915

After going through all the emails, deleting the dupes and the Russians, there are 915 entries for the contest. 915. That’s a new record, folks! WOW! Thank you all for participating!

As I was going through the entries, I thought wouldn’t it be cool to analyze the results? 915 is a pretty good sample, no? (I don’t really know anything about statistics, so this could be way off.) Kind of like the State of the Knit, as based on what we’d all like to do for the next year.

Alas, my laptop temporarily died on me this afternoon. (It’s be subsequently resurrected.) I got stuck getting out of the city for FOREVER today. Due to some more technical glitches G and I can’t be on online on our laptops at the same time. Just to write this post I had to drag myself out of bed and get on the desktop. So, anyway, I used my alone time today to get through the emails but Miss Meli started calling before I could pick the winners. Hopefully tomorrow – pray for naps. Meanwhile, I have some swatches that I washed DAYS ago that I haven’t had a chance to count and I was going to cast on for a new sweater today. Sorry to be a bummer.

Oh and here’s one piece of analysis paralysis I can share with you: No one, not one of the 915 people who entered the contest, said their goal for 2009 was to knit less.

Chew on that one awhile, why don’t ya.

  1. well, it’d be ludicrous to knit less. who would say that? πŸ™‚

  2. I hope your computer troubles are soon resolved.

  3. Knit less? Are you kidding? What kind of meds are you on? And are they legal? In the mean time, we’ll wait and take a back seat to boobie time and computer issues.

  4. Good morning!
Your analising just made me laugh to tears. Hahahaha… thank you!

  5. As a geeky research analyst/consultant, I can say that 915 comments is a great sample out of your blog readers. It’s just fine for analysis and, seriously, it sounds really cool…no, really, it does. I realize you might have been kidding but if you wanted to, I volunteer to help compile data and analyze… I know, sad, isn’t it?

  7. Maybe that’s what the Russian’s said?
915 sounds like a good sample size to me.

  8. I hate to break it to you all but there is one person out there who plans to knit less. Check out reddogknits.wordpress.com – she plans on knitting less – all for very valid reasons. I one the other hand, hope to knit just a bit more.

  9. Ooohh, content analysis of knitting data – pairing two of my favorite things! The nerd comes out.

  10. I did !! knitting less means that I have a bit of my live back, because the last year knitting helped to keep my internal balance and my head sane. I’m not thinking about quiting knitting, but no so obsessive….

  11. Yeah, what’s with the Russians?
Also, knitting less is just crazy talk.

  12. As a professional statistician, a random sample of 1000 will let you +/- 3%. So 915 is a great sample size, though these are self-selected (so a little biased). But plenty to do all kinds of cool analysis.

  13. PICAdrienne says

As your last post said, knitting through crisis works. There is always something we need peace from, whether it is the complicated return we have to do, or the person ahead of us. Life provides bits of stress for us, even when things are good. Knitting less just is not a great option. πŸ™‚

  14. Ha, too funny!
Good luck with the computer issues: I was just having laptop trouble, off to see if it’s better.
My goal was to learn to knit back backwards, and I made my first attempt tonight. I thought I was doing well until I knit back the regular way and realized my stitches were coming out mounted the wrong direction….not that I can’t deal with that, but it makes twisting the stitch in the same direction as I have been doing, difficult. Try again another day!
