My left eyelid has been twitching on and off for a week. That means I’m dying right? Or I’ve got some terrible neurological disease? How long does it have to twitch before I need to see someone? It doesn’t hurt. My eye doesn’t shut. It’s just the corner (farthest from my nose) won’t stop twitching.
Last night I didn’t spin or knit but I thought about it. I was kind of in a mood, shall we say, and I didn’t feel like anything but I didn’t feel like nothing either. Makes sense, right? So I climbed into bed and read my book. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. Our favorite Bookish Girl kept telling me to read it and I picked it up way back when and I’ve been reading like half a page before I fall asleep every night. There is nothing better than falling asleep while you’re reading. Seriously. It’s the best sleep. Anyway, I noticed the other day when I opened the book that my marker was on page 500 and something. I thought oh I stuck in there and fell asleep. Reading half a paragraph a day CANNOT get you that far into a book. But I was that far. I’d say that’s a testament to the story. I must really like it to have read so much. It’s a good story.
I LOVE Turbo Tax. LOVE IT! We used to have our taxes done by a friend and then I decided I wanted to do them myself. We don’t have lots of fancy stuff to do – I mean my business is really just a Schedule C, nothing too complicated, but TT gets you through it all. And we usually end up with a nice chunk of change in the end. I know that the experts say you’re supposed to work it out so that you break even at the end of the year – owe nothing, get nothing back – so that you’re money is your own, but we like to think of the IRS as a kind of savings plan. The money in our paychecks would just be shit away anyway. So when we get that nice check in the Spring we can take a vacation. Pay some bills. You know. It’s like a present. 😉
Yesterday I started doing the taxes. I used TT last year so it saved A LOT of time. They just transfered over all the stuff from last year’s return and I just have to fill in this year’s numbers. Voila! They need to be done by this weekend. I’ve got company coming next week. I think. YAY!
I also sent out a job yesterday and my Project Spectrum Postcard swap stuff that is very, very late. I hope though, that my pal, Kelly, will get it before the end of the month. You know. When pink/red is over. I suck. I’m really hoping to do better next month. I promise.
My sister and the kids get back from vacation tomorrow! They’ve been gone FOREVER! YAY! I miss them so much. Not this weekend, but the next weekend, is the baby’s FIRST BIRTHDAY! Can you believe it? He’s such a sweetie pie. Ooooh! I miss them all I just want to eat them up!
Thanks for all the ghost stories. I haven’t picked a winner yet – I haven’t had a good read through them yet. Although when I read Jen‘s comment I didnt’ realize how long I had been in my office, that has no windows, and when I got up and walked into the hallway the house was pitch black. Every light in the house was on in like seconds. I’m just saying.
I miss my Beaded Diamond Fantasy Shawl.
I think I’m bored with socks. And I think I can’t do my sock pals socks two on two circulars. I tried to work it out in my mind and it just feels uncomfortable. And I don’t want to do magic loop. I’d love to cast on for them, but I don’t know how many stitches and what needle size and I don’t feel like figuring it out. Blah.
I need to start running again.
Oh, don’t worry about the eyelid. It’s just an annoying tic. I have it, got it from my dad…he now gets Botox injections in the eyelid to stop it. Says it doesn’t hurt. I tell him it’s just his 83-year-old vanity getting the better of him. 🙂
I had a hard time with Kavalier & Clay and wound up just skimming to get through it. I’m glad you’re enjoying it, though.
Have you ever been twitchy before? I get a twitch now and then, but it’s always temporary — stress or something, I’m sure.
BORED WITH SOCKS??? Oh my.
Turbo Tax SO TOTALLY ROCKS! I’ve been doing our taxes using TT since 99 and it’s actually fun to do. Like a video game but I might make money in the end. And it brings me back to that weird freshman year when I was a business & art history double major and took a year of accounting. I’m usually in denial of my financial skills but this usually makes me feel all nerdy and smart.
The eye twitch is probably just stress. I get it during stressful times and it goes away when the stressful situation is resolved. I’ve been enjoying everyone’s stories. There’s nothing like a scarf to cure sock bordom syndrom.
Wait. You can NOT be bored with socks. You are my sock-knitting-muse!
Have you ever done this welt fantastic? I love it so much!!!
i get the twitchy eye. right now i’ve got a muscle in my jaw cheek area that’s twitching off and on. it goes away. it’s just stress. or you’re tired. nothing serious. you won’t die.
The twitch is probably just stress. I get one every once in awhile.
Next year I’m getting Turbo tax. I had my taxes done this year and it was a waste of my money. I’m sure I could have done them myself
yep, twitchy eye = stress. same thing with me.. lately i’ve been so stressed the area to the left of my nose has been twitchy so i think that i look a little like elvis. weird.
I love your shawl so much that I bought the pattern and am going to start it soon….but on to the topic of your sock pals socks…if you don’t want to knit them then send me the yar, I have the pattern, and your pals measurments. you know all the good stuff. I finished my pals so waht do you say??? Just a friend helping a friend.
If you become bored with socks, our world, as we know it, will come to an end.
Come back to the fold, little one.
Try something organic – like 5 bamboo needles. Too much addi use has been proven to cause heavy metal disease. Or, how about some EBONY sock needles – guaranteed to bring anybody out of a sock knitting funk.
Treat yourself!
The twitch – mine does that when I get tired or stressed (or both). It’ll eventually go away. I need to start running again too, but this weekend is daylight savings, so it’ll be light enough when I get home from work to run.
Try massaging your masseter muscle – big jaw muscle under your cheekbone.

If you’ve been gritting your teeth a lot lately, that can cause your masseter to tense up!
Yup — eye twitch is stress. I had an eye twitch non-stop for about 7 days and I was startng to FREAK OUT (because hello! stress!) and it suddenly went away last week.
Yes, in fact, your boredom with socks has caused a dreadful eyetwitching disease. The cure…mittens. Knit more mittens. And drink a big glass of wine.
Seriously, what is that eye twitch crap? Mine always twitches around someone who I don’t want to think that I am winking at them.
My eyelid does that when I’m stressed.
Heh, if I was your Postcard Swap pal, I’d be so excited by the gorgeous artwork I’d be sure to receive, I wouldn’t mind that it was late. 🙂
Another vote for stress. My eye twitches when I’m stressed. It freaks people out at work.
Vitamin B complex deficiency caused by stress. Start running it will help with stress, tick and boredom. You CANNOT be bored with socks! It’s just spring fever and you want to be in bare feet. I do. Everyday I look in the drawer and think…but the new sandals! Where is the sun and spring?
Kavalier and Clay is brilliant. It’s been my subway reading lately, and I’m nearly done. Two more commutes should do it. It sat on the shelf for the longest time, and now I’m sorry I waited so long to read it.
Let’s start running together-maybe your eye will stop twitching. 🙂
Stick with Kavalier and Klay. You won’t regret it.
As my therapist always says – annoying man – what are you feeling when it twitches?
I get them when I’m getting near something uncomfortable. It’s like a check engine light.
Ah, the dreaded Eye Twitch disease. I’m happy to report that it’s not fatal. Stress, sleep-deprivation, staring at a computer screen too long all are the culprits. Or maybe it’s from not knitting enough socks.
How could you possibly be bored with socks? You’ve only knit about 900 pair already this year.
I loved Kavalier and Clay. In fact, I’m thinking of re-reading it very soon.
My father’s eye was twitching but it turned out he was drinking too much coffee. I hope yours gets better soon.
And I’m not bored with sock knitting – yet – I’ll be so happy when my sock pal socks are done, though. I guess I have a short attention span.
It’s official – the plans are still on!!!
AND – I got my book today. Love. it.
I am so glad you like that book, I always feel responsible when I recommend stuff!
I also think it’s stress. If I get too stressed my eye will start to twitch sometimes for days depending on how stressed I actually am.
To echo everyone else, eye twitch is stress for me too.
And I love Kavalier and Clay – I usually reread it about once a year!
You should read Summerland by Chabon – it’s a great story. It’s catagorized as YA, but I think it works as an “adult” story too.
Have I told you that I love the banner? I love the banner! Everyday I can’t wait to see what gorgeous picture it will be!
Maybe you need a sock break for a few days – that always makes me miss them!
Beautiful banner photos! Someone had you listed in their Auntie Meme posting and I made my way over.
Oh no! The fatal eye twitch! Everyone’s been warned about that. First the twitch, then the spasms then a horrifying death. Or not.
A co-worker of mine said there’s an old wive’s tale that a twitching eye means someone you know is “in a family way” if you get my drift…or, it could simply be stress and dehydration. She was trying for another child at the time, so who really knows. No more ghost stories and drink more water!
how could YOU be bored with SOCKS?!?!?! you NEVER knit any socks!!! That’s INSANE!
My eye twitches with lots of stress (even if I don’t “feel” stressed) and fatigue.
My eye twitched non-stop the 2 months before my wedding, 3 weeks before my son was born, and the entire 5 months my hubby was unemployed (2 years ago.) I’ve had it for a couple days at a time here and there when things get rough, but it’s never been fatal.
In fact, I now take it as a sign to evaluate life and slow down a little.
Oh, and I think knitting cures it…. At least that’s what I tell my hubby.
“Eye twitch” is not equal to “death.”
Kavaliar and Clay is one of my top five books of ALL TIME. ALL TIME. 😉
Your sock ennui will lift. I promise.
i get that eye twitch too. and i am terrified every time. loved kavalier and clay. and summerland.
run, c, run!
