a few with mine), but your love will get you through 🙂

  72. She is a beautiful baby!!

  73. The pictures are so beautiful! Congrats 🙂

  74. Purple is clearly her color! She just glows in that picture.
It was delightful to hear from you.

  75. She has the most adorable face! I’m happy for you with the sleeping thing my boys were good sleepers like that too and it makes such a difference.
The sling thing did very well for me with Avery. Ian preferred his bouncy seat where he could watch everything going on.

  76. She is just too precious – I love her little hands 🙂

  77. How precious!

  78. She is darling! What a sweet, sweet face. Glad you are all doing well. Congrats!

  79. She’s so beautiful!! and such bright eyes…

  80. She is just the most perfect baby I have seen in at least 16.5 years. Truly, gorgeous. I can’t wait to see her in person, hopefully soon. Mwah!

  81. congratulations, what a cute baby girl! glad things are going well and you are enjoying being a new mom 🙂

  82. She is so adorable! Don’t worry it won’t be that bad when you’re all alone next week. It really gives you a chance to sit back and enjoy it all on your own 🙂

  83. Yeah! She’s utterly gorgeous and so much good news! It IS a little terrifying to think you will be home alone, but I found that once it was just me and the kid, we settled into our own routine without too much fuss. You’ll do great! Best piece of advice: keep your expectations low!

  84. She is an absolutely stunning baby!!!

  85. You and G make really cute babies! 🙂

  86. What a sweetie pie! So happy for you all!

  92. you must be completely smitten! I’m speechless! And achingly nostalgic for those sweet sweet babies of mine…you lucky lucky girl!

  93. That’s a dang cute baby!
    I’m glad you’re all doing well. 😀

  94. She is beautiful! I really think she looks like your nieces and nephews (from the photos that you have posted) but now I’m not sure having seen the mister’s pic. Get some sleep!

  95. So good to hear from you!!! Sounds like you are enjoying your babymoon, I’m so glad!!! She is beautiful, not that I’m surprised 🙂 Congrats again Mama!

  99. Definitely a successful project!!

  100. She is just beautiful!!!!

  101. Those eyes!
    Those cheeks!
    Those rosebud lips!
    Wow.
(I am dying to know [oops, I typed dyeing, too much yarn talk lately] if the semi-Saartje’s actually do fit Meli. I’m sure her little feet are just as adorable as the rest of her.)

  102. Is it just that you are that talented a photographer, or is Meli *that* beautiful!?! Wow. Y’all do some great work!

  103. Good to hear you’re doing well.

  104. Oh that face cries out to be kissed! I especially love the one of her in the purple hoodie. So expressive and adorable.

  105. Oh my! It’s striking how much she looks like you!! 🙂

  106. Oh Please, Oh Please, Oh Please be ever so careful when you take her out! Yes, she does have some of your immunity d/t nursing but….there are things like measles and chicken pox and pertussis out there. Keep her safe until you get her immunized. And for heaven’s sake don’t let anyone touch her without a good hand washing. God Bless, Carol

  107. Aw, she is absolutely beautiful.

  108. She is just beautiful, Cara.

  109. Thank you for the beautiful photos of your little princess. When I was reading your previous blog entry a couple of weeks ago, Ian saw the photo you had of her in that entry and said “Awwwwwwww! What a cute little baby!” Dude, he is totally not into babies, so clearly yours is exceptional to get such a response out of him.

  110. she is precious, C!

  111. she is beautiful. Glad to hear its all going well.
I have a sling, and its okay, but what we really love in our house is the Mei Tai. I love my freehand: http://www.freehandbaby.com its beautiful and extremely comfortable. I wore my first until she was 18 months old. Now we have 2, and my husband and I both wear one.

  112. Congratulations! She is beautiful. All the best.

  113. With a baby that beautiful, I would have never blogged again. I’d be so busy staring at her, nothing else would matter.

  114. She’s absolutely perfect! So happy for you and yours.

  115. Hi Cara,
Meli is so sweet. Glad to hear all is going well.
    Rosane.

  119. I am SO happy for you!!

  120. Deborah Bourque says

I am so happy for you…sounds like all is well! Nature is perfect in that way and moms and babies tend to work things out. I remember the fear and I remember getting over it. You will too! Trust your instincts! Baby is beautiful! Don’t worry about your blog readers…they know you have more important priorities!

  121. Glad you are all doing well! Meli is just beautiful. Those first weeks are so full…no wonder you had no blogging time!

  122. My goodness she’s cute. Sounds like you’re all settling in. Nice!

  126. OH! Her eyes!!! Cara, she’s so pretty! Glad all is well.

  127. She is truly beautiful, and I love the picture of her with George. I know it’s terrifying, but really, you’ll be fine. It sounds like she’s a perfect baby so you’ve got a leg up!

  128. She must be insanely good – you sound almost perky, which is highly unusual in the first month. I won’t begrudge you this ease, though – you definitely earned it with your pregnancy from hell! 🙂

  129. She’s such a pretty girl. I’m so happy to hear that she is doing well and you are getting rest (and knitting time!). Congratulations again.

  130. OK— she’s so beautiful I cried… couldn;t help it- I’m a sap- keep up the good work mom- you’re doing great!

  131. What a beautiful baby! I must see if I can capture a likeness in watercolor… I’m supposed to paint “something soft.” And I’d forgotten how right you are about Grey Poupon! You’ll be fine next week… she’s got waking, sleeping and mustard working… all you need to do is hold, nurse and nap. Everything else can wait. Hugs for you!

    What a beautiful little girl…
Glad everything went fine – mine is 15 now and when I look at yours – I just see her.
I also had the perfect baby for me: she had good long night (6 hrs straight)at a month and a half.
Breastfed and all – she was calm and everything went smoothly..
Congrats again – you will love it. !

  142. She’s so beautiful! Congratulations again! May the happy baby nature continue forever!

  143. My, you are a lucky, lucky person. Not only is she beautiful, but she sleeps?
Mine slept in either 20 minute or 45 minute increments only for MONTHS. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Of course I love the little guy to pieces, but man, it was SO hard.
Glad you are doing so well (even if I am envious!)
(Personally I thought a fleece pouch was a godsend. The ring slings never worked for me.)
She is so beautiful, really. Wonderful eyes!

  144. Look at ze baby!!!! CUTE BABY!!!!! Congrats on making such a wonder!

  145. Photo in the purple hoodie: a complete doll. You have a great family! Best of luck in the upcoming days!

  148. Hey, I’ve been away and missed this – congratulations! She’s a gorgeous girl.

  149. Oh she is so beautiful! Many, many congratulations on everything. As I am nowhere near baby land, I can only imagine how exciting it must be to have this opportunity to watch a person grow. The whole thing is wonderful.

  150. Meli is just beautiful! I came looking for a Saturday Sky….but I guess you are a tad busy!!

  151. What a lucky little girl the precious Meli is! She has a very talented photographer for a Mommy! She will never, ever have stupid looking baby pictures! She will be the “Cover Girl” of all babies! Can we say “Supermodel” beautiful?
