Walking To New Orleans

This time, I’m walking to New Orleans.
I’m walking to New Orleans.
I’m gonna need two pair of shoes,
When I get through walking these blues,
When I get back to New Orleans.
I’ve got my suitcase in my hand.
Now, ain’t that a shame?
I’m leaving here today,
Yes, I’m going back home to stay.
Yes, I’m walking to New Orleans.
You used to be my honey
Til you spent all my money.
No use for you to cry,
I’ll see you by and by.
Cause I’m walking to New Orleans.
I’ve got no time for talking.
I’ve got to keep on walking.
New Orleans is my home.
That’s the reason why I’m goin.’
Yes, I’m walking to New Orleans.
I’m walking to New Orleans.

Georgie’s been singing this for weeks. Fats Domino. Listen to a clip here.
See you next week. Have a great weekend.

  1. My delurking of the week will be to wish you a very good time there! Can’t wait to see the pictures you’ll bring back…

  2. Have fun. And pls drink a mango daiquiri for me.

  3. Let us know what you find. I’ve never been there, and I so wish I had gone before the flood.

  4. Just delurking to say “Look out for nutria.” Just ’cause…ick.
And, ooo, piano bar at Pat O’Brien’s. Seriously. A 70-something year old woman doing all of “Bohemian Rhapsody?” So worth the dollar tip.

  5. I learnt to knit to that song, sat in Starbucks on a morning off work, fervently flicking through a copy of Stitch N Bitch. Bliss.

  6. You’re gone again! Miss you. HAVE FUN!

  7. Hope you have a great time.

  8. have a great time — eat lots of beignets

  9. *waves at Cara from across town*

  10. Jenny in Jersey says

Never been that far South….but I LOVE Fats Domino. He sang some of the first music I learned to dance to…like when Blueberry Hill first came out. Ooooo, dating myself. Vintage or is that?classic.

  11. you said we should de-lurk so i figure i should. plus after i saw your pic of the capybara i had to comment. i saw one at the austin zoo and fell in love. they’re like a huge gunia pig. let me know if you’re about more pics. hope all is going well. this is short cause of a mishap earlier in the week with a very sharp blade that resulted in stitches.

  12. I am also choosing today to “delurk”. I have been admiring your blog from afar for a while now. Aside from the clever posts, I especially admire your rotating photo header at the top. The photography in it is beautiful!
Check out my brand new blog (just posted really early this morning) Designer Knits

  13. Un-lurking. Not a lurker. I’m not the creepy dude at the end of the alley. Don’t know what time you turn the lamp off at night. Dig the lyrics, can’t wait to check it out at home where I have a computer with sound.
    And
Where is that random log cabin blanket that I still think of? Did you think we would forget? I am not distracted by knee-highs.

  14. My man Seib recently spent a week in N’awlins working the Celebrity Poker Showdown-as if Celebrity Poker Showdown isn’t surreal enough…he found it unfinished, damaged, with a thin veneer of gaiety slapped on for the tourists, like the city is really trying to be itself again. He is, however, a bit of a cynic..gotta love him!
Can’t wait for your observations next week

  15. don’t miss the Garden District needleshop! and watch out for the mosquitos. They’ve been killer this summer.

  16. Weekly de-lurk as promised: Have fun! x

  17. Love your blog–come visit me. Had a very interesting discussion on the post 9/11 clean up versus the Katrina clean up, last night at book club—-gives one pause to think.
