January One

Today I turn 51… I mean 39. But Wii Fit thinks I’m 51. (Apparently I suck at the whole balance test thing because my weight and BMI are within normal. I’m skinnier now than I was before I got pregnant. I think there should be some kind of dispensation for the kid under one….)

Today is my birthday and I’m getting old. My reality is that even though I’m more tired than I’ve ever been in my life, I feel young too. Maybe the youngest I’ve felt in a long time.

Age is a very strange bird.

I’ve read lots of things lately about how 2008 was a very up year and a very down year as well. Amazing highs and super lows and the thing of it is – it was possibly the best year of my life. The most fulfilling year. Certainly the hardest. And on this, the first day of the new year, I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

I’m hoping to post on a regular basis this January. It’s a slow month and I feel like I should be able to make the time to get back the blog. It’s important to me and there’s no better place to start than the new year. I’m going to kick things off tomorrow with a fabulous contest with some prizes you’ll only see here! Right now, though, I’m off to play Guitar Hero. I’m telling you, age be damned. I’m just a kid! (And my Wii might be one of the best presents EVER!)

A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS FROM ME AND MINE!
THANK YOU FOR READING JANUARY ONE!

  6. Happy Birthday, Cara.
Mine is at the end of the month. It’s a great month, as far as I’m concerned!

  7. Happy, happy birthday! Wii said I was much older than my years too. It’s all how you feel inside. Sometimes my shell reminds me of my true age but my spirit feels much younger.
Have a wonderful day and I look forward to more January One.
    Happy, healthy 2009.

  8. Happy birthday and new year Cara!

  9. Happy birthday (and from 54, 39 is young!) and happiest of New Years.

  10. Happy Birthday Cara!
I know 51 quite intimately and you are not there.
Have a great day with your lovely family and your wii.

  19. Happy happy birthday, Cara!

  20. One of the things I have particularly enjoyed this year, no fooling, is the glimpses I have gotten of how well you’ve been doing. It’s nice to see a good and likable person find balance and joy. Happy Birthday, may 2008 be only the beginning of the best of everything.

  21. Happy Birthday Cara! And may 2009 be even better than last year! 🙂

  22. Happy Birthday Cara (my fellow New Year’s Baby)!!

  23. Have a good birthday and I hope to see you posting more often! I love your blog and I love seeing your baby grow (too young for one of my own, but I still love babies!) and hopefully there’ll be some knitting in the new year!

  24. Happy Birthday and Happy New Year!

  25. Happy Birthday! I agree that the Wii would make a great present. My 11th month old and I agree, 2008 was hard, but it might have been the best year ever. Kids are such an exciting addition to any year. Wishing you a terrific 2009!

  27. Happy Birthday!
Age is relative…really what I mean is you’re only as old (or young) as you feel. My 74 yo mom is rather emphatic about the fact that she might look older, but she feels like she’s still about 20 years younger than those blasted numbers keep adding up to.

  28. Happy B-Day! ^_^ Happy New Year and dayum the Wii; you’re as young as you feel! ^_~

  29. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday…I love using Wii Fit…though admittedly more on the days when it thinks I’m 24 than on the days it says I’m 64 (I’m somehwere in between, though probably closer to 64 than 24)…one of my goals is to use Wii more and maybe move my sorry self out of doors even!!!

  33. Happy Birthday!!

  34. Happy birthday, Cara!!! I hope you have a great day and happy new year!

  35. Happy birthday! I turn 45 tomorrow (Jan 2).

  39. Happy Birthday and Happy New Year, Cara! I so enjoy your blog and thank you for sharing 😀
As to the Wii, we have not set ours up yet and I am now terrified that my almost 48 will read closer to 84! lol

  58. What a year! Happy Birthday, chica!

  59. happy birthday!!!
51 hasn’t been bad for me so far. as i recall, 39 was not as good. for me at least. daughter #1 arrived at 25 and #2 at 27. so i was in adolescent/pre-adolescent hell at 39. everything is relative.
meli is lovely and you shouldn’t care what Wii might say.

  60. Happy birthday! I love the idea of a Wii Fit dispensation, too. We got Guitar Hero this Christmas – it’s a big hit already.
    Hope your 2009 is amazing!

  61. Happy birthday, Cara! I wish you and your family all the best in the coming year.

  62. Happy Birthday, you rock! Wishing you a great year ahead!!!!

  63. Happy Birthday! We just got a Wii Fit and I’ve spent the last half hour ski jumping and hula hooping. Hysterical, ain’t it? All the best to you in the new year.

  64. Happy Birthday, Cara! I’m glad you’ll be posting more. I have enjoyed your blog for several years. Thanks for sharing your life with us here, especially the wonderful story of Meli. Also, I love your knitting and photography! Happy New Year, too — to all of us!

  65. Happy Birthday! Our gift to ourselves this year was a Wii, I love it!

  66. Happy birthday! Looking forward to hearing more from you in January. I was just thinking about you today as I used some Soak that you sent as part of a bloggy prize. I’m so happy to hear that 2008 was a good year for you!

I hope you got LOTS and LOTS of birthday kisses from Meli today!
    XOXO from me!

  72. Happy, happy birthday!

  73. Happy Birthday, Cara! Have fun with that Wii, they are the best. Do not worry about the Wii Fit Age when you try it out for the first time. It is a different experience, and can be a bit awkward at first. It is interesting the way it awakens awareness of your body, balance, the way you move, and the way you do something as simple as stand. Most of all, enjoy this great gift, and the gift of the new year.

  74. Happy birthday and happy new year!

Best wishes for a wonderful 2009

Happy Birthday! Why is it that hard things are sometimes so fulfilling…but sometimes just really hard? Or maybe it is that they tend to feel fulfilling in retrospect, because you got through it all without drowning.

  87. Happy Belated Birthday! Don’t fret; age is just a number. Go see THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON to see what I mean.

  88. Happy Birthday from Gainesville, FL Cara. A day late but bringing you only the best wishes for a great new year.

Hey, I’m 39, too – and will be again on the 20th. My Mom tells the grandkids that she’s 39, but I told her that’s my number now so she has to go up to at least 45!
    Hope your birthday was wonderful!
Hugs to you and Miss Meli, too!

Happy Birthday. Know that they really do just keep getting better and easier to deal with. And that confusion about your age and how you think/feel can get wider. I’m 56. Look about 40. Feel about 35. Confused, yes. Happy, definitely.

  105. I am glad I am not the only new mommy in her 30s who is tired. So, so tired. 🙂
