EXCLUSIVE! EXCLUSIVE! EXCLUSIVE!

That is until you see it somewhere else. Just remember where you saw it FIRST. (I joke! I’m joking my friends!)

Today is La’s Birthday, so I thought I’d give some stuff away!!!

Introducing….drumroll please….

G-ROCKS AND JANUARY ONE

Two BRAND NEW COLORWAYS from Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock. THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE until sometime in the New Year so please don’t bother the Blue Moon folks. As soon are they are available, I will let you know. And the best part? Part of the proceeds from the sale of G-Rocks will go to fight Skin Cancer!!! [Ed note: this was my error. $2.00 per skein will go to fight Skin Cancer.] THANK YOU BLUE MOON! You know I love you! Again, these colors are not available to the public yet – when they are I will certainly let you know.

BUT!!

You can win them here. (You knew that was coming….)

You didn’t think I was going to let the birthday pass without a giveaway did you? Silly, silly! Winners will receive one skein each of G-Rocks and January One (Lightweight Socks That Rock), one of my beloved Orange Chibis (god I love these needles so much!), a box of my Yarn Cards and three Mini-Soaks. I’m a complete Soak convert, so I thought I’d pass on the love.

How do you win? Here we go.

I’m currently knitting what will most likely be the last sock I knit this year. I want you to guess which sock I’m knitting. Here are the clues:

1) It is a MATE to a single sock already knit.
2) I may or may not have knit the first sock sometime this year.
3) It may or may not be a pattern I have knit before.
4) It may or may not be knit out of Socks That Rock.
5) All of the first socks have been featured on the blog, on my foot.
6) There are SIX possible socks that it could be.

But only one is the right answer. TELL ME THE PATTERN, YARN & COLORWAY IF APPLICABLE. Leave your guess in the comments. Comments will close on December 31, 10 AM EST. One guess per person. There will be SIX winners – the first three people to get the correct answer will win. Then three winners will be chosen at random. Winners will be announced at (or close to) December 31, 11:59 PM EST.

Happy Birthday TO ME!

Comments

  1. I’m so bad at these-so a guess for Heat Wave Sock(s)? This is the first year I’ve been reading before your birthday! I know on New Year’s Eve, i’ll be thinking “3,2, 1 Happy Birthday!”

  2. How about the magic Sock Hop Knee Highs?

  3. Um. I have no idea but I want that yarn. NOW!

  4. Wave yarn in my face and I forget all my manners. Congratultions for having a sock yarn named after you! Now we can say you’re a stRock Star!

  5. You do know how to throw a party!

  6. i’m thinking jawalker???

  7. Did you ever finish those Potamus socks? Hmmmm. That’s my guess, the Potamus socks in STR Sunstone. And Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick. Yeah.
By the way, congrats on having gorgeous yarn named in your and G’s honor! It really is stunningly beautiful.

  8. My money is on the first Koigu Knee Sock you wrote about in September

  9. No idea about the socks! I haven’t been reading the blog long enough.
Anyway, I’m assuming your birthday is January 1 (duh). That’s my birthday too! Did you know it’s the least common birthday in the US? Pretty cool huh?

  10. Congrats on the yarn being named for you two! Very nice colors. My guess is going to be: Socks That Rock yarn inHot Flash colorway inJayWalkers pattern.

  11. I’m guessing the STR sunstone Pomatomus.
What a great way to celebrate your birthday!!!

  12. Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs.

  13. I’m guessing Socks that Rock — Pebble Beach (featured in August), with the funky purl row near the toe.
Your yarn photography is magnificent (as is your knitting)! I’m a few inches into a short-row fair isle sweater that I found when I wanted to do the short-row stripe one I first saw on your blog. Couldn’t get the pattern so easily (I have it now), and got this idea in my head about a sweater with short-rows. So I wound up starting the Short-Row Fair Isle from Loop-d-Loop, which is a little crazy, since I’ve only been knitting for about a year. Thanks for the inspiration!

  14. My guess is Sock Hop American Pie knee highs. I love your namesake yarns…just gorgeous!

  15. I’m going to have to go with the STR Pomatomus in Sunstone. Just looking back at all of your socks wants me to run home and make some!

  16. My guess is Socks That Rock Lightweight Pomatomus in the Sunstone colorway.
That is really cool of Blue Moon Fiber Arts. Congrats!

  17. I feel like it was a knee high. Of STR, but I wouldn’t know the colorway if it bit me on the nose. I love that you have colorways named after you and your beloved! I will have to get them and put them next to my “Lucy” colorway. Then I’ll only need “Harlotty” to have the complete set.
    Happy, happy birthday week!

  18. 1. Happy Birthday to you!
    2. Wish I hadn’t spent time “looking for the answer” and just guessed, b/c now there are 13 commments and before, just 6….boo hoo.
    3. Congrats on the sock colors & names.
    4. I vote Jaywalker–no idea about colors….

  19. Hot Flash jaywalker of course! I mean, pink is my favorite color and yours as well? I saw your pink wedding shoes and knew that pink HAD to be your favorite color! Oh yeah, and the Tahiti colorway roving your spun up inspired me to get my own from Spunky Hats! BEAUTIFUL STUFF!!

  20. Happy almost birthday!
I think it’s the sock-hop knee highs. In the American pie colorway.
Those were gorgeous…if those aren’t the ones, then you should finish those anyway, they were too pretty and fabulous.

  21. My guess is:
The Embossed Leaves Sock in Koigu #P704.

  22. I’m going to guess its a Jaywalker on STR.
    Happy Birthday!

  23. I bet it is the Big Fat Greek Socks! if I had a second guess I would say the Toe up socks. But you are in colorful mood these days 🙂

  24. I think it’s Pomatomus in STR Sunstone. So that’s my guess.
Very cool, by the way – you finally have your own STR colorway! It’s about time! And it’s is also very cool that the proceeds from G-Rock will go to fight Skin Cancer. I think I may have to buy a couple of skeins once it becomes available.

  25. I’m going with the toe up, STR in Pebble Beach. But I really hope it’s the MBFGs…I would love to see them finished. In reviewing your socks, I’m just so taken with the colors. You have to love STR.

  26. I’m guessing it is a mate to a single sock and that is as far as I can go!?

  27. Those little Soak packages look like condoms. 😉

  28. Jaywalkers:Socks That Rock yarn: Hot Flash
    4 more days! Happy happy!

  29. sorry forgot to say…
    1. Congrats on the colorway!
    2. the PINK jawalkers (sorry not sure what #)

  30. I’m gonna go with:
Jaywalkers in STR Hot Flash. 🙂

  31. I’m so blinded by your pretty new knee highs that I’ve got them on the brain. BUT I’m going with Jaywalkers, Socks That Rock, some color I can’t think of now.
Happy Birthday! And happy STR colorway!

  32. The Koigu knee high, color 1160 and P214? Happy Birthday :o)

  33. I think it’s the Koigu Knee Sock from September, in Koigu, a deliciously pink and brown colorway.
LOVE the G-Rocks! that is so awesome!
I’m loving the Soak too…smells so delicious.

  34. I’m going with Socks That Rock in the Sunstone colorway and the Pomatomus pattern. I love that colorway! Happy early birthday to you!

  35. STR Hot Flash jaywalkers?

  36. happy birthday to you!!
yay 2006! it ended on a high note…i’m so happy for you.
i’ll hazard a guess…how about the popatomus in that gorgeous semisolid (it was yellow, wasn’t it?) i started my own pair after i saw yours?!

  37. It’s a Jaywalker, STR, Hot Flash. I hope I’m allowed to play 🙂 – the cards are worth entering a contest… fushur.

  38. I hope I’m right 🙂 Sock Hop Knee Highs. Blue Heaven colorway

  39. hb cara!
i am guessing the pinkish kiogu kneesock with the brown cuff, heel and toe…maybe?
    thanks for your help today.
hope you have a great bday.

  40. That’s fantastic about the skin cancer donation. Dale has a mole on his face that has to come off and I’m very nervous about the whole thing. Love the new colors – congratulations!

  41. Is it the Koigu knee sock from this past fall?
How awesome that all the proceeds from G-Rocks go to fight skin cancer? Go yarn go!

  42. I’m probably wrong, but I am guessing the Sock Hop (in the American Pie colorway) knee socks in that knee sock pattern you posted on your blog.

  43. Awesome colors! I’m going to guess the second sock will be the Sock Hop Knee Highs in Blue Heaven – because we all know you can’t get enough of the knee highs!

  44. Right away, I’m looking at the picture and I see those little vial-like things and then you’re talking about G-love and proceeds and skin cancer and I thought you were giving away little sunscreen samples. ; ) Soakin’ up the sunscreen! Really, though? I’m going to have to find some SOAK around here.
    Woohoooo, it’s birthday time.

  45. Happy Birthday Cara (four days early)! I’m a January baby too! (the 6th)!
    I’m guessing STR Hotflash Jaywalkers.
    Congrats on the personalized colorways!

  46. Being at home with the Biscuit these past few days has worn out my guessing muscles. However, my powers of ESP seem to be pinging loud and clear, because JUST THIS MORNING I wondered to myself when BMFA was going to name a colorway for you! Only I thought it would be blues, for some reason. It’s beautiful, naturally.

  47. woohoo! Thanks for the birthday shout-out!
What an awesome honor to have such beautiful yarn named after you. Of course, with all the STR yarn you buy, you’ve probably already put all their children through college, so that’s the least they could do!
I can’t wait to see who wins the contest, and what the right answer is. As for me, I’m totally clueless, but you already knew that.
Happy Birthday to me!…and you in 4 days!

  48. Hot Flash STR Jaywalkers. And happy birthday in advance!

  49. wow! another cara colorway (I mean, prove it all night is yours too, really) and a george colorway! woohoo! they’re both fab!
my guess is… the second purple koigu knee sock? hrm!

  50. Happy Birthday!
And it could be a knee high but I will say Pomatomus in STR Sunstone.

  51. American Pie Knee Highs in Sock Hop

  52. Koigu Knee Sock, first sock pictured September 13, ribbing color 1160, body of sock color P214.

  53. Hot Flash STR jaywalkers is what i am choosing!!

  54. Oooooh, I’m in LOVE with the January One colorway!! It’s gorgeous….so I really hope I’m right when I guess the Koigu Knee Sock?!?! Please please please be right! And if I’m not right, I hope I’m lucky enough to be randomly picked!!! And happy early birthday to you!!

  55. Since you just finished the other pair, I bet you’re on a Knee High kick again. So the Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs.

  56. i just spent way too much time trying to figure this out! i’m still not sure but i’m guessing sock hop american pie knee highs.

  57. Surely no more Jaywalkers 🙂
I’m going for embossed leaves in koigu p704

  58. Jaywalker, STR lightweight….. moonstone?

  59. Socks That Rock, Jaywalker, Hot Flash

  60. Sock Hop American, me thinks!

  61. These are my guesses:
Pomotomus in Blue Moon: Dutch Canyon,
    Hot Flash Jaywalkers,
Embossed Leaves Sock in Koigu #P704,
    Jaywalker in Panzanite,
Walking on Sunshine Socks, Trekking XXL Crazy Strips Color 38,
    And your Retro Rib socks.
I just did a quick run through of your entries tagged with “Socks”, so I probably missed a finished mate. That was better than filling out my ACT forms. :]

  62. There’s absolutely no way I’ll win, because I never do, but hope springs eternal, and I so love those colorways. So… I pick the Koigu Knee Socks in colors 1160 and P214.

  63. I’m going for Socks That Rock, Pomatomus, Sunstone. Gorge new colours by the way!

  64. STR – Sunstone, Pomatomus pattern

  65. Jaywalker sock pat in pink…
    Happy Birthday!

  66. ok, i think that you wanted to change it up a bit and go back to the toe up socks you were working on..
“It’s a toe up sock – STR – Pebble Beach colorway – old put up” from this post:
    http://www.januaryone.com/archives/2006/08/the_miseducation.php
that’s my guess and i’m probably wrong but i’m sticking with it! 🙂

  67. You knit a lotta single socks, lady, but I’m betting that for A. cold january days to come, B. birthday-inspired nostalgia, and C. mid-holiday need for nearly mindless, concentration-free work, you’re knitting a mate to the purply knee sock from September in Koigu P214 and (first-bought sock yarn) 1160.

  68. Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs
And I’m in love with STR!!!
    Happy Birthday!

  69. Knee Highs in Sock Hop yarn in blue colorway (american pie??) that you were spinning— featured in August (mid-august— the 15th??)
    🙂 Kate
PS_ G and you totally deserve a colorway! I love that they complement each other!

  70. Happy birthday and congratulations for two beautiful colorways!
My guess is jaywalker in the STR Hot Flash colorway!
    Have a wonderful birthday!

  71. I love how you use your birthday as an excuse to give to others. Helps make the day better for everyone, ya know 🙂
I’m gonna throw caution ot the wind, go against my gut, and guess the Embossed leaves socks. Here’s hoping…

  72. My guess is Jaywalkers, STR Lightweight in Hot Flash. Happy birthday!

  73. Embossed Leaves in Koigu

  74. I’m going to say the Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs (knit on #1 Addis, I think). Hope the socks go well!

  75. Seriously…you have the best prizes! Love those colors. I’m guessing the January Socks in STR spinel.

  76. I’m most likely wrong, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say the Walking on Sunshine Trekking socks (color 38), in plain st st. I think they’re from 2005. Did they get finished? Just curious.

  77. I’m guessing the koigu knee high in the 1160 colorway.
Congrats on the yarn in your honor! Happy birthday to us January babies (19th for me)

  78. I’ll go with the STR Hot Flash Jaywalkers. It’s all about the Jaywalkers!

  79. My guess is the Embossed Leaves in Koigu #P704.

  80. Embossed Leaves socks in Koigu?

  81. retro rib??? You finally got me out of lurking… I’ve been loving your blog, and especially your photos for more than a year now!

  82. I will also guess the STR Sunstone Pomatomus. At least, I would like to see a finished pair of those!
Happy birthday! Very cool colorways for you and G!

  83. My guess would have to be the STR Hot Flash Jaywalkers (or should I say Jaywalker). I’m planning on attempting my first jaywalker very soon jus tto see what all the hubbub’s about.
Thanks for commenting about my mojo but oddly enough, I’ve knit baby sweaters before that’s the not the problem. For some reason my fingers freeze up when it comes time to knit an adult sweater. I get all anxious and everything. I’m kinda weird that way. Oh well, I’m planning on facing my phobia very soon. Seems like I have a lot planned for 2007 huh?
Hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  84. No Way – – I have no idea what socks you are knitting – but we share the same birthday. I’m probably older (born 1954) but have no idea where those years went and hope I don’t look or act my age. (At least my daughter tells me so!)
Happy Birthday – thanks for your blog – – I much enjoy reading it and seeing your creativity. What would the world do without us Capricorns?

  85. I had a lot of fun looking at your sock collection! And I will go with the Pomatomus as well, in the STR Sunstone. Mostly because you liked knitting them so much.
I had done the Embossed Leaves Socks and was also unnsure about the pattern and the toe, but once I finished them, I fell in love, and my day is special when I’m wearing those socks.
Do you ever feel like your days are set by what socks you put on? Like, I’m in a Jaywalker mood today or something? Just wondering!
Have a wonderful birthday! What a great thing that Blue Moon has done here! Knitters rock!

  86. happy early birthday!!!
    my guess:
koigu socks, from an Ann Budd pattern…the one mentioned in the oct. 5, 2006 post

  87. The Poms are the first that come to mind -STR in a light orange. Beautiful colorways and love the little Soak packets. (I have yet to try-what’s your favorite fragrance?)

  88. I want to say your Pomatomus in STR Sunstone since I just started my own Pomatomus, but my official guess will be your Sock Hop knee highs in the American Pie colorway.

  89. I’ll guess with STR Jaywalkers in Hot Flash. That’s so cool you have your own colorways. I can’t get enough STR – good thing sock yarn does’t count on my yarn diet!

  90. I’m going to guess the Hot Flash STR Jaywalkers. Because it seems like you’re going for comfortable familiar knits right now, and nothing’s more comfortable and familiar than the Jaywalkers! (I made two pairs for Christmas myself.)
Congratulations on the GORGEOUS colourways! And happy pre-birthday!

  91. Hmmm I’m going to go with the Embossed Leaves socks, in Koigu #P704…

  92. Happy almost birthday!
My guess is the plain stockinette socksin the crow mountain farms heat wave colorway.
    Happy Knitting!

  93. Is it Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs?

  94. Delurking to guess the STR Hotflash Jaywalkers.
Thank you & Blue Moon for doing this. We lost a friend to skin cancer a few years ago, very much in the prime of his life. Please, everyone, get your moles checked! Every single year! Please!

  95. Did you ever finish the mate for the Walking on Sunshine socks? Even though I know you didn’t love that yarn, I’m thinking you’re walking on sunshine after G’s good news!

  96. I’m pretty sure all the sock possibilities have been covered, but I just had to delurk to say that those STR colors are gorgeous! If I don’t luck out in the random draw I’ll be sure to order them when they’re available.

  97. I’m thinking Embossed Leaves Socks in Koigu KPPPM #P704.

  98. My guess is Pomatomus, STR Sunstone.
Congrats on having such gorgeous yarn named for you and G 🙂

  99. Yikes! 97 comments already?
Gorgeous, gorgeous colors of yarn. Do give us (late arrivers) a *heads up* when STR are selling these colorways. What a lovely gesture on their part.

  100. Alright, I’ve gone through and tallied up the comments and then searched your archives. Basically, I’m doing research for this one.
First, I think there are more than 6 possible candidates. Either that or you’ve done some ripping you haven’t told us about…
But that aside, the commenters are fairly well split between the Pomatomus in Sunstone, the Sock Hop Knee Highs in American Pie, and the Hot Flash Jaywalkers. I think it’s a battle between the novelty of the Pomatomus, the current knee-high predisposition (plus you really seem to love that Sock Hop yarn!), and the comfort knitting of the trusty Jaywalkers.
My vote, however, breaking from the herd, is for the Walking on Sunshine Socks in Trekking XXL 38. Finishing this pair allows you to get some closure for the end of the year (the first one is over a year old), plus they’re simple mindless stockinette, which might help you find your knitting groove again post-Ariann. As an added bonus, if I’m right, I’m one of the first three to vote for it (my chance is gone for most of the others), provided that no one has commented while I’ve been typing this novel. And if I’m not, I still have a chance in the random draw!
Oh yeah, happy early birthday, too.

  101. (incidentally, I went through your entire archives, and could only find 5…)
I have no clue, but the tally as of yet on what other people think is:
Jaywalkeres in STR Hot Flash – 20
Knee Highs in Sock Hop American Pie – 12
Knee Highs in Purple Koigu – 9
    Embossed leaves in #P704 Koigu – 7
Toe Up socks in STR NameIForgot – 4
Generic Walking On Sunshine Socks – 3
I didn’t count the ones that were voted for that we haven’t actually seen on your feet.
Smart money is on the WOS since there’s only 2 of those so far. But The Hot Flash jaywalkers are pretty popular.
Honestly, don’t have a clue, I’ll be back in a few minutes when I’ve made up my mind

  102. I’m going to go with the Jaywalkers in STR Hotflash. When one is reaching for something to knit “between projects”, the comfort of STR and the tried and true Jaywalkers pattern is just the thing. Damn bloglines for being so late in updating its feeds so I’m late responding!

  103. STR Pomatomus in sandstone. Happy Birthday soon!

  104. Walking on Sunshine from 9/05 Trekking XXL Crazy Stripes in Color 38! You said you were casting on for the 2nd, but I never saw it???
The 1st one is a beautiful softly colored simple sock and I think it wants a mate badly!

  105. STR Sunstone Pomatomus.
    Happy Birthday early!!!

  106. I’m going to guess a knee sock…but that’s only because you inspired me to knit a pair of my own that I never blogged about. Happy Birthday.

  107. I’m going to go with your second Pomatomus in the STR Sunstone colorway, since I’m finishing a pair of Pomatomi myself (or trying to, anyway) before the end of the year.

  108. i’ll give it a shot! i guess hjs studio socks (knee high version) in Sock Hop American Pie… i hope i win those gorgeous colorways! happy birthday!

  109. I’m taking a stab in the dark and guessing the Pomatomus socks in STR Sunstone!

  110. I’ll guess the STR Hot Flash Jaywalkers.
    Have a wonderful birthday!

  111. I think it is the pomatomus knit in Koigu #P704.

  112. Sorry i meant to say the embossed leaves sock knit in Koigu #P704.

  113. I am going with Walking on Sunshine Socks in Trekking XXL #38. The name caught my eye when I was googling and I didn’t see where you have finished it.
Oh, and I am now addicted to weffriddles thanks to you. And I hate getting stuck on the michael jackson levels – that is just wrong.

  114. I’m guessing its a Jaywalker in Hot Flash. 🙂

  115. My guess is the hot flash jaywalker! Best wishes for a happy birthday!

  116. My guess is Embossed Leaves, Koigu colour # P704!

  117. My guess is the Socks That Rock, Pebble Beach colorway Toe-up Experiment Socks. Have a great birthday and WTG Blue Moon!

  118. I’m guessing STR Pomatomus in Sunstone too. (I just cast on Pomatomus so it seems right to guess that one!) That’s so cool you have yarn named after you! I WANT IT.

  119. Pomatomus STR in Sunstone as well! I just looked at them and they seem to brighten up any dreary wintery day!

  120. I’m guessing the Blue Heaven Sock Hop knee highs. Happy birthday, and happy New year, too!

  121. It’s the HJS Studio knee sock pattern (you customized it for your own socks). Purple Koigu knee highs in colors P214 and 1160. They sure are nice! Love your new STR shades.

  122. I am going to guess Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs in Midnight Hour. Love. love, love the colorways! thanks for letting me play!

  123. Jenny in Jersey says

Congradulations and Happy Birthday. I vote Jaywalker/STR/Hot Flash.

  124. here’s my guess…
    Key Biscayne Socks
    Nice Cabernet
    Koigu
    🙂

  125. I haven’t been reading your blog long enough, so I’m going to make a random guess: Jaywalkers in STR.

  126. I’m guessing STR pomatomous (SP?) in that gorgeous Sunstone color.

  127. I think it is the Koigu Yarn, P704 Embossed Leaves Socks from March 4, 2006.
That is my guess and I am stickin’ to it!

  128. ok, my guess is:
the koigu knee socks in 1160 and p214 (and i think you might have put elastic in the cuff to make them stay up.
mazal tov and happy new year!
    michal

  129. RachelBookman says

I’m going with Socks That Rock, Pomatomus, in Sunstone.
just started reading knitting blogs on Dec.23 and now I am spending more time reading than knitting, how is this good?

  130. My guess is the Pomatomus in the Sunstone! Have a very Happy Birthday! And, of course you had to put the new STR colors under our noses and tell us not to bother the BMFA gal about them! Waaaah….
    Leslie

  131. My guess is hot flash jaywalker socks with picot edge but it is pointless now because MILLIONS of people have already guessed that. CURSE YOU OFFICE MANAGER FOR LURKING NEAR MY OFFICE AND THWARTING MY PAINSTAKING RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS THEREBY DELAYING MY POST!! *throws head on desk and sobs*

  132. I have no idea on which sock! But I know whichever it is will turn out great.
I can say that I think that Blue Moon is donating to a wonderful cause and I will be waiting for the yarn to go on sale so I can buy a skein!

  133. aw shucks – I’ll go with the Pomatomus sox in STR Sunstone – why not?
and such a wonderful reason for having a contest/giveaway – and here’s to LIFE and HEALTH for all in James Bond year (007, get it? hahaha)
    mhv

  134. my first thought on this is what i’m going with…jaywalkers in prove it all night STR
i’m crossing my fingers! and toes! and needles!
    happy happy birthday.

  135. STR, HotFlash, Jaywalker. And Happy Birthday a few days early!

  136. I think you are making the mate to your Sock Hop American Pie kneehighs, using the “shaping knee sock” pattern from hjsstudio. I must say, your beautiful kneehighs have inspired me. I need some red kneehighs to go with 2 different skirts that I no longer wear because now I will only wear hand-knit socks. If I begin doing kneehighs, then a whole new genre will open up to me! Thanks for the inspiration, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  137. Hmmmm, I know I’m wrong but my guess is the I believe in Magic Sock Hop Socks that protected you from getting a ticket 🙂

  138. Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs is my guess!

  139. stephanieayn says

i’m going to go with the STR Hot Flash Jaywalkers.
(Although I’m terrible with second guessing myself, I wont tell you what my first instinct was cause omg those will be the ones!)
T minus 3 and counting – happy early bday!
    s.

  140. Knee highs in the American Pie colorway.
    Happy Birthday!

  141. Jaywalker in STR Panzanite
    And Happy Birthday.
    Celebrate! You deserve it!

  142. Not sure if you finished these or not, but my guess is: Walking on Sunshine socks, Knitting XXL Crazy Stripes in Color 38. 🙂

  143. VERY cool STR colorways!!! I can hardly wait until they are available. Sooooo, my guess is Sock Hop knee sock in Socks That Rock – Midnight Hour colorway. Happy pre-Birthday!

  144. I am thinking the Elli-inspired Pomotomus in StR in Sunstone.
    Happy Birthday in advance!

  145. Well, I was going to guess the Pomatomus in STR Sunstone but since so many more people guessed that one, I will give my 2nd guess which is your Walking on Sunshine Socks in Trekking XXL Crazy Stripes in Color #38, which are very pretty by the way.

  146. My guess is the stockinette sock in Crown Mountain Yarns Sock Hop yarn, colorway “Heatwave”.

  147. Cara, you’re so cool … ’bout time you had a colourway named after you!!
I really have no idea but my guess is Koigu knee highs in 1160 & P124.

  148. My guess: Pomatomus in STR the yellow colorway (sunstone?)

  149. I can’t possibly guess, but I just wanted to say it’s great to see you so enthusiastic again and so full of exclamation points.
Happy Birthday, and rock those socks!

  150. Well, I’m guessing the toe up socks from August in the STR Pebble Beach colorway with the “perfected” heel!
Thanks for the invitation to the “birthday party”!

  151. I’m guessing it’s the Embossed Leaf socks in Koigu. Saw the first one but never saw the pair done.
Wishing you a Happy Birthday and a Happy, HEALTHY 2007 for you and Georgie.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful blog with us. Still blogless here, but you never know what ’07 will bring.
    XOXOXOX
    Maria

  152. I will guess STR Pomatomus.
Also the yarn looks wonderful, can’t wait for January 1!

  153. Well I’ve searched back over your archives (btw I love the photo of you in fatigues and the story to go with it) and my guess will have to be the Toe Up sock pattern (with Deb’s suggestion of a heel best described by the Simple Toe Up Sox on 2 Circular Needles)in the STR colorway Pebble Beach.
STR in your own colorway, how cool is that! Happy Birthday!

  154. I’m going with the Sock Hop kneehighs in that red/black colorway that I adore and can never seem to get my hands on. Unless you already finished those? Ugh, I’m guessing wildly here.

  155. bubbebobbie says

you were obsessed with jaywalkers this year! you cant have finished all of them can you???? i must suck at knitting if you did! i think you had to finish them so i guess:

You’re knitting the toe-up STR Pebble Beach sock.

  162. Cara, very happy birthday!!! My guess is Koigu Knee Socks in colors 1160 and P214. As I am from Brazil, Ill be glad to pay the shipping costs (if I won, of course!)

  163. Happy, happy birthday!! Already so many guesses for the contest, but here’s mine –
    Sock Hop Knee Highs
Sock Hop Yarn in American Pie Colorway.

  164. I’m guessing STR Hotflash Jaywalkers, simply because of your enthusiasm at the time of finishing the first.

  165. Socks That Rock – American Pie
the HJS Studio Shaping Knee Socks pattern that you love
    Happy Birthday!

  166. Yikes! With 165 responses already, I know I am not going to win that yarn….damn (LOL), but one of these days, I really want to give the STR a try :-)!!

  167. I’m sure you have 6 winners by now 😉
I’m totally impressed on having colorways named for you and G. Too cool! And supporting a worthy cause to boot. Blue Moon and January One rock. Happy bday, 3 days early.

  168. Pomatomus socks in STR Olivenite(?) colorway (it’s yellow. I have some too from Rhinebeck).
    Happy Birthday in advance!

    Happy Birthday to you!

  171. Oops- the colors I meant were Hot Flash and Lover’s Leap. Yikes.

  172. Sock Hop in American Pie?????

  173. I’m a dope, I just re-read this and made a guess earlier for a sock that didn’t even have a mate. Well at least I’m in the running for a random winner (fingers crossed).

  174. OK, I’m choosing Sock Hop, American Pie knee hi-s.
They’ve got a good beat and you can dance in ’em.

  175. Embossed leaves IK Winter o6 in Koigu #P704.
On 2 Addi circs started with US #2s
didn’t fit well around the heel– could they end up as gifts?????

  176. blog linkage;)

  177. 5elementknitr says

I’m going with STR Sunstone Potamus. My high school sweetheart was the first baby of the year in 1969 (in America). I love birthdays! I still want to send you a present! (I donated to the charity of your choice already!)

  178. I’m going to guess the Hot Flash jaywalkers.

  179. I’m going with the Koigu #P704 Embossed Leaves socks since they’ve been around a while.

  180. I say it’s the purpley Koigu Knee-highs.

  181. I’m thinking the STR Jaywalkers! And I totally special ordered the Sunstone STR just because I saw it on your blog! Congrats on the special colorways! Someday I hope for a brown and green STR Yarnbeans colorway!

  182. My guess is the Toe Up sox from Aug 0g in STR Pebble Beach colorway.

  183. My guess is the Jaywalkers in STR Hot flash!

  184. I have no idea about the sock but just wanted to wish you a happy day and best wishes for 2007!

  185. I’m going to go with Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs.
    Happy Birthday in advance!

  186. CONGRATULATIONS on getting a STR colorway in your name – how exciting is that?
I, too have to guess Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs – just cos I’m dying to see them finished, such pretty colors.

  187. What a wonderful new year to knit more socks… Just like you, I knit one Pomatomus and one Jaywalker and have not finished the mates to either socks. Clearly both will receive lovely mates in the new year— although the pomatomus will be first.
    My guess:
    STR sunstone Pomatomus socks.

  188. I’m guessing a return to a comfortable, satisfying classic: Jaywalkers in STR Hot Flash.

  189. Happy Almost Birthday! Let’s hope 2007 is fantastic for you and your husband!
My guess for your sock is the purple Koigu (colorway P214) knee sock!
It’s a tricky question for sure — can’t wait to see what the “winning” sock is!

  190. I think that there is only one choice for a birthday sock: Jaywalkers in STR Hot Flash!!

  191. I am going to guess the Socks that Rock Pomatomus (Sunstone colourway). And those two new colors? Gorgeous! Happy Birthday!

  192. I’m going with the STR Sunstone Pomotami, but all of your beauties are inspirational!

  193. De-lurking to wish you a happy new year and a lovely birthday!

  194. I’m guessing Jaywalkers from Socks That Rock yarn in Hot Flash. Happy B-D!

  195. this seems to be a popular guess, but I’ll go for it anyway. the str pomatomus in sunstone. That’s some pretty yarn!

  196. I like the January One colorway! Is it Embossed Leaves using Koigu P704 (leafy color)?

  197. Happy (early!) bd 🙂 I’m thinking American Pie kneehighs in Sock Hop (the ones you spun extra yarn for)…

  198. Sock Hop Yarns. From Crown Mountain Farms. Colourway is Heatwave.
    How’s that?

  199. Amanda in GA says

Pomatomus in STR Sunstone. Happy Birthday to you a few days early!

  200. I’m going with Jaywalkers. Color, etc., I don’t know.

  201. I have to be honest – with nearly 200+ comments, I don’t think I could come up with a sock that hasn’t already been mentioned! I first thought of the American Pie Sock Hop knee highs – I did love those colors…
(and the finished pair you just crossed off of the WIP list might have been the inspiration?)

  202. Knee high socks, sock hop yarn in American Pie colorway!
I love your blog.. have a GREAT Birthday!

  203. I think it’s your Koigu knee sock in purple in colorway P214. I try to keep up to date and I can’t recall ever seeing a second one to this one. I also really want to knit some knee highs so this one is my guess.

  204. First and foremost HAPPY BIRTHDAY in advance! Now to my guess, I think it will be the Koigu knee socks that uses the 1160 colorway from your very first sock and also the P214 colorway that you blogged about on 9/13.
Just ordered some Soak this morning from Spritely Goods! Can’t wait to soak some handknit socks!

  205. Happy Birthday and congrats on having two beautiful colorways named after your hubby and yourself.
My guess is Walking on Sunshine socks.

  206. No clue… but Sock Hop American Pie Knee Highs seems to be a popular choice so I’ll go with that!

  207. The knee highs in Sock Hop American Pie. (because I want to be like everyone else. i also think they’re very pretty.)

  208. Happy Birthday! I lurk while at work but am off for the rest of the year & won’t be here to wish you many happy returns on your special day.

  209. i’m going to guess it’s the IK embossed leaf socks that you’d worked on in koigu.
    happy new year!

  210. Congrats on the new STR!
Hmmm, is it possibly the Koigu knee socks that you started working on in September (this year)? (The beautiful purple ones in P214.)

  211. Happy birthday! I guess STR Pomatomus in Sunstone.

  212. I’m thinking that the Jaywalkers in Socks That Rock, colorway: Hot Flash would be in your favorite pattern and yarn, and would provide that last pair to close off the year!
Have a great birthday. My Dad’s birthday is December 31st!

  213. pattern : knee high socks
yarn: sock hop, plus your handspun for the heels and toes
colorway: American Pie AND the special, one of a kind, not to be repeated vivid blue done just for you, birthday girl 🙂
Happy happy birthday ! There is much to celebrate this year !

  214. Well, I’m glad that I’m sitting here under 5 ft of snow and nowhere I can go because this sure takes some investigating.
I’ve narrowed it down to three: Embossed Leaves in Koigu P704; STR Pebble Beach; Koigu Knee Sock in Colors #1160 and P214. These are the three that I saw as a finished sock (not just progress). although it seems to easy, I am going with the September Koigu Knee Sock. Looking back in your archives, I have really enjoyed re-reading posts and looking at all your wonderful pictures! Happy early Birthday!

  215. Kelsey Sargent says

Happy Birthday! I’m guessing knee highs in Sock Hop American Pie, because i think they’re pretty.

  216. Beautiful yarns named after the both of you! Congrats!
I would say it’s the January Sock (pattern from the Pattern-a-day Calendar) in STR Spinel. I’m probably totally wrong, but there ya go!
I forgot my own father’s birthday today, so I wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY early, because I’m sure, since I can’t remember the birthday of the man who is partly responsible for my existence, I probably won’t remember yours, no matter how cool I think your blog is! 🙂

  217. My guess is the Koigu knee highs, purple color P214. I would love to see your Pomatomus sunstones completed though–they are beautiful! But I’m sticking with my theory that you are on a knee high sock kick!
Have a great birthday celebration!! Happy 2007 too.

  218. If it is not the Pomotamus socks (Sunstone Socks that Rock), it should be! I love my pomotamus socks 🙂

  219. Such great colors – I’m signed up for the sock club so maybe they’ll grace us with one of y’alls fabulous colors.
I’m guessing Socks That Rock Lightweight Pomatomus in the Sunstone colorway because I love it for a wintery project BUT I never could find a picture of it on your foot so I’m probably wrong (as well as REALLY late getting in the game!)

  220. Happy Birthday! Happy New Year!! And congratulations on the fabby eponymous STR colorways!!!
As for your current sock… er, dunno. I’m not entirely sure how many UFO socks *I* have, so for sure I’m not tracking anyone else’s. I’m guessing Koigu knee high in 1160 and P214.
Thanks for a wonderful fiber-y year (Spin-Out was my first time spinning in public) and for a great way to ring out the old year, ring in the new!

  221. Okay well I am going to guess the maid in the kitchen with the typewriter oh wait sorry. Socks That Rock Lightweight Pomatomus in the Sunstone colorway

  222. First of all Happy Early Birthday. May it be a wonderful year for you.
As for the pattern I think that it will be The Pomatopus sock knit in STR-Sunstone lightweight.
But whatever it is I hope that you have fun knitting it!!!
    Enjoy your special day!

  223. Well, glad things are better for you know now-a-days.
How about we see those purple knee high koigu’s?

  224. Happy Birthday!!
I’m voting for Sock Hop Socks because they are magic socks and they might be magic for me 🙂

  225. Happy birthday! My guess is the Retro rib socks in Koigu 2151. I think they are beautiful!

  226. Jaywalkers:Socks That Rock yarn: Hot Flash
Happy Birthday!! C’mon random drawing. 🙂

  227. My guess is Hot Flash STR Jaywalkers. Thanks!

  228. I’m going to say the Embossed Leaves Socks in Koigu (#P704) only because I just finished my own pair. They flew off my needles and I can’t imagine having one done and not finishing it’s mate!

  229. sunshine socks trekking xxl crazy stripes #38
Key Biscayne socks Koigue cabernet US3 Ann Budd’s TKHBoP
    Retro Ribs sock Koigu

  230. another vote for the pomatomus in StR sunstone… whaddya say? if only shipping from blue moon wasn’t so expensive to the UK… anyone kind enough to post me some yarn? 🙂

  231. First of all, Happy Birthday, sweetie!! I’m guessing the Embossed Leaves in Koigu.

  232. Darn. I don’t have a lousy stinkin’ CLUE as to what sock you are knitting but PLEASE HAVE THE HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!

  233. Happy Happy Birthday!
I’m going to guess the Sunstone Socks That Rock Pomatomus pattern. Those socks, along with all of your others, are just gorgeous, but that’s my choice! 🙂

  234. Priorities first. Happy Birthday. Hope it is a good one. Secondly, a random guess. Pomotomus in STR Sunstone? Throw that in the hat?

  235. I’ll guess …. um……Jaywalker? Only cuz once I figured out the RIGHT way to do the double decrease, I love the pattern! On pair #3 right now out of Yarn Pirate.

  236. Lynn in Virginia says

I’m guessing the camel toe sock, mostly because it made me laugh so hard.

  237. Crazy! Look at all these comments! Firstly, hoppy birdies, two ewes! (I know, it’s not original, but I think it’s cute so I’m going to keep saying it.) Secondly, anytime you want caffeine-free soda, you let me know. I live in Utah I can supply you, baby. (We’re talking caffeine-free versions of everything…) And finally, I’ll say a Jaywalker Sock Hop in Heatwave.

  238. I’ve been lurking for quite a while, but my lust for those yarns has drawn me out of the shadows! My guess is the Pomatomus socks in the STR Sunstone colorway. And while I’m posting I want to thank you for writing so candidly about your thoughts and experiences this last year – it’s been very inspirational to read.

  239. I’m guessing the Jaywalkers in STR Hot Flash, since you knit so many of them this year. 🙂
    Happy Birthday!

  240. Socks that Rock..
    Hot Flash..
    Jaywalkers..

  241. Several days late and dollars short…i am going to guess that you are working on the mate for the handpainted purple koigu knee hights (you have just finished a similar pair so have all the tweaks in mind).
I am going to guess : Shaping knees socks from Holly Shaltz (not what you used for the mate, but it slips) in koigu 214/1160.
Happy birthday for tomorrow. Round these parts of north England today is the day when grandparents tell of seeing a man with as many noses as days in the year (leaving many grandchildren scarred at the thought of 365 noses on some poor bloke)
