Giving Thanks

Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes, congratulations on our good news and best wishes for G. The surgery was over a week ago now and he’s doing okay. By all accounts the actual surgery, hip resurfacing, was a success, but there have been a few complications following it that have made recovery pretty hard. I hesitate to say we’ve turned a corner, but yesterday was way better than the day before. The rest of the family is still sleeping (THANK GOD!) so the jury is still out on today, but I have a better feeling about things.

It’s been a really hard last month.

I’m exhausted.

I figure this is good practice for when the baby comes. Who needs sleep, right?

I should really go back to bed, but I wanted to pop in and give thanks to all of you. And say this: hug your loved ones today. Tell them you love them and appreciate them. Say thank you.

  1. I am glad to hear the surgery went well; sorry the recovery has been tough. Hang in there, things will get better.
Belated happy birthday and congratulations on the pregnancy. This will turn out to be a wonderful year.

  2. hugging you, my loved one!

  3. was that embarrassingly sweet?
    weird?

  4. It’s so good to hear you’re all surviving. I sent a text yesterday but you must have been busy (or not received it). Been thinking of you!!!!!

  5. I am ridiculously mushy with my loved ones on a daily basis, which works for now but probably won’t go over so well in a couple of years, when the surly teen years set in. I’m glad G’s surgery was a success. Sending you a big hug! Now go take a nap. xo

  6. my sweetie had his second total knee replacement before Christmas and the recovery is tough (worse with those pesky complications) but it gets better every day – grateful to have knees to fix! G’s got a good nurse and lots of positivity around so it’ll get better and better. Glad to see you posting!

  7. Cara, my darling! I’m so sorry I’m just catching up on this and have not even wished you a happy birthday (except maybe in Facebook, but I’m feeling so over Facebook right now I might just forget about it…)
Glad all is well and hope the hip resurfacing turns out A-OK, after these first hurdles are jumped.
    XOXOXO

  8. Oh, I’m sorry that things have been so hard. I think of you so often. You don’t even know. Sending love and hugs.

  9. Wanted to say “yay” to both this and the last post. Your daughter is aobut my son’s age, and I am expecting now as well, we’re in a bit of parallel lives here–when are you due (answer is always, I think: not soon enough!)

  10. I missed your birthday post until now because I was in England with my family for Christmas and New Year. I’m glad to see the new year/decade seems to be starting out on a positive note for your family. I hope G’s recovery goes better now and the surgery works out great for him. Happy Birthday and Congratulations! Plus I’m also pregnant and due early June (and have a daughter already, mine is three and a half) so it’ll be interesting to compare experiences on that. Just had our anatomy scan yesterday. Maybe I should actually start updating my blog again…

  11. HOLY SHIT! YOU’RE PREGNANT?!!?!?! How did I miss that!!!! OMG CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now we MUST get together and celebrate!!!!!!!!!

  12. I’m so glad Georgie is doing better – it’s so true that often the recovery is the hardest part of the surgery!
I seem to have missed your b-day post, so Happy Belated Birthday and congrats on your pregnancy!

  13. It’s good to hear that the surgery went well and G is on the recovering end of it all.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I’m glad you’re beginning to feel better. I puked for half of my pregnancy and it is all the more challenging with an attention-seeking little one around. And you guys have a daddy who needs extra attention right now too. I hope Georgie’s recovery continues to trend upwards. And happy 40th!! Sounds like your decade is off on a good start!

  15. Kara, hugs to you, Georgie, Meli, and the little one you’re expecting. Life sure is real, isn’t it!!! I’m keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

  16. Glad to hear everyday seems better. Hang in there. Love to read your blog and love the pictures at the heading. Happy belated birthday.

  17. Sending hugs, and a very belated Happy Birthday to you.

  18. Always good advice. I’m glad things are looking up and G is doing better. Hope I catch up with you at that new hot yarn shop out in LI 😉

  19. Glad Georgie’s surgery went well and CONGRATS to you both on being knocked up (awesome)! Meli will love being a big sister . . . right after she gets over the shock of not being an only child. And, welcome to your 40s! It’s really not that bad.

  20. Slow on the comments, but congrats. You are a great mama the first time, and will be even better the second time around! Hooray for you!!

  21. この前見つけた副業
    最近、本業が忙しくて放置してたら

    昨日ついに我慢できなくなって朝まで生ファックやっちった!!

  22. Congratulations on your upcoming baby! I’m due in June too with number 2. We are brave women. 🙂
