Happy Tuesday!

A simple I love you means more than money.
— Frank Sinatra

I had a beautiful post all written out and I freaking closed the browser. Yes. Without saving. An hour of my life I can’t get back. Nothing I hate more.

So, sigh. Valentine’s Day. Ol Blue Eyes had a way with words, no? G wants me to remind you all that everyday is Valentine’s Day in our house. It really is true. We rarely celebrate circumscribed holidays. We’re never together on Thanksgiving. Christmas is more an obligation than anything. Chanukah was fun this year for a change – and we were together. Birthdays are a REALLY big deal though – because why not celebrate a day that’s special to US instead of the rest of the free world (my birthday is still MY birthday.)

Happy Valentine’s Day if you celebrate. Or happy Tuesday if you don’t.

Last night I called Ann to tell her that her beloved Pug won the Toy Group at Westminster and she yelled at me. Why wasn’t I watching the Olympics?! Why wasn’t I knitting on my mittens?! Didn’t I know I was going to LOSE if I didn’t knit on them every second of every day?! I promptly told her that FINISHING was winning and that I wasn’t in competition with anyone but myself. It’s all about pacing too. Even though I didn’t knit at all yesterday on my Olympic Mittens, I fear I chose a too easy project. I’m pacing myself. I want at least SOME suspense and tension. Right? I am learning a lot though – enough that I now want to make this. Especially after seeing Sydney’s GORGEOUS sweater. My god GORGEOUS! But shhhh! I need more projects like I need another rib. It’s awfully crowded in there.

Also, I’ve been trying to cast on for the Embossed Leaves socks from IK using this lovely Koigu. I’ve cast on twice, with no luck. Today I will succeed. I’m going to do just a regular cast on with the twisted rib on size 2s and go down to 1s on the body. I’ll also be casting on for the next jaywalker. And of course, mitten knitting.

Check back tonight for the WINNERS!

Comments

  1. Happy Valentine’s Tuesday, Cara!

  2. Those socks will be stunning in that Koigu colorway!

  3. We’re so on board with you and Georgie. Birthday’s are really the best holiday to celebrate anyway!
That sweater – holy cow. Georgie-ous!

  4. I ususally cast on for socks over two needles and then knit the rib. Would that help? Enjoy your Tuesday, Valentine’s Day, ALL DAY!

  5. You are freaking me out! My hubby and I don’t celebrate any prescribed holidays (we do for our son) and everyday is Valentine’s Day around here – nothing more important than showing the one you love that you love them everyday not just on a day that retailers say. I just (and I mean yesterday) cast on the Embossed Leaves Socks with Lorna’s Laces (it did take a couple of tries to learn that cast on but I did it!) AND I have that Dalegarn pattern and have it on my list to knit. Oh yeah and I am constantly screwing up stuff on my blog! You are freaking me out!

  6. Oh and I just received the same colour of that Koigu in the mail yesterday! The same colour – wild! (I am not using mine for the leaves sock, don’t have a project yet in mind). Definitely freakin’ bizarre!

  7. I too have casted on for the Embossed Leaves socks twice now…sigh. I’m using the same yarn, but the speckles of color in mine are variations of green.
My fat calves are to blame…
Valentine’s, like many other holidays, can be a real pain in the ass. I don’t mind getting flowers at least once a year, but I won’t anyway, sooo…

  8. I’m bummed with my Jaywalker socks. I cast on for 2 socks at the same time and was going on so well….. anyways, happy valentines to you.
I still think that all single people should have the day off…. well retribution for being single.

  9. Travis I had just had a conversation last night about how Valentine’s day isn’t really something we put much stock in. It isn’t like we need a specific day to tell each other we are loved. That’s just a daily thing. Or that we need a reason to buy each other something nice. Ah well, it’s good for the florists. Lovely socks – good luck on the cast on and the sweater is yummy. I’m glad the mittens are going well and despite your belief that they were too easy a choice, you’re still learning a lot and gaining new skills. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

  10. I tried the recommended cast on for the Embossed Leaves over and over with no luck. I ended up using a regular long tail cast on and skipping the twisted rib. Otherwise, the yarn would be in knots and shoved under the desk, where my cat could easily get to it – and she loves to eat yarn. The Koigu you’ve chosen looks lovely!

  11. Happy Tuesday! I’m not much for Valentines day – too commercial…although tomorrow I’ll be hitting Godiva for the 50% off chocolate!

  12. Funny, my husband says the same thing about VDay…it’s nice. I’m watching the internet for results of the Herding group and Aussies! My boss’ dog is down there competing……better than the Olympics, I think (I’m more of a summer fan)! A Westminster KAL would be a quick one!

  13. Happy Tuesday! Love that Koigu — I do like Margene when I knit socks (all three pair!) and cast on over two needles. In fact, I think I learned that from Margene!
Ann also tells me that you LAUGHED when she mentioned the Michelle Kwan sadness! I have a feeling it’s because hockey is your sport on ice, not figure skating… Tell me, darlin’, what’s the beef with Michelle?

  14. Oh, and Wendy knit Ingeborg last year and I drooled on my computer screen every day — I think it’s one of the most beautiful sweaters ever.

  15. Can’t believe it. I just ordered the pattern for Ingeborg (among other Dale patterns and two more hat kits) because I am enjoying my hat so much. Of course, knock me in the head ’cause there is a big difference between a hat and a friggin’ sweater! Why can’t I just cruise slowly into something instead of plowing in like a tank?
    Happy Day!

  16. Those are going to be beautiful socks, especially in that colorway. Happy Valentines Day to you, too 🙂

  17. Cara, I just finished those socks. They were fun to knit, and they’re GORGEOUS! Mine are pumpkin…that’s what was in my stash…but the colors you chose would be even better!!!

  18. Every day is pretty much valentine’s here too. Although last year we started a tradition where we buy really silly t shirts for each other. Mine has Lynard Skynyrd on it and Cody’s says no one knows he’s a lesbian. Silly but fun ways to tease each other about our tastes in music. Cody did come home from work this morning with an adorable bear from Starbucks though. He has on the cutest little sweater. I’ve been watching Westminster instead of the Olympics too.

  19. I love bleeding hearts!! Thanks for the picture.

  20. I want you to know that I bailed on the Stashalong and it’s all your fault. I met with a tragic Socks That Rock accident.

  21. Did you have to post the link to that kit? Now I want one! Happy Valentines day!

  22. Hey C! Mona (the designer) has a good tutorial on her blog about the cast on for the Embossed Leaves… just FYI if you wanted to try again 😉

    Love,
    L

  23. Happy Valentines Day!
    And congrats on your Jaywalkers!
    All. of. them.
You are going to LOVE knitting the embossed leaves socks, I’m wondering how many pairs of those we’ll see from you 😉

  24. listen, I understand that you are your own competition, that a thoroughbred runs its own race and all that other crap …… has it ever occurred to you that I might have a little cold hard cash riding on this?? start knitting.

  25. You TOTALLY need another project. Ingeborg was so much fun to knit that I’ve just be recommending it all over the place. What else are you going to do once the thrill of the Olympics is over?
