Crazy Busy

Consider this your random post for the day!

~+~ I’m a loser. Let’s just get that out of the way right now. Tiffany sent me an email yesterday apologizing for her new mailperson’s abilities since she’s sure the package I sent her must have been returned. We can certainly go that route, if you’d like, but the truth is I’m a LOSER because I haven’t sent the package. That’s right L.O.S.E.R. I owe a bunch of people a bunch of mail. I’m sure you know who you are. (I hope I do!) I’ve made a pledge to myself that I will try to get together one package a night – you know baby steps – until everything is out. Rest assured – I never welch. NEVER. So you will get what’s coming to you. I’m just a bit slow at times. My sincerest apologies for making you wait!

~+~ The winner of my blogiversary contest will be named tomorrow. Which will coincidentally be my 300th post.

~+~ Crazy busy you say? Sure. Sure. No REALLY! My little home grown photography business has suddenly exploded. It’s like all the stars came into alignment, and by gosh – people like me. They really like me. (Or at least they like the pictures I take of their kids.) Which means when I’m not shooting I SHOULD be processing. I’m trying to keep the wait to three weeks for the final prints and that’s tough sometimes. And being sick has really thrown a wrench in the plans. It’s hard to see when your eyes are dripping and there’s tissue basically wallpapering your nose.

~+~ Speaking of sick – I’m on the mend. My sister was SO glad I was sick when I got to her house because their house is a veritable germ factory. They keep bouncing it back between each other and we were a delight to behold. It was a cacophony of sniffles sneezes coughs and nose-blowing. Ahhh. The horn section was particularly good. Nothing like a little snot with your Halloween candy. I’m most pissed that I haven’t run in a week. I only ran two days from being off the week for rain/Rhinebeck and then I’ve been off again on account of not being able to breath. And today is nuts with my getting ready for class tonight and I don’t think I’ll be running today. Or probably tomorrow. So Friday at the earliest and with my luck it will rain.

~+~ Tomorrow night, 7PM, Fales Auditorium, NYU Bobst Library there will be what promises to be an EXCELLENT reading. Jayne Ann Phillips and Deborah Eisenberg will be reading from their work. Be there or well, be stupid. Both of these writers are top notch, in my opinion – and I think it’s really rare for them to be reading.

That’s all for today! I really missed the blog (read: all of you!) while I was away. Sometimes I welcome the break – this time – not so much. See you tomorrow!

  1. Congrats on the photo success! Not that any of us are surprised:)

  2. I think it’s great that your business is doing so well. And you are very lucky to live close to the action so that you can just go over to NYU for an author reading! Jealous!!

  3. It feels like a big hole in blogland when you’re not around. It’s great to hear you are feeling better, too. Just do the best you can and all will be well.

  4. hehe! Now I wont’ feel bad about not sending your prize yet. I’ve got a TON of packages to mail, but I haven’t gotten them all together, and I have like… 2 more sections to sew on your book. (I’m dumb. I just keep avoiding it. 🙂

  5. Poor sweetie…we had the snots and everything else here, too. Happy sort of Halloween…at least we ate chocolate.
I’m SO glad to hear that the world has recognized your brilliance, because you know, we here in blogland all knew it already 🙂 If you were not so far away, I’d be hiring you to take pictures of my kid, too. You’re truly talented.
Good luck catching your breath! Crazy busy here, too, and I’ll be glad to sit down and knit something larger than a swatch. Someday.

  6. I think I’m one of those who know who they are. I guess I’ll stop running to meet the Mail Dude every day and practise being patient instead.
How exciting that your business is really taking off. Good for you!

  7. I have a hard time sending packages, too, don’t feel alone.
I’m so glad about your photography business! Your nature photos always make me want to go dye yarn in those colors.

  8. You are NOT a loser – just a busy girl! We can wait for our goodies!

  9. You’re not a loser! A week ago, I finally sent my friend three years of Christmas presents that I had bought but never sent her. Actually seeing her in person at my wedding for the first time in four years finally got me to send the stuff (though it still took another month!).

  10. I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes when I run while I have a cold or am sick like that, the sweating it out seems to help. Trouble is, breathing, which is better after. Slow down to a brisk walk, it’s still excercise.
I know what you mean about the mail. My post office is a twelve minute walk from my house. I NEVER get things out on time. So today I took every minute that I was home and got my backlog of stuff ready to mail. The check for my high school reunion, due Nov 1st, a check to M who sent me a book that I asked her to pick up for me, a check for the cd of Meagan singing at the All-Eastern festival last spring in Baltimore (hope they have some of those babies left), the prize for a contest on my blog over the summer (actually ended Sept. 27, so really, only a month or so. And Kris was at Rhinebeck! I could have saved myself the trip had I brought it!) and some other junk. Man, it is all in a neat little pile near the door and tomorrow I will not go anywhere before the post office. NOT ONE PLACE! So there.
    Happy about your photography business.
Hey, I’m on my second start of my first STR sock. This particular colorway is pooling rather unattractively. I’m knitting Jaywalker, cuz you made it look so good, and it is not working out. On my first try I had gone down to a zero needle, so I figured maybe I should go up to a one. Unfortunately, I only had 2.5 size ones, not 2.25, which I would have preferred, but I cast on anyway and am not past the ribbing yet, but it is not looking hopeful. I can’t post them to the blog because they are a gift for my sister and she reads it, so I am going to have to suffer in silence (hahaha, funny thought, that). I love the way this yarn feels though. Can’t wait to make the pair I got for me!
I’ll go now, next time I’ll send an email. 🙂

  11. I’m not at all surprised at your success with photography. You’re fabulous. Keep it up and I hope you’re feeling better soon. If you’re a loser, what am I? Loser squared?

  12. Going to the post office for me is a dreaded activity. I’d be quicker to get on the pony and express it myself across country!
Miss you lots! Take the time to enjoy the success of your business. That’s what you have been working for.
We’ll be here. We’ll leave the light on.

  13. Hi Cara,
Thanks so much for the tip off on the Eisenberg/Phillips reading. If I can swing it, I’m going to take the train down from Poughkeepsie to be there. I’m a big fan of both of theirs. I’ll be working on a multi-colored sock (the train ride could also help me get some knitting done), so please do introduce yourself so I can thank you in person.
    Gretchen

  14. Your socks totally rock alright. Can’t wait to see what you do with Meteor!
