It’s getting better all the time!

My spinning, that is! This is Lisa Souza’s Blue Faced Leicester in Spring Green. I’m very happy with it – still not as even as Norma’s singles, but more even than yesterday’s Coopworth. My plan is to finish spinning half on this bobbin, and then spin the rest on the second bobbin and PLY! Hopefully by the end of the week. That’s my goal.

I spent a decent amount of time preparing the fiber yesterday. It helped tremendously. And I tried to spin S L O O O W.

I was very productive throughout the day – I read in the morning, blogged, finished up two reprint jobs, sent them out, went to the grocery store, read more in the evening, spun for an hour, made dinner and finished the evening off knitting! I was quite proud of myself. Today, not so much, but I’ve read for the morning and I’m off to knit with a friend in need for the rest of the day.

Have a great day!

  1. Your spinning is looking great and I love those greens. I read that you ordered some VY yarn for CIT – did you get the 2-ply or the 3-ply? I have been looking at that and the Blackwater Abbey.

  2. Look at you go! Every bobbin will be better than the last and once you have a class you’ll really be flying.

  3. What pretty yarn – and what a fruitful day yesterday! Sounds perfect!
I’m still interested in joining the Jaywalkers KAL if your still accepting people!

  4. I’m with you; a knitting friend in spirit today. ; )
Wonderful spinning, Cara!! You’re doing it!! And, oh, what a great color.

  5. Your spinning looks great, Cara. Don’t toss anything out–it’ll bring fond memories of when you first started learning.

  6. It looks great! I love the color(s). Pre-drafting is key, but it looks like you’re well on your way now!

  7. Look at how much you’ve improved! I love the color of that roving. Sweet.

  8. look at that! the colours are amazing and the yarn looks beautiful.
don’t you just love those productive days? i’m sure we wouldn’t know to appreciate them properly if all days were like that 😉

  9. That is so pretty! I love the colors!

  10. That color is gorgeous! Either it’s the quality of your photography or the light…or maybe the roving…but that yarn is calling to me!

  11. Spring spring spring yarn. Happy happy happy color!

  12. Happy color! Happy yarn! Your singles look great Cara—just relax and have fun with it and it will all fall into place,

  13. Woo and also Hoo, dear Cara. It looks great! And I’m so happy to have pictures of the spinning now. I was really feeling left out of the whole process without ’em.

  14. Love that color! Great spinning, Cara 😉

  15. looks great! most of the yarn i spin looks like that and i like it that way. i found the lendrum to be a superfast wheel. good move on the slow down and predrafting. keep on…

  16. Ahh such a beautiful color. I’m looking forward to seeing it plyed. Plied? Dunno… strung together in a twisty way. 🙂

  17. go Cara hell yes, thats BEUTIFUL!! I spun for 3 hours last nigh.. BLEH!! lol.. well good but well man I still didn’t get through 1/4 a pound of corriedale!

  18. Oooh, it’s pretty! I really need to go back to spinning once in a while. I haven’t done it much in months and it can be awfully relaxing, once you get the hang of it.

  19. that looks fantastic!!

  20. Pretty!! I love green. Did you know you can ply from a center pull ball? Its easy and you don’t get leftover singles on a bobbin. spin all your singles on one bobbin, then use a ball winder to wind it up. then just hold the ends together, put it on the wheel, and ply. Easy!

  21. Do you know how hard it is for me to walk by the rentable wheels at my shop? Do you know I can take ANY of the classes my shop offers for free? Did you know they offer spinning classes? They start soon.
    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
    Yours looks great!

  22. It looks great–the green is gorgeous, too. Sllooooowww is a problem for me, too . . .unless you’re counting the time between stints at my wheel–it’s been over a week now . . . really, I don’t know how I can go slower than that and have anything at all to show for it!

  23. Don’t know nuttin’ bout spinin
But it sure looks good to me. LOVE.the.COLOR.
It will be beautiful. Green is my all time favorite and there appears to be a hint of blue. Can’t wait to see the finished project!

  24. I love that green!
How was your birthday, New Year’s-mate? Mine was nice, down in NC with my bro and s-i-l. It was a beautiful warm day, and we had a relaxed good time. Then, my brother made me a delicious apple birthday pie.

  25. Wait, how long have you been doing this? Cara, it’s gorgeous! And hey, it’s handspun, who says it has to be totally even?
    Truly, truly lovely. 🙂

  26. Your spinning is wonderful!

  27. Hi Cara – I saw your comment over at Margene’s place. I think you were thinking of RosebyAny’s 200Socks where we (the knit blogging collective) are trying to knit 2000 socks this year. Check her blog for the info http://rosebyany.blogspot.com/

  28. I’m so impressed by your spinnig. I’m not really surprised, though-you do so much so well.
