I haven’t knit since my last post. I’m back at work full time. I miss my knitting.
I’ve been thinking a lot about getting back into blogging every day – or at least almost every day – but I’m having trouble remembering what I used to blog about so much. I couldn’t have had knitting EVERY day, so what did I talk about?
Here’s what’s going on:
— I found a cute top to wear to a couple of parties I have this weekend. NOT maternity. I can’t wear a maternity top to save my life. I had an argument at the maternity clothes store the other day with the salesperson who told me the reason the tops don’t fit is because I need a new bra. Yeah. That’s gonna help. My chest is BIG. Bigger than the little tiny spaces they allot for boobage in the empire waist maternity tops. My bra is FINE thank you very much. Much more supportive than the one you’re trying to sell me. Anyway, so the top I found was in the Women’s department. Lots of room for boobs and bellies. Big girl clothes have saved my life this pregnancy. Soon, though, they’ll be riding up too much in the front, but for now they’re just right.
— I am in desperate need of a pedicure.
— I don’t think I mentioned this – but I got new glasses. They’re red. I desperately hope I don’t look like Sally Jessy.
— My hair is the longest it’s been in years and I’m loving it. I’m rocking out a Farrah feathered hair thing (which hopefully offsets the SJR thing) and my hairdresser was totally right – the bigger I get the more hair I should have. So my head doesn’t look like a pin head. His words, not mine. Man’s a genius.
— This past weekend I took off my wedding ring. I have two wedding rings – one fancy – one plain platinum band. I don’t think I’ve taken the plain band off since the day I got married. I’m wearing it around my neck now. I like it, but I miss it on my finger. My hands haven’t swollen too much, but they go up and down all day and I’m scared one day I won’t be able to get it off. Better to take it off than have to have it cut off.
— I haven’t worn any of my monkey socks yet this cold season. I think that needs to be remedied and remedied ASAP. Maybe today. But which pair to choose?
Random blather on a cold Friday. I have to go back to work, but I hope you all have a good day and a great weekend!
Good move on the ring. My mom had to have hers cut off when she was pregnant with me. I kept mine on a necklace for over 1/2 my pregnancy because I was terrified I’d have to have that done. When I was little I’d sit and look at my Mom’s rings in her jewelry box at the sharp edges and cringe. She never got them fixed…and I got to use them for my own wedding rings when I was 25.
There’s a ramble for you. 😉
Smart move with the ring. When the baby comes you’ll probably only get to wear the band again. Believe me wearing the fancy ring is not the best idea when changing a diaper. Also baby’s skin is a bit delicate, and I’m quite clumsy. So that’s the decision I made.
Complete sympathy on the no-knitting front! I’m sitting at work thinking about knitting, and it’s cold and rainy here. Here’s to more knitting time!
I feel you on the maternity shirts! I had the same problem. And I could go on and on about the bras they try to sell.

I’m making my first pair of monkey socks right now and I love love love them. I completely understand how you got so addicted!!
Let’s see a pic w/ you in the glasses.
Good move on the rings. I did the same thing. And leave them home when you go into the hospital.
I didn’t cut my hair at all when I was pregnant, even though I had short-ish hair up until then. Not a snip. And I LOVED how full my hair was while I was pregnant. It’s important to feel good when you’re pregnant.
You always have the neatest picture at the top of your blog.
Good idea with the ring, I did the same thing. OK, I’m jealous, when I was pregnant, I couldn’t see my toes;) Hope the work goes fast and the knitting long:)
You have a good weekend too, Cara…
Blessings!
Amen about the maternity tops. I haven’t found a thing to wear for Christmas yet, because they all have no boob room. Now, I have hope!
And, you (and all of the comments) are making me think I should think about moving my wedding band to my chain soon. It fits now, but some mornings it’s tough to move around. Eek.
Have a great weekend!
I actually had to have my rooms removed with thin surgical tape in the doctor’s office because my fingers were too swollen to have them cut off. The doctor said he would use a trick he learned at a cocktail party – much confidence inspired then – and proceeded to thread the tape through the ring and then literally wound it around my finger like the thread on a wrench. Did I mention that it was three rings (engagement, wedding, and anniversary)? No? How about the bruises left on my finger for three weeks? No? Smart move doing that now, Cara. Enjoy the red glasses . . . I’m buying a pair from Target with rhinestones.
Good move with the ring, although it is sad, isn’t it?
I removed my rings some time in September and I miss them! I’m always jealous of the pregnant women I see who are still wearing their rings. I tried to put them on a couple of weeks ago, but they wouldn’t go back on! I don’t even have any nice necklaces to wear them, so they are just sitting in a ring box on my dresser.
I had to go up a couple of sizes on the tops just to get room for the boobs. And now some of the empire waists are hitting mid boob. I’m also amazed how tiny my porno boobs look next to my belly! (they went from a 34C to a 38DD and they haven’t stop growing!)
Okay, this may be something you’ve already done, but…go to a specialty bra shop and get your bras there. You’d be amazed how hard it is to find a 34H nursing bra (the Goddess ultimately worked for me and I love the name!), let alone a regular bra. It’s amazing the work they can do with the girls. I’ll never get why maternity clothes are made for small boobed gals when we all get bigger and if you’re big to start it just goes down hill! I’m not sure I follow the sales lady’s logic though. Even with the right bra, if there’s no room, it just won’t fit!
I finally got my ring back on after 2 entire months postpartum, I was SO FREAKIN HAPPY! I was afraid I would have to adjust it and I really didn’t want too. I can’t wait to see your little one! You should email me girl I could tell you some crazy things! I know your busy though, take care!
Red Sally Jesse Raphaeal glasses…was that not the cheesiest show!! I know that ring feeling…sigh.
Forget about the pedicure…soon you won’t be able to see your feet!
i hear ya. i stopped wearing all of my jewelry around 7 months. i was so bloated! and if you think that you’re gaining water weight now, wait till the actual delivery. dear lord. i still haven’t put on my engagement ring. i’m afraid of scratching the peanut with it!
p.s. totally enjoy your hair now. i loved pregnant hair. it was so thick and shiny and lovely.
Tracy has a good idea. My best friend was so happy for *pretty* maternity (and nursing, if you go that route) bras, that the price of the bras was more than worth it.
You have so many lovely socks, you should just close your eyes and let the muse guide your hand. It is definitely sock weather.
Hi Cara,
congratulations!! i know i haven’t been in here in a long time.. but it has been one nasty year.. but since monday will be my 49th bday yes the real one.. not an anniversary i think i’m getting better finally.. anyway i see that you have a wee one onthe way!! CONGRATS!! i know i didn’t wear any maternity clothes when i was prego with Kori but i just got a size or two larger in clothes.. so much more comfortable.. just ignore the ninnies and wear what you want.. lots of hugs from out here in phoenix area.. and loving it still… Karola
Hey, same here on the rings – good move. I actually started wearing nursing bras BC (before children) too – couldn’t afford to just buy plain ones so went ahead and bought the larger sizes before. It was all about comfort for me. My BC bras just felt like prisons! Enjoy these days.
I’m not even pregnant and I can’t wear those empire-waisted tops. Who are all those clothes in the stores supposed to fit? Certainly not those of us with any kind of curves. And the hip-slung pants? No way.
Glad to hear you found something nice to wear, I wore big girls clothes until my bump decided to catch up with my boobs.
I just ordered new glasses, they are bright blue and purple and now I am scared I will hate them, I have to wait another week before they are ready.
Have a great weekend.
You may want to try Lane Bryant. It sells plus size clothing but they just came out with a maternity line. It may be available on their website. It should help the further along you go.
I remember those days when I had to move my rings to a necklace. My problem though, was that I looked like a very young unwed mother – and was treated like it. You should have seen the looks I got from the nosy bible belters. I wanted to crawl in a hole. Then it just made me mad. Why should I feel ashamed? I can laugh about it now, thank you very much, but not so much then. It’s a pity I didn’t get those looks during my second pregnancy. Getting older sucks, looking older sucks even worse.
I took off my rings for my pregnancy, but my fingers barely swelled at all. So I excited put them on again after I had the baby… having a baby will totally swell your fingers into massive digits. FYI! Give it a week afterwards, don’t make my mistake.
And CONGRATS! How exciting!
Big girl clothes got me all the way through my twin pregnancy. I don’t know who they make those silly maternity clothes for, but I couldn’t wear them from month 6 on.
Hope your tootsies are nice a warm right now in a pair of Monkeys.
Maternity clothes are awful, aren’t they? Oh dear, you’d better get that pedicure soon before you can’t see your feet anymore and you don’t give a rip. 🙂
I don’t even have the boobage you do, but I bought t-shirts and things at Lane Bryant because they covered up the belly (I’m very short-waisted, so they worked for a long time for me) and they have great sales.
If you get to missing having a ring on your finger, buy one at a department store. They always have eternity-type rings.
Can I just ask for an update on the Spin Out prizes? Or did I miss the announcements? I remember they got packed up a while back.
What did you blog about every day? Hmm… babette and crochet squares… monkey socks, monkey socks, monkey socks… lace shawls… work.. occasionally some non-fiber live thing. Last winter didn’t you teach us all how to make Irish Oatmeal?
pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures…
Does it matter? We will read what you blog if only blogged your reaction to the phone book.
I to looked young when I was pregnant with my kids and I wanted people to know that I was married (just how I felt at the time) so I went to Claires and got a cheap ring several sizes bigger than my usual size that would fit. I had fun getting a big pink glass stone to wear for the rest of the pregnancy.
