This little piggy

went to the market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had roast beef,
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went…
“Wee wee wee” all the way home…

TO JUMP IN HER NEW SOCKS!!!!!

Yarn: Regia Cotton Surf – color no. 5410
Needles: Addi #1s, 16″ and 24″

Start to finish 11 days. A pair of socks. I’m so, so proud. I’d like to thank Meredith, because without seeing her superfantastic socks I wouldn’t have gotten off my ass to figure out how to use two circulars. Seriously. I took one look at her purple pair and ordered the yarn straight up. I’d also like to thank the kind person who put together these pages: Socks on Two Circulars and Sock Tips. Oh and this video for figuring out kitchener stitch. And, of course, all you people out in blogland who kept talking about socks, socks, socks and I was all like yeah whatever. OH MY GOD! I love them!!!! (And G thinks I’m a genius once again!)

The two circular thing really saved me. Honestly. I tried to do socks on dpns – I got as far as turning the heel and starting the foot then promptly lost a dpn. I will now knit every sock on two circulars. I can’t wait to start my next pair! I’m going to do the retro rib from IK in a super cool retro Koigu color. I started to cast on last night but got too tired. Today for sure.

And because I’m feeling so, so happy, I offer you a rose….

When I saw this yesterday, I immediately thought of Claudia.

I’m not sure if the majority of people will read this – Schmucklines hasn’t updated my most popular feed since around noon on Tuesday and I’ve posted about 491 times since then. But I don’t care – I MADE A PAIR OF SOCKS!

Comments

  1. The socks look awesome! I am loving the purple stripes. I’m also loving that rose picture. Hope you don’t mind, but I think that needs to be the new background on my computer. =) Seeing that might make up for the fact that there are no windows in my office.

  2. SO CUTE! I love the purple stripey goodness.
For what it’s worth, bloglines is particularly sucky on my atom.xml feed too. It updates several hours after all the others (which are pretty quick). It’s really annoying, because if you preview the feed, it’s updated, but the “sniffer” that bloglines must use doesn’t seem to detect the update. If you figure out a way to solve this, please share!

  3. Holy Moley!! Look at how those stripes match! You make me want to pick up the DPNs.

  4. Woohoo!! The great thing about that darn Bloglines (you should be screaming at them!) is I get to be first to tell you that the socks ROCK! It’s great you figured out the best way to ‘do’ sock! You rock, too!!

  5. And a very beautiful pair of socks they are too. Quick go make another!

  6. Gorgeous, gorgeous socks and then a wonderful rose! Yum! I knit a teensy bit on two circs during a class in April — it wasn’t on the schedule, so I kind of “learned” by accident. Very cool, but I haven’t had reason to use it since. Perhaps you’ll have a pair going so I can see it again, and I should start a pair (‘twould be my first) while I’m there.

  7. So if you love socks on a circular you should try 2 socks at the same time…it is great stuff as when you are done you have …a …..wait for it….PAIR!! I don’t do socks any other way anymore.
Love your blog and check it daily…@!

  8. Great socks, I would never want to take them off.
I’ve been having the same problem with Bloglines, they need to fix it. I’m missing out on posts from my favorite blogs and I’m missing readers on mine!

  9. yeah, bloglines is jacked, but i figured you must have updated… glad i stopped by — they look gorgeous! and clapotis looks so oceany that i am revived. beautiful work as usual!

  10. Your socks are wonderful. Sock knitting is my favorite.
    Sorry about the Bloglines issues.

  11. The socks are fabulous!!! Don’t you just love that yarn. I’m frantically trying to finish a pair for my husband, but I’m not letting him see yours…mine don’t match as nicely like yours do! Knit on….I love socks too and two circulars are great. I’ve also used the site you referenced. Take care and I’ll be checking in again. Margene sent me 🙂 OH and the rose is just super!

  12. Yea!!! Your socks look fantastic and perfectly matched. Excellent!!

  13. awesome socks!! the stripe-matching is insanely perfect. they are adorable; your piggies must be happy.

  14. Lovely socks! I want to make a pair just like them. :)) Nice rose too!

Sorry about the bloglines woes. Hope it gets straightened out soon.

  20. Hey trickster! how’d you get the stripes to match? they are lovely and so are your photos of them!
ps. the same thing happened to me and Bloglines …. don’t know why or what changed to fix it

  21. They’re so cute! Next up for you: one circ. So much better than two.

  22. I am so jealous – I love your socks. I took a sock class a couple of weeks ago and totally fell in love with socks (which I wasn’t expecting to happen. When people blogged about socks, I always thought … “Don’t these people have something better to do” but now I have seen the light and am addicted). My socks aren’t finished because there is so much other knitting (& reading) going on. I am so in love with socks that I stalk Knitpixie all the time for new Knitterly Things sock yarn a la Knit and Tonic. I love love love socks.

  23. email bloglines and ask them to reset your feed -the same thing happened to me last week. It took two tries, but it is working again.
Gorgeous, gorgeous rose. Wicked cool socks.

  24. wow, they look fantastic! great job!

  25. Those socks totally RAWK. Holy crap, that colorway is gorgeous. Love love love them! and the flower, of course. Yer pikshurs sure are purdy. hee.

  26. See, that was the color I was trying to dye my sister’s yarn.
    Ooooooo. Ahhhhhhhh.

  27. Those socks are PERFECT! You should love them. I know that I would be gazing lovingly at them for days had I made them. Great job matching those stripes.

  28. Gorgeous socks – I totally fell in love with socks, too, when I mastered the two-circ method. I have to give you major props for not only mastering the socks but matching your stripes PERFECTLY. That’s incredible. Lovely color, too, I might have to look up some of that Regia when I hit the end of my yarn diet in the fall. Yummy.

  29. Your (3) posts just showed up on Bloglines…same thing happened to me about a month ago.
    Lovely socks!

  30. Wow, that Margene — she types, people listen!! I know I already commented — but you’ve UPDATED, too! Woo. Let’s hope the wrinkle’s been ironed out. (And it’s worth coming back to look at those lovely socks again. They really are so nice and perfect!)

  31. Woot, Cara, purpley SOCKS! Me wonders if I shall ever have a PAIR. I’m nearing in on the toe of my first individual sock….Pair? Don’t know. Time will only tell. There’s another incredibly gorgeous photo. Damn, girl!

  32. Bloglines just gave me three posts for you. Maybe the problem is fixed?

  33. I just found your blog, and it’s really fun! I love your socks. I’m a sock knitting addict, and I also use 2 circulars. I love how your stripes even match! Very Professional I must say!
Also want to say how much I love your photographs. They are gorgeous! Wish I could take pictures like that.

  34. Fabuloso!

  35. They Rock! Great job lady. Get this – I just taught myself how to do socks on ONE circular needle. Crazy. Totally crazy.

  37. Those are the best socks EVER! I’m gonna need to be finding me some that yarn!

  49. those are such gorgeous socks (purple fiend here lol)…but *sobbing* regia has discontinued the yarn and i didn’t have much luck trying to google for someone who might still have it in stock…figures eh?
i consoled myself yesterday with two skeins of blue moon ‘socks that rock’ in amethyst…only hope mine turn out half as nicely as yours did 🙂

  50. Those are GORGEOUS socks! I keep wanting to make some, but it’s so hot right now that the thought of anything wool measured on my feet is a baaaad idea…so, duh, make them in cotton 🙂 Now I really have no excuse whatsoever, not even the hatred of DPNs…
