Meli and I are heading out tomorrow for our first weekend away! We have a family event to attend on Saturday and will be staying with my sister for the weekend. To say Meli’s cousins are excited is just about the understatement of the century. Me? I’m excited to bring my knitting! There will be lots of people wanting to hold my baby girl – free hands! YAY! (Cece is coming along slowly but surely. Maybe I’ll have a progress picture next week.)
I’m not used to this whole baby traveling thing, so I’m a bit nervous. We’re taking the train down and while usually I’m packing my bag three seconds before I leave, there’s lots of stuff I need to take. Dresses for her, and me, and packing for two. Logistics have become high priority.
Anyway, I’m so tired and I haven’t even started getting ready. Just wanted to pop in and let you know we’re good since the Friday post won’t be coming.
Have a great weekend everyone!
L, C & M
Have fun! And don’t let Meli get totally spoiled over the weekend!
Did you get a new husband? You signed the post “L, C & M.” Who is L? Have a great weekend. I hope Meli loves all the cousin love. Can’t wait to see pictures.
Yeah, packing for yourself and a child is like packing for three people. It’s way more work than packing for just one person.
Have fun!
Thank you for keeping your readers updated. Meli is so beautiful. It is fascinating to watch your progress from inception onward. I hope every day is wonderful.
Have a great trip!!! and yeah for family wanting to watch over the baby to give you knitting time 🙂
I just wanted to let you know that it’s actually possible to knit and nurse (and even watch the box if that’s your thing) all at the same time. I did this for about 8 months with my second because she refused to sleep out of arms at the time! And no doubt I’ll do it with my third due in July! So it *is* possible! With a bit of practice, and the right positioning!
Have a great time!
The great thing about nursing is that there’s much less to pack! And there are stores everywhere so you can take the just the bare necessities for Meli. So 42″ rolling suitcase should do it for the weekend!
Nah, I bet you could pack one backpack and the diaper bag, put her in the stroller and be done!
Thanks for taking the time to post. Have loads of fun!!!
You’ll do great! Have fun and much love to all of you!
Have a fun trip. Try not to bring too much (it just makes the getting there part a bit more stressful). You’re the food and you’ll have access to a washer.
I loved travelling with the babe at this age–super easy compared to later.
Welcome to motherhood: lots to pack.
If you are going somewhere that has laundry facilities it’s a little easier. Just don’t forget your camera. I love seeing your photos of your little one. She’s so cute.
Safe travels!
Have a wonderful time! Hope to see you again soon at one of the Guild meetings with Meli! And if she’s using one,,,, as your packing,, do not forget to pack the BINKY!!!! Or at least a spare!
Family Trip! Yay! Take lots of pictures, brings lots of baby stuff! and ENJOY!
Have fun Cara!!
LOL… my little one (6 wks) and I are also taking our first road trip this weekend, and I also am greatly looking forward to some knitting time while doting family members vie for cuddling time with the baby!
Happy travels…
Have a great time on your trip!! Always fun for the relatives to play “pass the baby” so you can do some visiting yourself!
A piece of advice from someone who has traveled lots with three children….consider how many changes of clothes you might need for Miss Meli, worst case scenario (picture spit-ups and poop overflows) and then double it. Take that many outfits along. If you only bring the bare minimum, that’s tempting fate and Murphy’s Law says you’ll go through them all in the first half day lol.
Travelling with a little one gives a whole new meaning to the packing thing. I always forgot the infant tylenol and everytime we went somewhere overnight, we needed it for something (probably teeth). I had more open bottles of tylenol! Have a good time showing Meli off.
I have a tip–just a general one. I found it useful and was thankful I took the time.
I made a master list of “things to take along with baby” and made multiple copies of it. The list had a “warm weather” column and a “cold weather” column. And I listed all the very obvious stuff just to be safe–I literally listed the baby as well (more to make myself laugh than anything else!)
When we planned to be away, I grabbed one copy and then packed.
Have a great time!
bon voyage
Hope you have a ball! It gets easier, promise 😉
Have a wonderful time! I’m sure you will do just fine on this adventure…Mother’s always find a way to work it out, whether they remember all of the minor tidbits or not. (At least, mine always did…I’m lucky to get successfully get myself together for a trip!) I’m sure you’ll do great. And have fun knitting!!!
I hope you had a wonderful time! Just remember, that the amount of stuff the child needs is inversely proportional to the child’s age. When ours were tiny, we felt like Sherpa guides lugging an inordinate amount of baggage (diaper bag, suitcase, and when we went on vacation, the portacrib and swing). As they’ve gotten older, they’ve needed less stuff, and they can carry their Gameboys themselves.
It’s days later… hope you both had a fabulous time! When mine was 4 months old I drove for 9 hours to get home to visit family. It was a long trip! Especially with nursing breaks. Extra baby-holding hands is a wonderful thing! And nothing beats MAMA in the list of things. My kiddo is 12 and even just today I was looking at him and thinking how beautiful he is, how he’s changed, and how much I love him and how grateful I am for him. It is a journey!
Oh, and I meant to offer this… if you sleep with your baby (I did, probably for what most people would consider too long), and you’re in a new place, or if you want a switch… be careful! I put him on my right side one night instead of my left… and he rolled to find me to nurse and FELL OFF THE BED! Worse… he broke his collar bone! Talk about mama guilt…
have a wonderful trip, you have a beautiful baby girl!
Hm, I know you are busy in a much more important way,…. but still, I miss your posts! I keep coming back everyday to read the same posts over and over, over and over… I hope you don’t take this as a complaint, just to let you know you are missed!
You and Meli went to Webs?! (I just read the Webs blog)Have you been before? Did Meli like it? Wow, you and Jason Brooks all in the same weekend! So much celebrity! Hope you had a great time here in Western MA.
