I haven’t left my house in two days. That’s not really even close to a record for me, but yesterday I didn’t even venture to the lobby to get the mail. G was pissed when I remembered at midnight last night (incidentally, when he got home from work) and had to go back down to get it. Today, I might have to go out, even though it’s likely the hottest day of the heat wave, but I’ve run out of Mini-Wheats. I think the milk still has another day, but without Mini-Wheats, what’s the use?
You know, nothing says start another project like laying out all your unfinished projects and taking a picture of them all together so that’s exactly what I did.
Knee highs, in Sock Hop yarn, American Pie colorway. I love them with the intensity of a burning star exploding through the universe. The only thing is that I am increasingly worried that I won’t have enough yarn so I am weighing the remaining yarn after like every three rows. It’s a little bit crazy. I’m toying with the idea of emailing Teyani and asking if they have any undyed matching roving and spinning up some white stuff to use on the toes and the heels. Or trying to find a blue that sort of matches for the toes and heels.
I found this website yesterday that gives directions for making knee highs – you just have to fill in all your numbers, and Margene was gracious enough to walk me through the math. I don’t like math – especially knitty math. I would love to take a class on knitty math. I’ve already started the decreases on the sock and I’ve got 1 7/8 oz left. I was trying on the new sock with my just finished sock hop sock on my foot and I was trying to use 3/4 oz for the “new” part up my leg and have 2 oz left for the rest of the sock – the part that matches the old sock. But I’ve got a ton more stitches on the new sock, although no ribbing and I suspect ribbing takes up more yarn than straight stockinette, but I’m still worried. As I said, I love these socks more than anything and I know my heart is a fickle bitch, but that’s how it is.
And even though I’ve gotten like a third of the sock done (or god forbid LESS) I think they look super cute and dare I say sexy on my leg. I can just tell they are going to look damn fine when they are finished and I’m going to wear them around my house with G’s old work shirt on and I will be cute and fine and SEXY. Like ten years younger sexy.
And then maybe I will get back to losing some weight and do stuff around the house more and clean and cook and be ambitious about finding new photography work and make some money and clear my head of obsessive thoughts and be all zen about my life and then one morning I will wake up and slip on my fanfuckingtastic socks and I will suddenly have the courage to unfreeze those totsicles and get pregnant and have the perfect life.
God I hope I don’t run out of yarn. There’s a lot riding on these socks.
You’re putting a lot of pressure on those poor socks. But thanks for the link to the knee socks site. Dale has been bugging me for knee socks for reenacting.

Those really are cute, Cara. I really like the idea of matching some blue yarn (I’d go for darker blue — is that a denim blue in that colorway?) for the heels and toes — REALLY like it. ; ) Or even some alternating stripey thing on the heels and toes, or stripes on the soles, too. (Pardon my riff — and a big ol’ hug your way.)
Hm. Two days, huh? I suppose a bit of cabin fever is better than going out in the heat. I love your knee-highs…they will work their magic on your entire life for sure…knit on, friend!

If you come up with a sock/yarn comination that gives the wearer a perfect life, you really have to write up the pattern. And of course it would be a free pattern, because, your life already being perfect, you wouldn’t need the money.
Is it okay if your magic knee socks fulfill all our wishes? I’ll second those of ann above, I’ve got all those problems myself. Then, my house will be clean, my children will stop playing World of Warcraft and become the geniuses they were meant to be, and money will flow into the bank. Right? Right? (feeling slightly hysterical)

you are absolutely fabulous Cara! – and yes, we definately have some white roving that could be spun up to use for the heels and toes….. or, perhaps you just need one more skein of the yarn???

I just want to reassure you that the heat wave will not go on forever. We had it for a couple weeks here in the midwest (Minneapolis), many days above 90, but this morning at 8:30 it was (gasp!) 65 degrees! Heavenly!
Now go knit those magic socks. The world is depending on you.
Dude. I’m thinking if those socks can do all that for you, I’m going to get some of that yarn and make me a bikini.
Alternatively, instead of white, you might spin some contrasting color… for instance Midnight Hour or Moondance that picks up one of the colors in American Pie.
Clearly those are going to be some incredibly mystical magickal socks…

Holy cow, that is a lot riding on the socks. I sure hope you manage to get them all cranked out without running out of anything. I agree with earlier posters who say the heels and toes should be darker (like blue, or maybe a purply color?) not lighter.
I, too, have fallen in love with this yarn, watching it knit up into your creations.

Isn’t it funny how certain things that happen in your life can make you feel like you can conquer the world? And it doesn’t have to be a big thing. I just found out I don’t have to take a particular course before I start my new job, and it just made my day. I feel like I could run a mile, ever in 100 degree heat!

thats why I didnt go for knee socks, because I was too scared to run out of yarn and then I would cry and cry because my perfect socks would be incomplete and a little bit of a failure.

Oh, I just got my 2 skeins of American Pie….and have 2 of Great Balls of Fire on b/o. My first Sock Hop yarns! I had actually bought the American Pie for Yarnaboard II, but now that I see it….it’s mine, MINE I tell you!!!
Anyway….that’s a lot of pressure to put on a pair of socks. But they are gonna be so CUTE! Keep going!
