Guess where I was all morning?
I dropped G off at the train – I didn’t even have knitting or water with me – and decided I needed to go to Ikea. And since I was already out of the house, I might as well go now. I called Jen and she was up for it, so Jen, Xavi and I all headed out to Sweden for the day. My intention was baskets. The house is still a mess and it’s driving me crazy, but it’s really hard to clean up when you don’t have anywhere to put anything. My closet has about as many bins as it can hold and I figured some pretty baskets in the living room would be good for holding fiber near the spinning wheel. But I ended up with this:
It’s MY VERY OWN YARN CABINET!!! It will be perfect in the bedroom, right under the Dali print and I can put yarn in it and notions and fiber and I can finally get the crap off the floor. Georgie doesn’t know, so shhhh! He’s out tonight for work, so I’m hoping I can get it all built and filled with crap before he gets home. He’ll be so happy I’m finally cleaning up! I also got a nice basket, and a new lamp for the cabinet. Okey dokey! I better get building!
Way to go!!
Don’t you love things you can put together with an L wrench? Let’s see it full of yarn!
Woohoo! I have my own yarn cabinet and I love to open it up and see what’s inside. Except for the bottom shelf which is full of the “what the hell was I thinking yarn”.
I also recommend a nice basket on the top with some “display yarn” in it.
Ohhhh, I love IKEA!!!! Yes, yes, let’s see it full of yarn!!!!
I’m going to Sweden Saturday and I can’t wait….seeing your stuff makes it soooooo much harder to wait!
I’m totally jealous. That’s the one things we don’t have here and we need it! At least we’re getting a Trader Joes next month right up the street!
Heh, I love the triumph of a successfully constructed piece of IKEA furniture!
Organizing yarn . . . one of my favorite things to do!
Genius! Does it really have all those little drawers? because that’s what a yarn-er needs, is lots of little drawers for lots of little doo-hickeys…
Congratulations!
Oh I can’t wait to see it, Cara. GREAT purchase, and it will be stunning in your bedroom. Functional yet stylish. You can’t go wrong. Hope that the building process is going well!
Thanks for taking us along this morning. We had fun. 🙂 love, J & X
Isn’t it great how IKEA provides all this great storage for yarn and fiber? I can’t help but wonder if that’s what they had in mind. Of course, they are Swedish and we Swedes appreciate wool so maybe this was part of their plan.
I love Ikea and that cabinet is amazing. I see you also got a knitting cube (the square basket in your picture). I got one for Maribel for Christmas and she loves it. Hell she even named her new blog after it!
ooooh, you scored!! I miss IKEA.
It’s gorgeous!! I am so jealous!!!
Oooooo…. I LOVE that yarn cabinet! It would go so nice in my house. Hmmm…. but I need more yarn to fill it with. heh
It’s fabulous! I love it and I’m jealous. Too bad the closest IKEA is Phoenix (or maybe Seattle – too far)! I hope the building is going well.
Very cool! Can’t wait to see it chock full of fiber and yarn.
i love ikea! i can just see you now sprawled out all over your apartment, pieces everywhere with the directions laid out in front of you. looking forward to seeing it done!
Gee, that’s almost as nice as the two crapola plastic drawer thingies I bought to cram all my poor stash into. My stash wants to move to New Jersey and live with you. I can’t say as I blame it.
Way to get organized!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn’t it refreshing?????
Oh – that’ll be lovely filled with fiber! Must show pictures. you must!
I so miss IKEA living in Florida now…so very envious! Congrats on winning the Valentine’s drawing for Red Hot Sizzling Socks!
Haha, Cara, that reminds me of my first-ever furniture purchase… went out to buy a bookcase (just a little shelf, really, I didn’t have many books at the time) but came home with an antique, mahogany, stacking barrister’s case that a really nice old guy let me buy “on time.” I spent about 20x more than intended. I still have it — pride and joy.
I hope you read Stephanie’s post about the Ikea bookshelf assembly a couple of weeks ago — follow the directions! Good luck. I predict you’ll have that thing filled up in NO time!
Ooh I’ve seen that one, it’s veeery pretty. Smart shopping Cara!
Please tell me that IKEA assembly directions haven’t made you cry.
Oh IKEA is my second home. I love that stash holder!!! Great choice.
Yumpin’ yiminy! That’s one fine yarn cabinet, ja!
(I am half Swedish so I am allowed to make fun of Swedish accents, ja.)
I can’t wait to hit the Ikea that just opened near us. I’m thinking something like you got, or the one Amy from Knitty posted on her blog…..decisions…
Oh my, did you make me laugh when I saw what you went for and what actually came home. I can just see your husband’s face! Thanks for the laugh on a cold, snowy Denver morning. By the way, I bet it’s stuffed all ready and you need to go buy some baskets……

Dude! The cabinet is awesome! 🙂 Hey – are you going to Maryland this year?
I love IKEA, and I am very sad that things have gone so awry, but which basket is that??? I am totally in love with it! Will you tell us (or me) it’s name?
Can’t wait to see the cabinet full of yarn!
