Time, Time, Time…

See what’s become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities

I picked the yarn for my next pair of monkey socks. Always good to think ahead.

The yarn is STR Dutch Canyon (Lightweight – I only knit socks with Lightweight so it’s safe to assume that any STR yarn I’m making a sock out of is Lightweight.) I tried to use this yarn once before – as a Pomotomus sock, but alas, I didn’t like it. I think it’s MUCH better suited to Monkey. I knew this yarn was destined to be a Cookie A pattern!

Speaking of Monkey socks, The RachFace seems to have a bit of knitocd going on herself: she’s got washclothes or bibs and monkey socks as far as I can tell, but who knows what other obsessions are going on over there. Although, as far as obsessions go, six pairs of monkey socks is kind of lame. I’m just saying cough10jaywalkerpairscough, you could be a bit more obsessed. But thank you for raising the bar for me. 😉 But mostly – thank you for your modifications! Check out all of rach’s Monkey Mods – some very cool socks.

In other news, I have a nice big red zit on my cheek. I’m prone to breakouts, but mostly on my chin and lately things haven’t been too bad. So to break out on my cheek – you know – right in the middle of my freaking face – isn’t the most attractive. I’m dealing with it as only a seventeen yr old can.

Did I mention that Friday is my high school reunion? Did I mention I’m GOING?

Yeah. That zit just got A WHOLE HELLUVA LOT BIGGER!

I’m sort of iffy on the whole reunion thing. I was talking to Ann today and I said that 99% of the people attending I haven’t spoken to in 20 years. She said, that’s the point of a reunion. Duh. The zit is eating my brain. But still – the reunion website lists all the people attending and I can’t help but click over there a half a dozen times a day and think – oh. I don’t want to see her again. And they all keep popping up in my dreams. I have to say though – I’m pretty damn happy with my life and where I’m at in it and who I have in it and it’s nice to go to a reunion and be confident. Although I do have a huge zit. Here’s what I looked like in high school:

No, I don’t have a skin condition – that’s scanner rot. And here’s a funny picture for the family Annie! My senior prom dress!

Even then I couldn’t keep the boobs up! And no, I didn’t go to my prom with Conan O’Brien. I have no idea what happened to my date – he joined the Air Force soon after high school. I hope he’s safe.

Now go pray for my zit to go away.

Comments

  1. was the theme “One Night in Paris”?

  2. or how about “Nights in White Satin”?

  3. or maybe, “Hey Look Up Here”!

  4. Jo-Anne says

If it’s as much fun as having dinner with an old boyfriend you haven’t seen in 20 years – you’ll have a fantastic time!! (I had fun at my 25th high school reunion too)

  5. Flouncy!!

  6. You know, you could always go to a dermatologist and have your zit injected with hydrocortisone. It’ll go away in a snap.
Have fun at the reunion! 🙂

  7. Meg McG says

Ibuprofen will reduce the redness and swelling of the zit. Spot Remover (salicylic acid) from Origins will dry it out.
Your senior photo was quite nice!

  8. Ooh, I’m going to my 20th high school reunion next month too. I am both excited and a bit nauseated at the thought, but at least one of my best high school friends will be there, so that’s something!
Hey, if the zit doesn’t go away just tell everybody you did it for the nostalgia effect…

  9. Ack! Mine is in August and I’m still on the fence. I want a full report! You know, they’re wearing dresses just like that this year. Poofy taffeta is back in style.

  10. Things could be worse…you could be going to your 40th reunion.

  11. Oh crap. As someone with bad skin, I sympathize completely. Just don’t do what I do and try to tilt that side of your face away from whoever you’re talking to. You end up looking like you’re completely bonkers and/or think your conversation partner smells bad.

  12. awe you look really cute in your HS pics!

  13. In the photo with your prom date you look like Izzy from Greys Anatomy…have fun at the reunion!

  14. At least you have boobs. Love the polka dot detail on your dress, Cara! 🙂
My derma says it’s time to change the sheets when zits pop up on the chin. Egad.

  15. After the ten year reunion and my husband reacting “badly” when meeting my high school boyfriend (it should have ended with “Honey, I married you” but it didn’t), I will probably fly solo if I go at all.
Way to totally rock the late ’80s in those pictures! I should get my high school graduation/prom pictures out this summer. On second thought, no.

  16. I went to my 20th last year and had the best time! It was quite fun reconnecting with people and seeing who we all turned into.
The zit will not matter a bit. Although I would look into the dermatologist recommendation from Amy.

  18. oops.

  19. I break out when I’m dehydrated, and from what reading I’ve done re: nutrition, that’s a pretty common bodily reaction. So drink so much water you think you’re going to float away, keep your hands off it, and if it’s still there a day or two before the reunion, use Neutrogena blemish control foundation and BAM it’ll be gone (or at least really well-covered).

  20. I think your prom dress is cute!
I have found, from personal experience, that globbing Neosporin ointment on the zit (especially at night, whilst sleeping) will get rid of it in 2 or 3 days tops.

  21. The yarn you chose for your next pair of monkey socks looks perfect.. can’t wait to see the FO!
Sigh. I also have my 20 year reunion this year, though mine is in August. I plan on going and will try not to fret about it until the week of, when there’s no turning back! LOL! I just pray I don’t digress into the insecure, dorky girl I was back then…. Just my luck.. I’ll also get an unfriendly zit that week too!
I’ll post my yearbook pic sometime in the near future too! Mine is hilarious! I’m holding up my collar! Yeah.. my collar. As if it wasn’t STANDING fine on its own! LMAO!
Go.. Origins coverstick works great.. enjoy yourself.. have fun.. mingle.. take pics or not.. bring some knitting in case all else fails!! bring back the details!

  22. My 20th college reunion is in two weeks and I’m NOT going. I have two really great friends from college and I see them regularly and that’s enough, thankyouverymuch. I hope your reunion is a blast and I hope the zit disappears in time. 🙂

  23. Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment: it’s in a little silver tube, the main ingredient is salicylic acid, and I swear by the stuff monthly, when my hormones reduce me to a teenage-appropriate complexion… Water helps too (drinking it, of course.) Don’t worry, you’ll rock the reunion; you’re a cool chick 🙂
I’m excited to see that colorway of STR knit up – it’s one I’ve been eyeing.

  24. Oh my. Good luck with the zit and the reuinion – the thought of my own makes me shudder – luckily, being 3,500 miles away makes for good excuses 🙂

  25. Hootchie.
    Mama.
    Farrah.
    Fawcett.
Nobody is mentioning the legs. Boobs are not the be-all and end-all ya know. The legs do not let you down. They ‘stand’ the test of time, har har.
    xo Kay

  26. Toothpaste on my (every-once-in-awhile) zits always helps me. Just a dab, let it dry, leave it overnight.

  27. You’re too sexy for your hair, too sexy for your hair, too sexy…

  28. Wow…I won’t be the only one to say it, I’m sure, but you really resemble Katherine Heigl!!
I had similar issues about my upcoming HS reunion – I kinda want to go, but for totally selfish reasons. I look better now than I did then, and I’ll have a hot new husband to introduce….but am I really dying to see anyone? No. The clincher was when I found out the event was $80 per person – I definitely don’t need to spend $160 to show everyone how cute we are!!

  29. My 20th HS reunion is in August, and my class has its own website, that I’ve also been stalking (I may have mentioned this in comments in the past…?) What is really interesting is how many people have been posting in the forum about their insecurities then AND NOW! People I never would have guessed to be insecure in high school. People fessing up that they are nervous about coming because they’ve gained weight, or came out, and saying “I’ll come if you come”.
I was a dweeby, band-y, theater geek with a very small circle of friends in high school, most of whom I’ve not seen or had contact with in many years. But I’m really looking forward to meeting the people my classmates have become.
Have a great time at the reunion!

  30. Rachel H says

The white tux is killing me. Absofreakin’lutely killing me.

  31. Girlfriend! The legs! The LEGS!
Have a great time Friday. I’m always pleasantly surprised at my reunions.

  32. My class is skipping the 20th reunion and instead having a 19th reunion gathering during my tini-tiny hometown’s Centennial Celebration and All-School Reunion. I really should pop over to the website and see who is hosting it. 🙂

  33. I went to my 25th two weeks ago. Not one of my friends attended and I had a total blast. I think at around 20 years, everyone has enough life experience that everyone ends up more or less even in terms of happy and successful. Well, except for the girl who has a billionaire (literally) daddy. She was still on another plane.

  34. I agree if you get one of those zit stopper-type medications, I think Neutrogena makes one and keep applying, the zit will go down in 1-2 days tops, it’s awesome. You were awfully cute in HS. Have fun at the reunion.

  35. Yay for more monkeys. Dang computer won’t let me see your pictures. 🙁

  36. I always wanted hair like that. First you show off that stupid banana seat bike, now the hair. Don’t worry, I don’t hate you because I ain’t you, you’re just helping me to be a better, more generous-hearted person. 😛
I think you need to start a new meme wave across blogdom. I want to see more senior pictures.
AND I love Cookie’s monkeys–I love ALL her patterns. I’m staving off the urge to drop everything and start knitting some Thelonius socks. I can’t hold out much longer. As soon as I find the right yarn… I know the STR that you have is beautiful on its own, but your photography makes it look unbelievably gorgeous.

  37. Cara,
Thank you for commenting on my blog and for being so gracious. For a anonymous blogger who calls a spade a shovel, kind visits from blog royalty set me in a spin. Thanks again…

  38. Ohmigod! HOW CUTE ARE YOU in your prom dress??!!

  39. you look HOT in that dress… did you keep it? Oh and I love the hair! Have fun at your reunion!!

  40. You must high tail it into the city to Kiehl’s and pick up their drawing paste. It is the miracle zit remover.
You look fantastic in those pictures, have fun at your reunion.

  41. In high school I used to use egg white on the “big red zit.” It would dry it out and take the inflamation out. It feels like a mini face life and leaves your face feeling soft. Haven’t tried it in years, but it used to work wonders. Have fun.

  42. Love the STR colorway!
I can’t believe the reunion is this week. I am sick with a cold that just better be gone by Friday! Your prom photo is cute. At least your hair looks normal–in mine I have mile high hair! Friday will be an interesting night…

  43. LeighB in ATL says

Gotta love that 80s hair! Personally, for my senior prom, I had more of a Patti LaBelle look (yeah, not a huge success, as you might have guessed).
Anyway, I think you’ll enjoy the reunion. I went to mine last summer and had a great time, and it was really interesting to see what everyone turned into, ya know?

  44. I have a 10 year reunion coming up and I’m debating going. I probably won’t. I’m very happy with where I am in life, but I really don’t care about most of those people. They weren’t nice to me in high school and I just can’t see exerting effort now. Gues sI’m just a crank these days. Also, I’m glad to know which weight you use for your socks. I was cruising the STR website yesterday and I wasn’t quite sure which one to nab. There seemed to be a couple of options that would have worked.

  45. Oh! Oh! This post reminds me of that old Oxy commerical that used to play when I was in high school: “And on your nose….the North Star.” I can do the voice, too, just not through the keyboard. Sending you clear thoughts!

  46. Like Kay said, dude, those legs are FIERCE! I wore a long dress to my prom, and propped the girls up instead, because my legs are nowhere near that gorgeous. Got to accentuate the positive 🙂
Have a blast at your reunion…I didn’t go to mine, as my husband was between passports at the time. I have mixed feelings about going to the next one…I was wicked shy in high school, so it always feels weird to see people whose faces I know like the back of my hand, but I didn’t really know them as friends back then. It’s like meeting them for the very first time. Very Twilight Zone 🙂

  47. I missed my 20th , we were moving to another state on the day of it, but I so wanted to go so I could stand up proudly and announce that Yes, I am homeless and unemployed.

  48. My 20th reunion was two almost years ago. We had so much fun! And now a bunch of us keep getting together to drink. That’s really fun! LOL We also started an email group to stay in touch and plan get-togethers.
Don’t worry about the zit, Cara. Wait until you see how fat and bald some of your classmates are!!! 😉

  49. I swear it’s your high school photo that they post on the reunion ads! OMG I think it really is! Just the suggestion of a high school reunion and you complexion conspires against you-not nice zit fairy! Have fun!

  50. First of all, you look great with feathered hair, and your legs are pretty sexy. It’s your old boyfriend’s outfit I’m worried about. White tux and white shoes is pretty gay.
What are you planning on wearing to the big night? Don’t fret about the zit. Put some windex on it.

  51. Ok, this sounds weird, but put deodorant on your zit. It draws it out and dries it up. It so works. :>)

  52. Good luck at the reunion. I was planning to go to mine in ’05, but bailed because getting my whole family from East to West would’ve cost a bit much for a trip to the middle of nowhere to see 100 people I didn’t much like in the first place. Maybe the 20. Or 30.

  53. Too fun – love those pics! I had the same hair do!

  54. Ooo! I had a black prom dress with black and white polka dot accents, too! Must find photos…

  55. You look so much like Kathrine Heigl from Grey’s Anatomy in your prom picture!

  56. Oh dude – the 80s hair flashback! You look hot and I agree with the Katherine Heigl comment.
