Some people think they have the Tiger Beat set covered. I beg to differ!
This song came up on our cable music. Baby and I were rocking out! Who else remembers taking the plastic cover off the Tickle deodorant bottles and using it as a microphone? Not to mention my brother on the (flash) lights while my sister and I choreographed our dances. Ahh the 70s!
OK… that was a way fun blast from the past. And I too remember Tickle deodorant, and they did make the perfect microphones!!!
Of course my husband (who is 6 years my senior) is rolling his eyes and acting like he just doesn’t “get it” as I’m strolling down memory lane with this video. I guess since he was almost in college when this came out he feels he was way too cool for such things. His loss!!!!
Thanks for the moment of fun. 🙂
I think I remember seeing Andy for the first time on the Donny and Marie show–or was it Solid Gold? Did Solid Gold air in the 70’s or was that an 80’s show? Thanks for the blast from the past!
Oh my God…I was SO in love with Andy Gibb. I went to his concert at Great Adventure in NJ when I was like 11 and was screaming and sobbing the entire time. I had posters of him all over my room and when I broke my nose, my mom said if I was brave in the ER, she would buy me his new album. Of course, I got it!!
Thanks for the happy memories.
When I was five or six years old I had the BIGGEST crush on Andy Gibb. I remember being in school on St. Patrick’s Day and we had to draw a picture of who we adored looking over the four leaf clover and I drew him.
I was a weird kid.
What a treat! I enjoy my 70’s music even more today than I did back then.
I remember Tickle deodorant! It was the first one I ever used and I bought the blue one because it matched my room. Then I got it home and realized that the color was the scent and this one was unscented. Imagine my disappointment – my very first deodorant and it had no scent. So, I went through a whole box of kleenex to use it all up and told my mother I needed more. She said I couldn’t possibly have used a whole thing of deodorant in two days but I told her I had really long armpits. I can still see my mom and dad laughing at the whole thing.
OMG, Tickle deodorant! I’d forgotten all about that.
i pressed play on this video and my 20month old came running in from the other room and started rockin’ out, too.
OMG…does that ever take me back. And Tickle was the first deodorant I ever used…I loved that bottle!
Cara, you are so good with the flashbacks! That was fun. My sister was going to marry Andy Gibb. I always went for the brunettes. I was going to marry Donny Osmond. Sigh.
Too funny! When I saw Tiger Beat I immediately thought of Donny Osmond. Must be the differences in our age…LOL. I was THE biggest Osmond family fan back then, but instead of Donny, I papered my walls with brother Jay..hahah!
Hope your feeling better 🙂
We used to turn the lights out in the basement and rollerskate around with flashlights playing Bay City Rollers. When we wanted to creep ourselves out we played Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man.”
Whoa! Junior High flashback moment and warm fuzzy Andy Gibb memories. ::sigh::
And Carole? I sure hope your armpits have shortened as you’ve gotten older. (seriously, your comment cracked me up).
My God. I had that 8-track.
I’m so old.
Omigosh, who’d think that a simple word like “Tickle” would instantly take you back!?! Mine was yellow.
Loved Andy Gibb-but I am with Cara–I adored Donny Osmond (I even had a denim hat like his). I remember the Tickle–anyone remember the Love’s Baby Soft?
And didn’t you think Kristi McNichols and Leif Garrett were the same person???
Shaun Cassidy was my man! You can keep your Andy Gibb! I so remember Tickle deodorant. and Love’s Baby Soft perfume. And Gee-Your-Hair-Smells-Terrific shampoo.
LOL. I remember this song I was a little bitty. I always that he was saying “shut up and sit”
ROFL.
How adorable was HE? I secretly thought he was the cutest ever but had to act all aw-I-hate-any-and-all-Bee-Gees-and-Bee-Gee-siblings.
TIckle. Vivid memory of that stuff.
Ahhh the 70s, barely having enough zipper to cover anything, but the belt buckle took care of that. Falling off the platform shoes, split disco dresses that blew open on a gusty day. The hair….those were the daze…
He keeps changing outfits and hair length. Bobby Sherman was better. Just saying.
Julie Julie Julie do ya LOVE me?
xoxo Kay
Tickle, Loves Baby Soft, and when you got just slightly older, Charlie perfume. Andy Gibb, Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy, remember them all well. I had them on cassette and my older brother had Aerosmith and Kiss on 8-tracks.
My favorite microphone was a bottle of Love’s Baby Soft 😉 And I was more likely to rock out to ABBA than Andy Gibb.
Andy Gibb–Shadow Dancing was the first LP I ever owned! (And my three older brothers just couldn’t STAND it!) Thanks for the flashback!
Oh I loved Andy Gibb! My best routines were to Jackson Five songs – nothing like a little ABC/123. . . .
I don’t know what’s more exciting – that rousing orchestra’s violins or Andy’s tight, hot pink pants. Wow. The 70s. God love ’em.
I was soooo in love w/ Andy Gibb — after I gave up Leif Garrett, that is. I had a whole folder of full page pics – don’t have any idea how I got them since my mother would NEVER have allowed me to buy a Tiger Beat magazine. I think I traded up some cast off Robbie Bensons. I just showed the video to my 7, going on 17 y.o. DD, told her he was my generation’s Zac Efron. She said Andy was “a little cute”.
Does anyone remember him hosting the music show called “Solid Gold”?
Dear Cara,
MANY congratulations on the success of SPIN OUT New York. You are a phenomenal organizer and i am thrilled that you have surpassed your goal of $30,000. Just amazing! AND congrats on your baby!!
I am writing because I have a friend who lives in Seattle. She would like to hire a spinner to spin dog hair from her pet into yarn . The hair is from a long hair dog- some of the fibers are 5″ long- she would like enough yarn for a generous size scarf. From what little i have read about this topic, I understand that the spinner will mix the dog hair w a compatible fiber to “stretch” the fiber to make enough yarn, when the dog hair is in limited supply. My friend has what she described as a grocery bag full, firmly packed.
Cara, in your network of spinners would you have someone who would be interested in taking on this project? My friend is a very special person, she volunteers at pet rescue and adopts senior dogs that no one else wants, give them the best medical care available and the most loving home. I would really like to help her with this, it would mean so very much to her.
Many thanks

PS- I tried to reach you thru your SpinOut address and my email was returned
Has it really been that long! I mean since men used to bare their chests like Andy;)
Hand to God, I was in my LYS last night, and we talked about our teenage idols…I’ll be damned, if I didn’t remember a big ol’ Andy Gibb poster in my room. Holy Hell…I’m a lurker, by the way. Love your stuff!
