I’m pretty sure this will be the new color of my new EXTREMELY beige kitchen:
It’s not the best representation. If you want to, go here and see it.
And here’s my beige kitchen:

There isn’t actually a lot of wall space in the kitchen that will be painted. The tiles go up really high and there are a few nice big windows with wide wood trim. The kitchen overall is pretty good – not the best, not the worst. We have a lot of cabinets, but surprisingly little counter top space. Who am I kidding? There’s a refrigerator, a dishwasher and there will be a microwave soon. The kitchen’s PERFECT.
We’re only painting a few rooms in the house – a couple of bedrooms, the dining room and the kitchen. Believe it or not, I’ve had a crisis of confidence when it comes to color. But after painting a few samples on the walls yesterday I’m feeling better.
This awesome yellow is a great start.
PS – Thank you all for the comments yesterday. They’re still all going to the junk folder but I tweeked things a little bit this morning so hopefully I’ll be getting comments emailed to me again. Off to meet with painters this morning then joining my siblings and parents for a weekend at the beach. Hope you have a good one. Next up: The Master Bedroom Color. It’s a good one!
I’ve been playing with color this month, too, as we choose a green for the girls’ bedroom. The Benjamin Moore interactive color chooser thingy has been a lot of fun.
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun,
Please Shine Down On Me!!
Have fun at the beach!
By the end of your painting adventure, you might just look at the paint on the wall and say, “It’s not that bad.” Took us two full years to paint everything (and the last thing painted was the first thing I claimed was going to be painted). Have fun!
Bright yellow is PERFECT for that wonderful room.
Hey, I LOVE seeing photos of your new house! That kitchen will be great, and your sunshine yellow will be beautiful. I’m so happy for you!!
I’m so excited for you, Cara! We’re painting this weekend, too. It makes such a difference as you *claim* your new space.
Oh I love that yellow! I wish I could paint my kitchen that color, but every wall of my house is currently covered with wallpaper from 1974. Oh, it’s sad and so daunting to consider removing it all. Good luck with the painting. I can’t wait to see the results! 🙂
One real joy of paint is that if you really don’t like it, you can paint over it! It doesn’t have to be a forever decision (that always helps me).
My kitchen color is Sun Shimmer. (there’s no shimmer in the paint) I love the way it makes me happy. I hope you enjoy that too.
Yellow is a great color….. but here’s a tip I learned years ago: Get several samples and paint them on the walls, and look to see them how they change throughout the day when the sun goes around. Then choose your favorite one after that exercise. It’s AMAZING how they change with the different lights of the day, and the one you thought you loved might turn hideous at mealtime or whatever.
I find it really funny that YOU would be having a crisis of color. Of all people. Go with it girl. Kill the beige!
I am also trying to figure out what to do with my beige kitchen. I tried a color, but it looked horrible with the lighting. I don’t have a lot of wall space either, but…I at least want it to look like I did something to the walls!
It looks like there’s a ton of storage in your kitchen. More space is always good!
I’ve always thought yellow was the perfect color for a kitchen. It’s so cheery and that’s exactly what I need when I bumble out of bed in the morning searching for my coffee. I’m getting ready to paint a few rooms in my house, too, and have been waffling over color choices so much that it’s making my head spin. Best of luck getting situated in the new abode!
I love the color, bright and cheerful!! I’m glad you didn’t stop blogging. Love to read your work.
I have had a similarly-tinted kitchen for the last 8 years, and I’m still in love with it. It’s really cheerful, and makes the sunshine that much more pronounced. Go with your gut…you’ve always had killer instinct. And btw, I’m another reader who has been hanging around for a couple of years, and has no intention of deserting your blog, whenever you choose to write.
I don’t find that funny or unusual b/c I have the same thing. I LOVE color. I’ve taken color theory classes and taught classes in color theory. It’s the whole reason for any of the crafty things I do. But when it comes to living inside bright colors, I chicken out. How many colors of beige can you name? I’ve had (or currently have) them on my walls. I’m a total wuss. I love that yellow. I’m so impressed w/ your daring! HA!
I love paint! If you hate it, you just paint over it — unless, of course, it’s particularly dark, But even then, it’s always fixable. I miss owning my own house and painting every room a different color — and my kitchen cabinets red!
What a nice kitchen- in any color. I am afraid of color, and tend to stick with the boring neutrals. It’s easier for me to buy new towels in different colors than to repaint! I can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the house.
I’m having a contest on my blog at http://www.maine-island-knits.blogspot.com, with a sea-themed yarn giveaway or an Amazon gift card (for non-knitters), go check it out! Contest ends Wed 7-29.
Nice to see you and your beautiful short-term beige kitchen! Congratulations to you and your family!
Your new kitchen is awesome and I love the color.
OMG! How did you pick the same color as we picked??? (O.k. different brand but close enough.)
I, otoh, am planning a full kitchen gut and remodel. (whew!) But we had to pick a kitchen color so that we could paint the room next to the kitchen this weekend coming up. (I think that line actually makes sense; it is just weird.)
Color.. o my gosh.. we just bought a new house, and the previous owners used ‘mint green’ in the family room, and various other unrelated colors throughout the house. Oh.. and crazy-ass wallpaper.. amazing house, very bad wall treatments. We are planning on painting and de-wallpapering this winter. With lots of honey-do weekends!
yay! bright happy colour to make your kitchen bright and happier (b/c with you in it how could it not be happy?)
Lucky you, I have always wanted a yellow kitchen but in my past two houses the counters have been PINK — no money to replace them, so I have gone with other colors! I just went through the yellow game at my house, for my own fiber yarn room, and ended up with BM’s Golden Honey.
