Yesterday I got some truly heartbreaking news. Well, I didn’t get it so much as stumble upon it. I made a lovely lunch of scrambled eggs and english muffins and sat down to watch my absolute favorite soap opera ever: Another World.
I’ve talked about this before, but watching the repeats of AW on SoapNet have been nothing but PURE BLISS for me. I started watching the soap opera when I was a young girl and continued watching it until they took it off the air. The day they started reshowing it on SoapNet was truly a holiday for me! To see those characters that I loved for over 20 years come back to life, well, I was speechless. To be able to spend hours knitting and spinning and fall in love again with the rich cast of characters was quite a gift.
Until yesterday. Yesterday, when I went to watch my beloved AW, I noticed that instead the sappy sophmoric sleeze-fest called One Tree Hill was on instead. Okay okay okay, breathe, maybe they changed up the time on you! They do that a lot. Breathe breathe. Maybe it’s one of those marathons. Okay okay okay. NO!! NO NO NO NO NO! SoapNet unceremoniously DROPPED ANOTHER WORLD from its schedule without a peep. There are 24 HOURS in a day – they can’t find ONE HOUR to show AW?!? Not one? BUT they can show One Tree Hill and The OC – then REPEAT THE SAME EPISODES like TWO HOURS LATER?! Give me a break.
I don’t know if you’re a fan of Another World, but if you’ve ever had something you love taken away from you without nary an OUNCE of respect, I’d encourage you to sign this petition. Also, if you’d like the phone number and or email address to complain to the network, leave me a comment and I’ll email you back.
DUDES! I was SO SAD yesterday I might’ve cried. Things were JUST getting good between Vicki and Ryan!! What’s going to happen with Cass and Frankie and Kathleen?!? Is Taylor FINALLY going to get her due for screwing with Sharlene? FREAKING CARL HUTCHINS IS BACK!!!!

I feel the same way too. I’m pissed about Ryan’s Hope too. I had just discovered that old friend and now they’ve either dropped it or cut it back to one episode a week for One Tree Hill? Waste of time. If you would please send me the phone and email, I’ll gladly contact them and remind them of what a soap really is.
I got hooked on General Hospital halfway through college. I haven’t watched a daytime soap in years, though, too many other things to juggle. It is an indisputable fact, however, that if I find the one style of shoes or bra or hair clip that I simply cannot live without (remember those metal ones that were covered in an imitation tortoiseshell plastic sheath? you can’t get those any more, only goofy sparkly ones that shred my hair), it will be discontinued. I feel your pain. I signed the petition.
I watched AW as a kid because it’s the one my mom watched and it was on right when I got home from school. Oh for the days of Rachel and Russ and Lenore. Sigh.
Another World. Wow. I work during the day, so don’t watch TV (I spend hours doing so at night, however), but some of my happiest childhood memories are of my grandmother, who was my babysitter, and I sitting around on beautiful summer afternoons, eating bowl after bowl of neopolitan ice cream and watching soaps, including Another World. And Days of Our Lives. And The Doctors…
Damn I didn’t watch it everyday but whenever I was home I loved getting my Frankie and Cass fix!

I loved AW too. I remember watching it with my mom when I was a kid and continued until they canceled it. Those characters and the ones from the early years of DOOL were like family. I didn’t see it often on Soapnet, but always checked to see when it was on when I was home. I’m off to help raise a stink.

Like Carole and Sonya, I used to watch it after school with my mom; when I went to college, I used to get all grumpy if I had to schedule a 3 p.m. class. On one of my trips home for Christmas, my mom and I were discussing the Jamie/Lisa/Vicky love triangle and I said, “boy, I remember when Jamie Frame was a kid.” My mom replied, “I remember when Jamie Frame hadn’t even been born yet.” I was appropriately impressed. 🙂
HI, I know what you are saying…but I have to tell you that it is very easy to become addicted to the sophomoric sleaze!! It is embarrassing but I do watch One tree hill…By the way, I love watching you blanket come together!

I will admit to full-on weeping during the final episode of Another World. Which was especially embarrassing since we had houseguests at the time. My husband’s friends. Who didn’t really know me. It was humiliating. But I was devastated. I signed the petition.
I try to stay away from the soaps at this stage of my life because I (all too easily) get sucked in. But I loved AW “back in the day” and I would have a hoot of a time seeing the old episodes on Soap station. I forced myself to not watch often but it was a blast seeing Vicki and Cass and Rachel and MJ and…..
I could go on and on forever. Those were the good ol’ days. Sorry they cancelled it. Shows a lack of class on their part (IMHO).

I loved Another World – watched it all the way through high school and on. Seeing that I don’t get cable, I was missing out, but the download idea sounds good. Ooh, twin Vickies, early Anne Heche and Kyra Sedgwick and even Faith Ford.
OK, I admit it. I am upset too, Another World and Ryan’s Hope gone again! DOOL is my fave soap, but I used to tune in AW when it used to be on right after. I feel your pain. I read somewhere DOOL is going off in about a year or so too.
Yeah, I hear you. I don’t watch Another World, but all the moving and shaking took my Beverly Hills 90210 from 5 and 6 down to 3 and 4 o’clock.
Friends, I don’t want to watch One Tree Hill. I want the 90210. My knitting will suffer, otherwise.
I totally understand. I am a loyal Y&R fan. They switched the schedule and now it’s on at 10 pm central time. Man! This is too late for me. I have kids and work. I have to be in bed by 10 at the latest. On a possitive note though. When I’m up feeding the baby a bottle I can watch it from 3-4 am. Good Grief!! I understand your pain.
