Pain in The Freakin’….

The dream is over:

But at least I’ve got some good pain relief:

I don’t know. I’ve decided I’m not going to push on the Almost Everyday Cardigan for Rhinebeck. As much as that devastates me. I’d rather it not be ready, than not be able to knit at all. Although morning might not be a good time to evaluate these things. My hand hurt much more when I woke up this morning than it did all day yesterday (not to mention my back.) G says it’s because everything gets stiff overnight and warm during the day. So I’ve got this little brace on (I actually switched out the one in the picture above to a different one.) G is so good when it comes to injuries. Well, unfortunately, he’s got A LOT of experience. We went to the drug store last night and I tried on a million different braces and he had me get all the ones I liked, including one that’s a hot and cold wrap. So I’m going to wear the brace while I’m at the computer and when I attempt to knit and we’ll see how it goes. If I’m in pain – that’s it. I’m done. Thanks everyone for the advice and exercises. I’m so SAD!

I am going to Purl today to buy that extra hank (or two – yes I’m paranoid) of Manos just in case I can get the sweater done. JUST IN CASE! And I’ll see if I can get buttons this week – maybe today, we’ll see.

Feel bad for me. Feel very, very bad for me. 😉

Comments

  1. I’m sending healing vibes. They work. Believe it!! You’ll be fine, I know this. Buy buttons, it’ll help. Join the paranoid club, I always buy too much yarn, I don’t like stress at the end. Heal, hand, heal.

  2. Wear the brace at night, too; it doesn’t have to be tight, but wear it so your wrist stays straight and gently stretched rather than curling in as it wants to at night when you’re curling up. Don’t wear that thing too tightly at any time, really. We could definitely be a pair right now — you with a bum hand on the left, me on the right. It is a very, very sad thing.

  3. I will tell you to be a good girl and wear the brace. Rest your hands. Then again, my friend didn’t listen to me, and she was knitting within days of rotator cuff surgery. Count me in for Rhinebeck.

  4. My PT tells me that it has something to do with fluid and swelling at night. I dunno. Advil, and stretching.

  5. Drugs might be the answer in your case. Keep the inflamation down…ice, too as G said. Damn…hope it heals quickly! If you think physical therapy might help you should have it checked out!

  6. I want you and your gimpy friend Vicki to know that although we may be blogger buddies and are having a Rhinebeck slumber party —- everyone is in charge of wiping their own ass.

  7. Get pain-free soon!

  8. Oh, that Ann, a regular old sweetheart, ain’t she?

  9. Don’t push it. I’ve faced the fact that I am not going to have my Ribby done by then, either. It doesn’t matter. I’ll most likely wear my Hamilton College sweatshirt. If it stays as hot as it is now, we’ll all be in tank tops anyway.

  10. how terrible. i hope your hand improves quickly, but in the meantime wear your brace as much as possible to help it along.

  11. Oh poor you. I get sore from time to time and it’s always scary. One tip: wear the brace while you sleep. It does wonders, and hey, you wouldn’t be knitting anyway! 🙂

  12. Oh no! How are you supposed to do anything with a brace on? Poor you. On a brighter note, I was thrilled to see Junior Caramels! I didn’t know there was such a thing! MMMMMmmmm… Your G sounds like such a prince. 🙂

  13. I think that’s a good call–better to be able to, you know, USE your hand than to finish the sweater by next weekend and be crippled. Really, we won’t hold it against you! That said–I hope your hand is in knitting shape again soon!

  14. I’ve had major hand problems, too. My work? All day on a computer. My hobbies? Knitting, making jewelry, playing oboe – all requiring fine motor skills. I was in real trouble there for a while. Tried braces, tried acupuncture. The acupuncture helped the pain. What really helped me heal, though, is my chiropractor. She’s of the snap-crackle-pop variety (Gonstead method — aggressive adjustments). It took awhile, but I’m much better now.
I also regularly switch from Amurkin’-style throwing to Continental — especially since I haven’t had a chance to get to my chiro for a while. Good luck!

  15. I’m sending good vibes your way Cara — take care of yourself! My mom just had carpal tunnel surgery from the wear and tear of being a teacher. It sounds like you are really thinking well and taking care of yourself before things get too bad.
    Well done!

  16. Mamacate is right…brace at night helps a lot. Poor darlin’ 🙁

  17. I feel bad for you…very, very bad! 🙁 Get well soon.
    I didn’t know they had Junior Caramels…YUM!!!

  18. Oh, Cara, I’m so sorry. Not being able to knit just sucks.
Be careful with computer stuff, too.

  19. ROFL at Ann’s comment!
I do feel bad, yet, envious… I mean, Junior CARAMELS!? Keep those farrrr away from here. 🙂

  20. Oh, i’m so sad for you. Definitely wear the brace at night, it helps. oh, and those heated/therma wrap thingys work wonders, especially in the mornings.
    Yummy junior caramels! Excellent medicine!

  21. awwww, rest up and eat those caramels and don’t worry about the sweater!!! Your arm is more important!

  22. oh no hope your hand is better soon!
