Things are absolutely crazy around here! I’m back to work full steam and I’m finding it hard to juggle work and baby. When I’m working I want to be with Meli and when I’m goofing off with Meli I’m worried about all my work. I’m sure lots of you moms know my dilemma.

We bought Meli a new toy the other day – an exersaucer thingie. She even test drove a bunch in the store and this one seemed to be her favorite. While I was trying to do some work today, I moved the toy into the office. But she was so funny I videotaped her instead of working. Oh well!

I’m moving right along on a knitting project that I’m really enjoying. I want so bad to tell you about it, but I can’t seem to find the time to take pictures of it and really get down to blogging the project. In the meantime, I knit on it when I can and write blog posts in my head.

We’re heading into Fall and I couldn’t be more delighted, although with two family weddings and lots of jobs lined up I’m very overwhelmed. Weekends are booked straight through to November. I wish I was kidding.

See you all soon I hope! Thanks for reading!

  1. She’s a DOLL!! How fun to watch her have fun!

  2. Thanks for making me smile on a day when I’m feeling mostly pain. That was just lovely. I have to tell you that I was a working mom and I had the working-mom guilts the whole time my daughter was growing up. I don’t see any way around it except to quit work and that’s just not a good reason to quit working. Meli is and will continue to flourish and grow and be fantastic. You’re lucky you have such a great spouse! I think the only thing working moms can do is learn to live w/ that guilt because I don’t know a single one who didn’t have it!

  3. Glad to see you posting 🙂 Love the baby and I certainly understand your delimna. g

  4. Those things have gotten even better than when my baby was a baby and he’s only 5! Our cats used to stand on their hind legs on the outside and play with the toys while our youngest was in the saucer. Apparently it was great for both human and fur babies!

  5. Love the video! Every one of my friends with a baby – Every One! – has one of those things and the chitlins universally love them. In fact, I kind of want one, too! There could be like different knitting and crochet stations around the perimeter, rock music, and scrolling photos of my husband in the thing that spins around. Yeah!

  6. What lovely little happy squeaks and squeals! She looks like she is having a ball 🙂

  7. Welcome to the Working Mom World – we are happy to have you join us. It is tough that is the truth, but somehow we all make it work. I was blessed and had a husband who worked nights so was home during the day with the kids while I was at work and then I was home at night. Even though we are now divorced, he is still parent on duty during the day and I am so relieved I don’t have to send my kids to day care.
Take care – she is beautiful!

  8. hahaha, i LOVE all her dinosaur-type noises 🙂 and you, “are you having fun?” i’ve been there! sometimes it’s hard to tell if they’re really loving it or are like “get me out of this thing now!”

  9. Miss Meli, you have a big fan in my 6 month old son. He watched your video and just chatted right along with you! You’d squeal and he’d answer.
P.S. He thinks your Exersaucer rocks! Obviously you got the one with a few more bells and whistles, but his still “RULZ” cause his has a sheep on it! 🙂

  10. I SO know what you mean. When my older child was born I was in graduate school and I never stopped fretting about schoolwork when I was with her. Now that I have two and I’m working (part time) it’s even harder to balance. The thing that I try to hold on to is that in many ways I’m a better parent because of the professional interaction I get at work. Glad to see you’re holding it together!

  11. OMG, Cara, how can you get anything done? I’d have to play with Meli all day! It’s so fun watching them discover the world around them! And I loved how she was keeping an eye on you too… making sure Mommy’s watching!

  12. Work = good!!
    Dilemma, not so good!
I must confess I haven’t read your blog from day one. I am not sure what it is that you do? I am guessing photography?

  13. I wouldn’t be able to work either if I had this gorgeous baby in the same room with me! Meli gets cuter every day.

  14. I want one of those saucers! For me!
Thank you for sharing Meli’s joy.

  15. All Hail the Exersaucer! Those things are the BEST. And it’s such a milestone when you can pop the kid in there for a little while and get something done!
I’ll be thinking of you as you start the struggle to be a “working mom” (hate that term. All moms work. Hmph.) It’s tough, and the guilt never goes away, but newsflash: you’d feel guilty if you didn’t work, too. Guilt is an essential part of motherhood, I’ve found.
It’s a juggling act, but as with all new things, it gets easier as you get used to a new routine. Hang in there!

  16. That is too adorable! She’s really loving that thing! I loved watching her eyes light up when she saw the toys! And her squeal! So much fun!!

  17. wow, look at her move her hands around those things! Her motor control is awesome! Seriously, she’ll be cabling in no time! 🙂

  18. We don’t call that thing the “circle of fun” for nothing!
My husband and I used to spend hours watching our kids play in there and postulating what our “circles of fun” would have–wet bar, video game console, knitting needles…you get the idea–
What’s in YOUR circle of fun?

  19. LOVE the exersaucer. Love.
Sounds like you are doing better with the juggling act than many moms I know! Do you find that being able to work from home helps? That’s my plan for the fall.
And sorry it sounds like we’ll miss you at Rhinebeck. 🙁

  20. Meli is absolutely adorable, and what a cute video! We’re due in November (Nov. 2) and once the baby is a bit older, I was thinking of hiring you to take shots of him and his big sister. We’re just south of Philly. If you could email me and let me know what your average fees are, I’d appreciate it!

  21. OMGoodness….Meli is just TOO cute!!!

  22. What a relief finding our first exersaucer was! And it’s really good for Meli too; quite stimulating. What a cutie. She’s growing awfully quickly!
