HARK! The Herald Angel Sings!

This is how much yarn I had left after weaving in all the ends:

This is a taste of what the shawl looks like blocked:

This is what you get to start when the TSA workers leave your knitting alone (even though the woman should’ve paid me after the body search. Does she think I give that shit away?):

And this is what mother nature does when she is gloriously happy with the way my knitting is progressing:

It’s HOT. But in that dry, no humidity, are they fucking kidding me with that shit burn your skin off kind of heat. Yesterday we found a salt water pool which is like swimming in a silk cocoon filled with the salt of a million tears and despite the heat I am very happy. It will take a while for a full Seraphim photo spread and there are no pre-blocked pictures, BUT I’m planning on two very special blog photographers dueling it out at a photoshoot on Friday. Guaranteed to knock your just started Koigu knee highs off your feet.

If anyone of you are half as good as I am then you are FUCKING FANTASTIC! My first handspun handknit is better than I ever could’ve hoped. Sniff. Sniff. I’m so happy….

PS – The pictures in this post are untouched. I say that because it kind of gives me the heebie jeebies to post untouched photographs. I believe that every single photograph I take SHOULD be touched in some way – Photoshop is my darkroom. You develop film, right? You also develop digital film. This is my belief. So forgive the photographs. I’m not working with all my tools right now.

PPS – And my site STILL looks like crap in IE and Safari. Fuckers.

Comments

  1. What colorway is the sock? Love it!
Can’t wait for finished Seraphim photos!

  2. Despite unretouching…the photos are fabulous. Glad you checked in!

  3. but the site looks great in Firefox! Nil bastardi carborundum!

  4. Oh, untouched photos. So you’re like the rest of us right now? 😉
Love the seraphim, congrats on finishing a project with your very own yarn.

  5. I don’t know what I would do without Photoshop, I love it so!

  6. Hmm…in Netscape the only thing I see different is the lovely gray line framing the pictures. While I love the gray line, if that’s all that’s broken between IE and Netscape I wouldn’t worry at all. 🙂

  7. Oh yay! So glad you had enough yarn … and the shawl looks lovely. I think I have that sock colorway, is that Koigu?

  8. Wow – looking forward to seeing the shawl in toto! Did you try floating in the salt pool? I sink like a stone in fresh water, but being in salt water is like being weightless. Well, almost. 😉

  9. Stupid TSA workers – geeze. Although at least you got to keep your knitting. The shawl is fabulous even if you’re teasing us. Have a great time with the heat and the water – two things that really do seem to go together.

  10. I’m so proud of you… you and your yarn that you made by hand. Congratulations, Cara. Looking forward to seeing the full gloriousness.

  11. Oh Cara, I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to you about the IE problem! I had a bit of an emergency trip to Philly and if you’ve been reading my blog, you know that just about everything that did not involve, getting.to.philly.as.soon.as.possible, was put on the back burner.
I’ll email you what Richard said about it (again, so sorry I didn’t drop you a line!)

  12. Seraphim is breathtaking! The color is gorgeous. Can’t wait to see the whole thing.

  13. The photos are beautiful, even in IE, so fear not! Seraphim is wonderful.

  14. I think everyone should just use Firefox, anyway. This’ll learn ’em. Explorer in particular, is just annoying to me. I love your untouched photos, and although I enjoy playing with photoshop as well, nothing pleases me more than knowing I don’t need to. These ar just lovely au natural.
I can’t wait to duke it out with MJ. She’s tiny, but pretty tough. You might want to bet against me. 🙂

  15. Does this win for the post with the most FUCKs in it? That alone just made me giggle….

  16. hhhmmm, maybe after we’re done with the gallery we should move on to fixing your templates/css? 🙂

  17. SQUEE!!! I can’t wait to see it! And Dueling blog photographers? that sounds like it can only end in really ass kicking photos 🙂

  18. I completely agree on the photoshop issue, although I still think these photos are lovely as is!

  19. Hurry home….we want photos…we want photos…

  20. Congrats on finishing your first handspun shawl, it looks lovely!

  21. I had a similar experience with the leftovers after I finished a scarf which was my first knitting of my own handknit yarn. It felt so much better to have that project complete than any of the others I’ve done! I’ll have to get back into spinning some more…

  22. beautiful cara! simply beautiful!!! i am so happy for you! 🙂 can’t wait to see the full thing.

  23. Seraphim is gorgeous and heavenly. The perfect yarn for the pattern name, and now you’ve really inspired me. Soon as my drop spindle gets here, I am teaching myself how to spin. And you all can laugh when you see how pathetic my attempts are at Rhinebeck. 🙂

  24. What a contagious high you are on! Good for you.

  25. There is an alien in that picture… oh no wait, my screen is dirty.

  26. margaret in manhattan says

just gorgeous – hmmm … may have to reconsider that pattern for my new lace jones.

  27. i did not notice anything was wrong with the blog because i’m so enamored with the shawl and sock pictures!

  28. The sock looks FUCKING AWESOME!!! I love love love the colorway….. what is it, by the way!
gorgeous shawl as well!!! you rock!

  29. I just switched to Opera — all looks fine here. I just checked it in IE 7.0 and it looks fine to me as well. Better even, because the text in your post is big enough to read easily (it’s a little small in Opera, who knows why).
I can’t wait to see the full photospread on Seraphim. The yarn, the color, the knitting — all gorgeous.

  30. Firefox looks great. The pattern is amazing. Just stunning.

  31. Take any photo of mine and Photoshop it all your fiddly perfectionistic little heart desires, and you couldn’t make it hold a candle to your virgin ones.
‘s OK, I like you anyway. Can I pet your shawl?

  32. Whew! That was close.
Pretty sock. But EW about the search!

  33. I blogged about the Knit-Out and briefly meeting you in New York:

(Scroll to about half-way down the post.)

  34. i think i just fell madly in love with your new sock. what colourway is that?? it looks awesome with the solid green.

  35. Oh, my – I *want* that colorway! Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff. Drooool.

  36. your handspun shawl looks fab! can’t wait to see the whole thing

  37. wow that lace blocks out really nicely…and may I say that is some mighty fine looking yarn!

  38. WOW! I love that rainbow sock.

  39. Bee-yoo-tee-ful, Cara! Fantastic job!
And your site looks great in Firefox. =)

  40. Hey there Cara! You’re shawl is just beautiful! Congrats.

  41. Love the colorway on that sock! Where can I get some of that yarn – – I definitely need it! I need the details of the yarn used on this sock, love the color combination!! Can’t wait for details and finished sock – – way to go!!

  42. The taste of the shawl is already enough to knock my socks of. It’s beautiful!

  43. oooooohhhhh
    magical! 🙂
don’t let your skin burn off! hehehehe

  44. oy – the shawl looks wonderful, and I would have been freaking out on the last few stitches binding off if that’s the yarn left over 🙂
as for the photos, I am also a digital “film developer” 😀 my new favorite toy is this software from http://hdrsoft.com
wicked wonderful for high contrast photos where taking multiple exposures help greatly!

  45. I think the perfection of your Seraphim (execution, yarn and yardage) atones for your sins and for those of everyone within a ten mile radius of you. Outstanding!

  46. Great seraphim! The sock is gorgeous, too.

  47. Wow, your Seraphim looks FANTASTIC! I can’t wait to see the full shot — the variations in color are just gorgeous.

  48. It’s gorgeous Cara! (At least what you’ve shown us so far! Looking forward to the full photo spread!
I’m jealous of that sunny warm weather, it’s raining in NJ today.

  49. Thank you for your comment about Photoshop. I feel the same way, although I never articulated it so well. I’ve seen some sites where they announce that all pictures are unaltered and I don’t know if they’re bragging or apologizing.

  50. Man, that is really cutting it close on yarn.
And your site looks OK in Safari and Firefox on my computer. Who the hell cares about IE? (Can you tell I’m a new Mac convert?)

  51. I saw you mentioned in the Heifer International e-mail newsletter! Congrats and thanks for all the great work you did for one of my favorite charities. I’ve just discovered another great one – Kiva.org. I’ve got a request on my blog to celebrate my birthday. I’ll never be able to do what you did for Heifer, but if I can do just a little I would be really happy.

  52. I just adore the sock. Please let me know what Colorway it is. I will have to go out and hunt it down. Thanks so much, Miss Amy

  53. ye gods is that sock gorgous–I’m getting hot flashes from jealousy…

  54. That little sneak peek of the shawl is beautiful. Can’t wait to see the whole thing!

  55. Seraphim looks beautiful so far! I’m glad you averted your crisis!!! How’ve you been, girlie?
