Incense, Twine & Candles

My Rhinebeck post will be more boring than most. I swear to you I packed a camera, but somehow it never made it out of the suitcase. I bought no yarn, but regret not buying yarn at Briar Rose to make the gorgeous Casino Shawl they had on display. I can’t stop thinking about this shawl – I’ll be knitting it very soon. I bought some really nice fiber. And I had the most fantastic time with friends, old and new.

I got home from Ann’s tonight and am physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, fiberly, laughingly EXHAUSTED. I want nothing more than to snuggle in my own bed with my favorite boy and sleep for days. Then I want to wake up and see all of your fantastic Rhinebeck posts with pictures galore. Be sure to leave me your links – I’m serious. I NEVER took my camera out of my suitcase. I need to see your pictures.

I will leave you with one thing: the Soundtrack of Rhinebeck 2006. I made a two volume CD for the car ride – it’s deliciously GOOFY with something for everyone. We might have laughed more about these songs than anything else all weekend. I’ve got a couple extra copies – leave me a comment telling me you want it – and hopefully a link to your pictures – and I’ll pick a couple of winners randomly. Trust me – this group of songs had us laughing our asses off.

  1. Great soundtrack! I took pics and posted a long post. It was great seeing you. Spinout ’07?

  2. haha, great soundtrack!
it was hard to drag out my camera and take pictures. i totally know how you felt. there was so mcuh going on that i didn’t want to miss anything!

  3. I’d love to be in the drawing for one of your CD sets – what a fun selection of oldies but goodies!! Alas, I can’t link you to my photos, as I live in the deep south and did not have the opportunity to attend Rhinebeck… sigh.

  4. It sounds great, and I DID take at least some pictures!
    http://chappysmom.typepad.com/bookworm/2006/10/whacko.html

  5. I brought along my husband to carry the yarn and take the pictures, so check out the blog over the next few days for the pix.

  6. OMG that shawl is divine! Please stop posting such delicious patterns. I have shawl patterns that i want to knit coming out of my ears and here you are posting another one.

  7. I am glad you had a great weekend….I LOVE those songs, everyone of them…we must be around the same age…the Carpenters, I haven’t thought of them forever…thanks for sharing the list 😉

  8. I’m with Sue (in the deep south that is) Glad you’re exhausted, means you had fun!

  9. I only bought one skein of yarn at Rhinebeck and I’ve been getting all sorts of grief for it. I’m glad I wasn’t entirely alone!

  10. I wasn’t at Rhinebeck either, but on the off chance that that doesn’t disqualify, please count me in. What an awesome mix!

  11. I want it – do I ever! How come I can identify with every song on that list. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to Rhinebeck but I’m dreaming about it for next year…

  12. Well, I posted some sheep pics that might be fun. (You’ve got to scroll past a few boring construction pictures.) Sorry I was a total loser and didn’t say “hi”. Sometimes this shyness thing is a pain in the a**.
Your kneehighs looked even more fabulous in person!

  13. Great to see you! I never made it to the Briar Rose booth — next time!

  14. I definitely want the soundtrack! Can I get in on this without Rhinebeck pictures? I can’t wait to see what we got! xox, J

  15. OH MY GOD I want that soundtrack!!!! I knew we had a lot in common but that music rocks!
“Yes I like Piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain… I’m not much into health food, I am into champagne…”

  16. You’re some smart cookie!!! Got to the Fold on Sat. at around 11:30 am. no skinny sock yarn left. feh!
Consoled myself with Briar Rose stuff, Skaska stuff (very teeny yarn. 2-ply, like knitting with thread), and somebody’s soy silk lace yarn. ya think i bought enough?

  17. Delurking to compliment your fantastic mix. Looks like great music for a trip like Rhinebeck, although sadly I didn’t go and have no pictures to share. Thanks for the link to the Casino shawl; I haven’t seen that before, and it’s beautiful.

  18. I may be dating myself, but that soundtrack looks like it could have been plucked from my formative years! Carly Simon, Rod Stewart, Capt and Tenille, Neil Diamond….. the memories. Thanks for the walk down memory lane :o)

  19. I’m so sad I didn’t get to go to Rhinebeck…next year for sure! and the sound track is the best, just the kind of songs that get you in the groove for a road trip.

  20. rephrase: Most of the songs had us laughing our asses off.
Barely M. had me throwing up in my mouth a little bit.

  21. I was a little light on the camera action myself. I blame the fiber. But, hey, you can see my meager pictures on my most recent post.
I, too, would be interested in the Rhinebeck Soundtrack!

  22. Sure, count me in on the contest for the CD. The songs would make me remember you guys and all the fun. I’ve got some pictures up today, too.

  23. So cool to finally meet you, and now I don’t feel bad at all for not having taken one single picture. I would have lost the camera 😉

  24. I love the Carpenters, Barry Manilow, and Neil Diamond. I have strange taste in music. Anyway, I’d love a copy of the cd. Pics are up on my blog. I passed you about a kajillion times at the fest but didn’t introduce myself. I always feel so awkward doing that.
I bought Briar Rose yarn for the Casino Shawl. Saw it on Saturday, couldn’t stop thinking about it. Went back on Sunday and bought the yarn. They may have been the nicest, friendliest vendors at the fest, and that’s saying something!

  25. That soundtrack has me chuckling already. I can just see popping that in the CD player without telling my fiance what it is on our road trip up to Michigan next weekend. I think it’d only reinforce his belief that I’m the silliest woman he’s ever met.

  26. Jenny in Jersey says

Oooo….beautiful shawl. I am just learning to knit lace and am in deep already. Can’t wait to see your progress on this one.

  27. Okay, I wasn’t at Rhinebeck (I’ll be way closer next year, New Hampshire vs. Virginia) but I was there every Friday night watching the TV when the Partridge Family ran back to back with the Brady Bunch. Thanks for the flashback!

  28. I missed the blogger meetup, but I’d love a copy of your soundtrack. Our soundtrack was three children muttering they were bored and hollering, “Are we there yet? I have to pee.”
Sounds as though you had a good time. I wish I had seen your shawl in person as it was really pretty in some of the photos I’ve seen.

  29. Yes, please! I’d love to be in the drawing for one of the copies! I, sadly, am without pictures as my camera refused to cooperate. Hope that doesn’t disqualify me from the drawing.
Wish I could have found you all at Rhinebeck, but I was defeated by the crowds. Always next year though.

  30. I want the Rhinebeck soundtrack, and here are my pictures:
    http://www.monstermuleys.com/
    Seriously. A really horny crowd.
    Rise and shine!

  31. What a fun soundtrack! Do put me in the drawing. My Rhinebeck post (includes you with the Robin wheel and your knee socks): http://woolybuns.typepad.com/woolybuns/2006/10/saturday_rhineb.html
plus my Rhinebeck photo gallery: http://woolybuns.typepad.com/photos/rhinebeck_2006/index.html

  32. I forgot to leave my URL for photos.

  33. I had the same problem, just too much excitement for pictures. I did manage to take a few, but you’ve already seen them when you stopped by my blog yesterday.
I love the Rhinebeck Mix! Great fun!

  34. what a great soundtrack! i can totally imagine playing that one and laughing hysterically. 🙂

  35. Ooh, add me to the list of random winners…maybe I could experience Rhinebeck vicariously through your music. 🙂

  36. Oh, hey, do you want to get together sometime while I’m in NY? I really enjoyed meeting you too!

  37. Another comment… if you want full-sized copies of any of my pictures, just send me an e-mail. (I shrink them 50% before uploading to flickr, and then use an even smaller version on my blog.)

  38. What a great set of tunes! I’m laughing just hearing them in my head now.

  39. Talk about musical blasts from the past! You relived my entire child/teen years in two CDs.

  40. Wow, no yarn purchased?! Great restraint!
I’m glad you put out a call for links. I didn’t get to go and am experiencing Rhinebeck vicariously through Bloggers.

  41. Born to Run, baby… I’m missing my New York Groove — BIG TIME!
I’m runnin’ my butt off today and will be for a few — the price to pay — but miss you, thinking of you, listening to my soundtrack when I can, it’ll be touch-and-go this week. Mwah.

  42. ooh sleep sleep! that was me yesterday so emotionally tired! it was so good to see you again!! i LOVE your mix!! i didn’t take pics, but wrote a little about my Rheinback experience… next year… oh yes next year!

  43. Got no pictures, since I WASN’T THERE, but I absolutely love the soundtrack. BUT, you aren’t old enough for some of those songs…….

  44. If one doesn’t shop AT ALL, one has nothing else to do except take pictures.
    Just sayin’.
    😉

  45. I think I have a picture of your back on my Rhinebeck post. It was nice to briefly shake your hand!

  46. Love the mixes! Here is the link to my (few) pictures from Rhinebeck.

  47. I actually carried the camera around with me all day and still didn’t take a picture (except for one of a cool vine growing up a wall) and I haven’t had a chance to post yet and show off the booty, but I sure would like that mix.

  48. Can I just say that I sat here at my computer and sang each and every song (but only in my head. I would probably scare my co-workers if I started singing the Pina Colada song alound!). Alas, I have no pictures from Rhinebeck, as I wasn’t able to go. Maybe next year. But I’d still LOVE a copy of your mix!

  49. I highly recommend knitting the Casino Shawl! I was one of the test knitters on it and it’s a fabulous knit!!!

  50. Sadly, I had no camera. It was great meeting you in person and seeing those knee highs. So f-ing awesome. Seraphim and your cardigan were also lovely. Your socks caught the attention of my wacky Irish mother-in-law and auntie-in-law as they thought I was meeting with a cult of sock knitters (sorta true). They were hunting me down like an animal because my son Liam wanted me. I hoped to have a kid-free day, but oh well, we had fun together. Liam thought the sheep testicles were hilarious. I wish there had been more time to talk and knit with everyone, but next year maybe. I printed out the knee high pattern and plan to give it a try with one of the many skeins of STR that I scored at 10am. So glad I did not wait until later when the supply dwindled and the line got huge. If you ever host a NJ knitter meet-up/yarn crawl, evening out, or whatever, let me know! Great soundtrack by the way. Maybe for Sounds of Rhinebeck 2007 you could fit in some early Cher. Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves perhaps.

  51. It was good to see you. I didn’t take many photos either–I was too busy having fun.
I love your roadtrip music–especially the placement of the Beastie Boys between barry Manilow and the Carpenters–the horror!

  52. Just wanted to say hi! Nice meeting you this weekend and thanks for organizing the blogger meetup! It was crazy but So. Much. Fun. 🙂

  53. Bad Bad Leroy Brown LIVE???? It doesn’t get any better than that!

  54. oh my gosh..i WANT that SOUNDTRACK! it is amazing..i wish i had pictures to share..unfortunately..my rhinebeck trip is somewhere off in the future..as in, i can’t see it yet..but SOMEDAY! and wow..well..i’m glad you had fun..seriously..you had me with the theme to little house on the prairie..

  55. You are among the many that I just didn’t get a chance to meet. I did have a camera but sure didn’t take many pictures. Do count me in on a chance at those CDs…your choices are just so fun!

  56. Your soundtrack is brill. I’m LMAO just contemplating it. x0x0x0x0x0

  57. It was great to see you and that meetup was hot. I was overwhelmed. Thank you. Also thanks for the soundtrack songs. I think I’ll email it to my daughter who’s in college and ask her to make it for me. She doesn’t have anything better to do does she?

  58. Pick me.
(I shall not beg. I just want it so bad.)

  59. Great soundtrack! I’d have pics if I could have gone. I’m living through everyone else.

  60. We really enjoyed the CD’s. We listened to #1 on the way there and #2 on the way back. It was perfect. Thanks.

  61. What a funny pair of CDs! Sounds like y’all had a great trip!
    Here’s one picture of you:
    http://thepurloinedletter.blogspot.com/2006/10/rhinebeck.html

  62. Please include me in your random drawing for your 2006 soundtrack – does it show my age that I know each song and can remember the words!?!

  63. hey cara! for some reason, your right margin is all wonky 🙁 (i can’t see all of your fabulous photos!!) i think i just sent in a submission for Yarnival; i plan on taking 15 minutes this week to figure out exactly what this “Yarnival” is. When i do, i’ll link to it, i promise. (somewhat of a dork, am i.)
