I finished section 6 of Babette today:
This is where it stands right now:
I made a deal with myself that once I was through six, I would start seaming before I moved onto the next section. Let’s see if I can keep my end of the bargain. I’m definitely loving how it’s looking and I think it will look even better seamed up, especially if Ann’s is any indication. But I’m the greatest procrastinator in the world when it comes to sewing stuff up (not that I don’t like sewing, I just like knitting/crocheting better) so your guess is as good as mine as to what I’ll do.
Right now, though, I’m off to romp through the sock yarn. Tomorrow is a vacation day, so no post, but I’ll see you Friday with a new monkey on the needles!
Very nice! Though I think that I wouldn’t ever crochet that for myself, because of all the seaming that is required. I really don’t like seaming much… and yet, for such a nice project, I might decide that it’s worth it.
I guess I’ll just live vicariously through yours. Have a nice vacation day!
What great colors! The Babette is such a fantastic pattern, as soon I saw it online I ran out to get the magazine it was in. Now to learn how to crochet…
Cara – I want to follow you down the crochet path! You make it so tempting!
It’s looking fabulous! Are you going to whipstitch the squares together or crochet them together? I’m not familiar with the pattern to see what (if anything) it specifies….
Oh my god! I’m loving it. You’re making me want to learn to crochet so I can make one for myself…
It looks so beautiful! I love it. Thanks for sharing such pretty pictures! I’m so tempted to learn to crochet now. One of these days…
Why not crochet them together rather than seaming? You can make flat, raised or indented by going through both, front or back loops. I’ve done that a few times and it does work.
Good Luck, whatever you do!
This is so charming an unexpected – I love the many sized granny squares. So sweet!
Wow – that is going to be so fabulous. You’re really into the el huge-o colorful blankets, eh?
The blanket (well, the blanket pieces) is looking really beautiful.
She is looking lovely. I think I would of had to sew it together as I went. I am not much on the finishing. 😉
The colors are turning out great. I think I would have had too much trouble with someone else’s order, even if I’d picked the colors, to trust to the process. The process definitely works on this one.
I avoid seams so rigorously that my one crocheted throw was one giant granny square. It actually turned out quite nice. I had one color that repeated between three different three row combinations. Just enough repetition to sooth the mind but not enough for the eye to pick it out at first.
Beautiful!!! I’m horrible at crochet, but I so want to keep at it and make this blanket! The colors are gorgeous together. Good luck with the seaming! 🙂

New Monkey sounds so good…
Beautiful Babette looks like something you will have around forever as a companion.
hi did you see my babette?
have look here: http://www.myblog.de/allerleibuntes
It’s gorgeous. I bought the magazine last night and hope my crocheting-mother-extraordinaire will make it.
Or maybe I’ll learn to crochet better and do it myself.
Hi Cara,
From looking at the pictures of your Babette (and Ann’s too), I’m beginning to feel as if I should make one too. They are just gorgeous!
Take care,
Rosane.
Babette is looking so happy! I still snicker at all the crocheting that’s going on, makes me feel so validated 🙂
That is one beautiful blanket-to-be. I learned to crochet before I learned to knit but have always preferred the versatility of two (or more) needles. I think I could really enjoy making a Babbette of my own.
This reminds me of mosaics, specifically Gaudi’s. I just adore the different colors and sizes of square placed next to one another. Like others have said, it makes me wish I could crochet.
I didn’t think i could like anything as much as your mitres…well I was wrong. And to top it off it is making me very interested in crochet.
Ooh! What to do? What to do?
Such fun to watch it grow!
Congrats on the 6th piece completed! Talk about a slog-along. I just caughtr up with your archives and feel good about FIUNALLY posting. Take care!

I just saw that The Purl Bee (purlbee.com) has a nice Seaming-up Babette Tutorial by the woman who designed Babette. Looks super helpful. (I know you have Ann, but just in case another set of tips helps, I’m all for lots of tips. Gross as that sounds.)
