Alive and (Sort of) Well

Sorry for the radio silence, yet again. This life thing is really annoying.

Turns out, Dr. Internet was right about the opthalmic migraines. The retina specialist told me my eyes were completely fine and it was a migraine. I’ve had it a couple more times now, but it obviously hasn’t freaked me out nearly as much. Just really annoying. That first one was REALLY scary though!

Rhinebeck was lots of fun. I didn’t bring a camera and even the camera on my phone was broken, so I can’t show you proof that I was there, but I was. I didn’t really buy much and we didn’t make it to the fair on Sunday, opting instead for some family time in the pool at the hotel before the rains came. We had a good time though for sure and I was so glad to see some familiar faces. It seems like a lifetime ago that Rhinebeck was the center of the universe – blasphemy I know – but it doesn’t feel like that anymore.

I haven’t been feeling very well lately and I’m hoping it passes soon, and Meli seems to have caught something as well. I do have some super cute pictures of her but I don’t have them on this computer so I’ll have to post them later. Hopefully tomorrow.

The biggest of big news is that WE SOLD OUR APARTMENT! Closed and everything. Done. Finito. And not a moment too soon. I can’t tell you what a relief this is and what a difficult sale it was. Our lawyer advised at least three times to back out because the buyers were so diffiicult, but when you’re desperate, what are you going to do? It’s DONE.

Anyway – life in the suburbs is boring (well – not for me – but to talk about.) I’m not even knitting these days. Seems I don’t like to knit when I feel sick. Go figure – just when you need some comfort in your life the comfort makes you feel worse.

I just wanted to check in and say I’m alive. One of these days I’m going to get back in the swing of this here blog. Or at least I can dream. Hope you’re all well!

  1. I hope you and Meli feel better soon.
I get sensory migraines with face and arm numbness. The first one was really scary. They don’t come very often and aren’t really painful.
I hope you find a good way to deal with yours.

  2. I hope you and Meli are feeling much better very soon … it was great to see you at Rhinebeck.
Has your doctor suggested medication for the migraines? My DH and oldest son both get them, and there are meds available that will really cut the severity. If you’re going to have them on anything like a regular business, you might want to check it out.

  3. Mwah!! I’ve been thinking of you. So happy to hear about the sale. I hope you feel better soon.

  4. Congrats on the apt. sale! Sorry I missed you at Rhinebeck! Sucks about the headaches. I have chronic daily headaches…2 years now. Blargh.
Give Meli a hug for me!

  5. WAHOO FOR SELLING THE APARTMENT! That must be super-relieving.
Hope you guys feel better soon, especially so we can see more pictures of your darling little girl. She’s getting so big!

  6. Great news!! It’s so good to hear from you. Take care of yourself.

  7. Congrats on the sale! I also get ophthalmic migraines and find they are usually triggered by exposure to glare or food sensitivities. The biggest culprit for me is aspartame.

  8. Glad to know all are well! Congrats on the apartment sale. I can’t imagine the relief that has to be! Will keep you all in my thoughts! Get well soon!!

  9. HEY! CONGRATS ON THE APT! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Also, hope you and Meli feel better soon 🙂

  10. I’m a long-time migraine sufferer, though I mostly stopped having them after the kids were born. I still get a couple per year, but nothing like what I used to. They’re no fun, but there are some effective treatments out there in both western and eastern medicine. I hope you and Meli feel better soon! Mazel tov on selling your apartment. That has to be a huge relief. Are you going to either of the MSG shows this weekend? We’re going on Saturday night!

  11. Yay! On selling ur place! I’m glad all is well in the burbs. Hope you feel better soon. And I suffer from migraines too. Monavie (.com) works for me. I use the active one. Sorry, didn’t mean to sound like a sales pitch…Can’t wait to see more pics.

  12. Congrats on selling the apartment. I am sure it was difficult to forge on with tough buyers, but I bet it is a relief to be done with it. Hope you and Meli are 100% soon.

  13. I’m glad the stress of the apt is gone. What a load that must have been. And yes, suburban life can be dull but dull is vastly underrated! What’s that Chinese curse, “may you live in interesting times”?

  14. Eileen in North Carolina says

    re: opthalmalic thingy.
I had the same exact thing happen! I thought my retinas were detaching, or something equally awful — but there was no pain, just that halo effect. And because I was teaching high school English at the time and the aura was on a kid in the back row, I knew I wasn’t seeing angels in my classroom. :o) Now they happen only once in a while.

  15. Woot! on the sale of the apt!!! Maybe now my house will sell as well since the housing gods are finished with you. 😉 Don’t worry about the silence…it seems to be catching…kind of the h1n1 of the blogosphere.

  16. Feel better soon! and Congrats on the Closing of the Apartment!

  17. Nice to hear from you! Since you’ve been gone we’ve had a new grandchild & I’m trying to finish a mitered square blanket. I think of you every time I work on it which is nearly every day (I’m on the borders now). Thank you for your madness!

  18. YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! I am really glad you sold the apartment. I hope you and yours feel better so that you can enjoy it!

  19. Just wanted to let you know I’ve been thinking about you. I’ve been the same with both life and my blog, no time or desire to devote the little spare time to it all. Congrats on your apartment and I hope you’re feeling better!!
    your friend in Germany,
    Kimberly

  20. I also had and opthamalic migraine for the first time ever. I had never heard of it!
Yes, it was one of the most scariest things I ever experienced. I seriously thought I was going blind or having a stroke. I was under extreme stress at the time and taking high doses of hormones to regulate a medical issue.
Glad to hear you are OK.

  21. Thinking of you…. that’s great news about the apartment!

  22. Hope you both are feeling better soon. Congrats on the apartment! This knitting thing? Comes and goes. It will be there when you want it. Truly wonderful to see you and see how that beautiful daughter of yours is growing up.

  23. Wow, thanks for posting about the opthamalic migraine. Just two weeks ago I had the exact same thing happen. A few years back I’d seen an opthamologist for the flashing lights thing (like the flashing lights around a store window) and he said it was a strain on the retina–like a thinning around the edges. Nothing happened again after that until now–but now it was a little different. Blind spots are scary!

  24. I wish that I had gotten to see you at Rhinebeck this year. Saturday it was crazy busy and Sunday, as you know, it was rainy and rather cold.
Maybe next year the weather will be outstandingly beautiful again…looking forward to it!
    Please feel better….Meli too!
Understandable that you would feel stressed with all that you and your family have going on right now. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way!
