Metamorphosis

Back in the day, when Georgie and I first moved in together, oh some sixteen years ago, PBS was reshowing the absolutely fabulous I, Claudius. We would watch it all the time. One of our favorite parts is when John Rhys-Davies comes out and says that John Hurt, as Caligula, has undergone a META-MOR-PHO-SIS. You have to hear G say it to really appreciate it.

There’s a bit of metamorphosis going on in my life and I can imagine that while you’re snuggled up in that cocoon waiting to become a butterfly you feel like everything is changing but nothing is changing. You want things to be different, but they really aren’t. And then they are.

I want to reassure you that all the things I can’t talk about are good things. Potentially very good things. No one is sick. Everyone is good. Georgie and I have never been better. My business has never been better. (In fact, I should be working not blogging.) A tremendous weight has been lifted from me, and honestly, I feel like I could fly. If only my feet were wings.

What’s a girl to do when she wants to fly but can’t? She knits.

Saturday and Sunday I knit without stopping. At least it seemed like that the last four rows of Moth. It’s done. Off the needles. I was going to block it today, but life interrupted once again, so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Everything about this project has been fabulous: the needles, the yarn, and especially the pattern. I’m almost sorry to block it, because that means it’s over. Thank god my next shawl is only a week away!

Be back tomorrow with a new pair of Monkeys. See? The more things change, the more they stay the same. 😉

    Cara,
Glad things are going well. You have inspired me to try a shawl. I can’t wait to see Moth blocked I love the color of it. Still sending good happy thoughts your way

  2. I’m glad to hear things are going well. I love the texture of the shawl pre-blocked. In some ways, it’s too bad it has to be stretched and flattened. But it will probably be even prettier when it is.
Glad you’re back to knitting too.
    Take care,

  3. This is one that truly becomes spectacular when it’s blocked. Have fun!

  4. The suspense is killing me!! I have a few guesses, but of course won’t mention them here. I’m glad to hear all is well with you and G. I can’t wait to see beautiful pictures of the Moth once it’s blocked!

The shawl looks lovely, and I am sure it will be even more lovely blocked.
Now, are you in cahoots with JK Rowling to make this an extremely suspenseful month? Can you give a clue as to the order of the end of suspense, say, movie, your news, then last book?
Take care and may your news continue to be wonderful. My good vibes continue to go your way.

  6. What’s a girl to do when she wants to fly but can’t? She teases her readers with vague hints. 😉

  7. Beautiful shawl. You make me think I could do it too(although the monkeys are still pending). Keep up the positive and remember to find the beauty in everything around you.

  8. I just cast on my second shawl last night and I think that I am ready for something with more of a pattern. The “insect” shawls are gorgeous as the pattern is definitely there as well as the lace. Can’t wait to see it blocked!

  9. Anne is my hero, and it sounds like she’s yours too!

  10. I can’t get enough of that color!

  11. Glad your well! The shawl looks lovely, but really? I had to comment to let you know that I have a secret stash of I, Claudius. I can totally recite it. 🙂

  12. The Moth shaw is so pretty. It still amazes me that something so pretty can be so much more prettier when it is blocked.
I was going to suggest the Bee shawl, but after I clicked on the link, I should have known better.
Glad that things are going well.

  13. So pretty. I can’t wait to see it blocked!

  14. Monkeys before blocked lace–y’big tease!

  15. It is saying something about a pattern when it looks stunningly beautiful not-yet-blocked. Congratulations and condolences for this work of art being almost finished.
(Continuing to sit on edge of seat, awaiting news of spectacular proportions.)

  16. I, Claudius was a fantastic series. I really must get it out and watch it again. Derek Jacobi is an amazing actor.

  17. I really must move Moth up my list. I have never heard you sound more peaceful.

  18. Cara, you’re already a butterfly. I can’t imagine what the Metamorphosis is!
Your Moth is a beauty. Hope you get some time to block today.
Both Moth and Bee are way up there on my list.

  19. It must be good because I can feel your smile all the way up here in New Hampshire :-).
Your moth is looking so pretty!!

  20. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas and I can’t even relieve the tension by snooping in my mom’s closet for the presents.
And, you have monkey addiction on your hands as well. I made a pair and I’m itching to start the next ones.

  21. Wanda in Ar says

Glad life is going good. Can’t wait to see what the change is about.

  22. You “sound” so happy in your post. I can almost hear you hum as you type it out. I will keep sending the good vibes your way and maybe you will tell us soon what it is you’re so pleased about 🙂
I can’t wait to see the shawl blocked. It’s going to be amazing!

  23. So glad to see that things are good. The shawl is beautiful so far, I cannot wait to see it blocked!

  24. Look forward to blocking of the moth! Must be summer, all the insects are taking “wings”. First a moth, then a bee 😉

  25. Beautiful – I love the combination of that color with Anne’s moth pattern. I’m continuing to send some good vibes your way that all continues on in a positive way for you. 🙂

  26. Just gorgeous. Love the colour, looking forward to seeing Moth blocked out and draped over something artistic in the sunshine 😉

  27. I’m soo glad things are going great for you, even if you can’t talk about them yet…and Moth is sooo pretty unblocked that I can’t imagine how great it’s going to look once it’s been blocked!

  28. Nice moth! Can’t wait to see her all stretched out and feelin’ fine.
    Blessings!

  29. Whatever good it is going on in your life… that’s wonderful. Can’t wait to see your Moth Shawl after blocking. Also anxiously waiting for the Bee Shawl to become available.

  30. I loved the I, Claudius book but I could never get into the miniseries. However, I do love me some John Rhys-Davies.
Look, you have got to slow down. First I’m concerned that the smoke coming off your needles indicate impending flame and second, you’re making me look slow.
Just kidding. I can’t wait to see the shawl blocked.

  31. I am so happy that you are in such a good place right now. Oh, and I can’t help but make guesses to myself about what your fabulous “news” can be. I have an inkling, but don’t want to say in case I’m wrong, or in case I’m right!!!
Anyway, I can’t wait to see the moth shawl blocked. This is on my list of “must knits.”
    Take care of you!

  32. It is a strong blessing that comes from the self. You have knit yourself your own wings to take that flight.

  33. That shawl is gorgeous Cara! I’m so excited for good things to be happening to you!

  34. Moth is gorgeous. But it’s never really over, is it? Even after it’s blocked, you can still wrap it around your shoulders and remember what was going on in your life while you knit it.

  35. …and the taunting continues! 🙂 I can’t wait to see your Moth all blocked out.

  36. That is beautiful even before blocking!!!
